    Archbishop Desmond Tutu demonstrated an abiding support for the Palestinian people against the apartheid regime in Israel. He was one of the first supporters of the BDS movement, boycotting, divesting and sanctioning Israel. He was deeply critical of the actions of countries like Germany which appease Israel and allow the grave human rights abuses to continue against the Palestinian people.

  • @ArnoSnyman007
    @ArnoSnyman007 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    A great man has fallen.
    Just as much as he was fighting Apartheid, he was also critical of the direction the ANC took the country in 2013, when he scolded the ANC for their poor job in countering inequality, violence, and corruption. He was demonised by the ANC for that stance he had. He was even critical about how the ANC handled Mandela's funeral memorials, stating that they gave too much prominence to the ANC and marginalised Afrikaners, commenting that Mandela would have been appalled.
    Not even to mention how he was a voice for any injustice not just in South Africa, but abroad as well. This included his support for the LGBTQ community as his daughter married another woman, which was then still a big taboo.
    He never lost his integrity, no matter the skin color of the perpetrator. It is true that he never lost his sense of humor.

    The death of Desmond Tutu means there is one less great and wonderful man in the world, a world which is so desperately short of them. He campaigned not only against apartheid and racism but also wrongs perpetrated by the post-apartheid government in South Africa, like corruption, and other African governments, notably Robert Mugabe’s in Zimbabwe. He was consistent in opposing any violations of human rights anywhere. Desmond Tutu was certainly one of the main contributors to ensuring the end of apartheid was non violent and peaceful. It will be up to people like Desmond Tutu to ensure South Africa remains stable and peaceful, though it certainly has its share of problems. He will be remembered for doing his bit to try to solve those problems. May he Rest In Peace, a peaceful rest that he certainly earned and he will be missed, not only in South Africa but many other countries too.
