Thanks for the great video. I’m absolutely disappointed at how bad such an expensive drone is in terms of range. Drones costing a tiny fraction can fly way farther without issues!
Are you sure that cell tower you are flying towards doesnt have anything to do with the signal loss? you can clearly see it at 4:30 and it tops center of the screen.....
I had to ask - logic would say it would - but if you have done this test there before and no issues then what can one say..... could be just a on off thing that day, hopefully your other tests show it does at least as good as that mavic..... I wonder if the fact its sending two video steams that they use a more narrow band for each video stream and thus a source of issues? or I know that when I use point2point radio's if we widen the band it picks up more interference and maybe the I2 uses a wider band and this picks up more interference? Just a guess on my part base don how I have seen radio towers we use for point2point connections for things like Data/Internet... either way, got to know it holds up next to a tower like that!
Drone_Video That tower is behind a rural volunteer fire station, it's not a cell tower. I've noticed signal issues with the I2 at other locations where I don't have problems with my other drones. But, I haven't done same day flight tests between them, just been flying the I2 by itself. I'll take a couple of my other drones, such as the Mavic and P4, next time with the I2 to see how they compare.
Thats not encouraging to hear that... I look forward to more of your tests to confirm this radio setup is stable and maintains control . when using it, it should be resilient to interference, setting aside the range for now - I look forward to seeing your further investigation on this.
Hi there, I can confirm that inspire2 has weaker signal than the mavic. I've flew the inspire 2 in different locations, the furthest I can fly is 2.5km, which is kinda disappointing.
as others have mentioned, the further out you go, the higher you need to fly it. It's called slant range. The earth curves and the lower you fly, the more the range will be affected. Try flying up at or above 400ft when flying that far out.
Ide recommend the 4Hawk range extender kit in both the smaller and bigger range plate. Bumps range and connectivity much higher than stock so that disconnection with the aircraft doesn’t happen as often or easily
Maybe you are stuck on 5.8ghz ? Should switch to 2.4ghz auto. The 5.8 will have lower range as expected. My Mavic would get 3000 feet in a busy wifi area like a marina with a lot of nearby cell phones. But open Rural area should be clean and clear. Could be an early firmware issue as well just like the speed error. Love these tests and risking the inspire 2 for us. Looking forward to getting mine soon as she ships.
your in atti mode and flying with the wind, you can fly a huge amount of speed. if you are in GPS lock/sport mode then max speed is software limited.. however if you flip to Atti mode then its going to fly as fast as hardware lets it go.. 66mph + wind speed. i have a phantom 4 pro and a mavic pro i fly in wind storms and i reached over 100MPH a few times when GPS drops out when im flying with the wind....
This is an old post but I was pissed off with the range and fitted fpvlr kit with boosters and the range now becomes further than the batteries can go 7k no problem but wouldn't do it again, just good to know it can.
Nice video Tony , I do have a question I noticed that there were 2 screens open are one of those screen for a forward facing camera and does it come with the inspire 2 ?
Michael McGriff yes, the I2 comes with 2 cameras, but the forward camera is low resolution, doesn't get full screen and you can only control tilt, not pan. I do not fly with a second camera operator so the forward camera is useless to me
Prithvi Bhattacharya when it lost and regainef connection this happened, never noticed that before. you can take photo while videoing by using controller button, never tried it from app. I'll watch my app screen and see if this happens and if you can take picture while video, from app screen
Frank Kovacs I used the screen recorder that comes pre-installed on the Nvidia Shield tablet. There are several screen recorders in the Android app store, but ios is limited, but the ios Litchi app has a screen recorder
It went up to 85 mph I was like wtf? I’m guessing it’s a glitch with it showing Mph but actually being kph. Or maybe the wind? But that’s really strong winds
When the drone was going away from him, he was at 74 miles an hour plus or minus a few. On the way back he was over 90 miles per hour. He had a headwind on the way out and a tailwind on the way back.
I think I am going to have a chat with DJI cause I am only getting about 300m (@1000ft) then I loose signal completely and return to home kicks in I fly my Mavic and my Inspire 1 in the same place and never have signal issues.
Richard Bell I have flown in 4 different locations comparing the I2 with my other drones (I1, M100, P4, Mavic) and the new I2 is no where near the advertised range. My Mavic, at 1/4 the cost, has better range than the new I2. Let me know what dji says
Will do, and I agree, the mavic has unreal signal stability, my inspire 1 pro has very good range now but that is because I paid to have a range extender put on and it works great.
Hi, have you ever had a problem with the camera (x4s) not lining up with the nose or the FPV camera? I don't know if it was like this when I just got it or happened after I did an IMU calibration. Gimbal calibration did nothing. thanks if you can give me some advise.
You keep saying "head speed" when your talking about how fast it's going. I would just like to correct you on that, the H.S. next to the miles per hour actually stands for "Horizontal Speed" just like that V.S. stands for vertical speed. Just thought I'd tell you that.
Colin Woods Regardless of my complaint over its range issues, it is very fun to fly, very stable and fast. 99% of the time I will not need the range especially with the cost cincerns of the I2, I would rather fly one of my cheaper drones for range and not sweat so much if it was the I2
MiamiJato ya, I still love my Inspire 1s with boosted antennaes. But also like the I2, faster and longer battery life than I1. Soon the I2 will have dji boosted antenna system
I was hoping the dual antennas would be available for it soon, it might inspire me to get a I2, still waiting on that. That's one thing I love about the I2, it's really fast......
Man I’m telling you, that Mavic Pro is the best drone that’s everrrrrr been made. Absolutely nothing beats it!!! It’s crazy that their more expensive drone doesn’t even top it😂
I own both and I can tell you the Inspire 2 is light-years better, as it should be considering its price point. High detail images (such as trees) don't look like muddy mush on the inspire, while the mavic on the other hand 😦. Also, can't beat the option to change out lenses... AND dual piloting.
While it's an impressive range, it's also a bit pointless. By the time you get there you've enough battery to get back and no more. Pity there's no way to hook up 2 batteries so the drone can switch to the other when power gets low.
rizky maison I used the screen recorder that comes on the Nvidia Shield tablet. There are ios and Android screen recorders that work well on the app stores. I think the latest beta ios has a screen recorder
Man! DJI is every day more unbelievable for me...I2 costs 3 times more than a Mavic, and can't reach (not even close) the same range as a U$ 1.000-dollar drone...
Your flying to low! Make sure your facing the drone to! Also saw a tower in the picture, which could cause some problems! I think you can get better! I got my mavic set at 2.5 miles! No problems yet! I thought the Inspire was good for 3 miles? Stay safe...
Dave Hygrell New I2 specs show range at 4.3 miles, same as Mavic. I flew my Mavic to 17225 feet with good signal but turned around because of battery. My initial impression is that the I2 range is not as good as Mavic, nor my other drones with modded receivers. I was properly facing the I2, tried several different positions, nothing worked. I think there will be lots of modded controllers for the I2, which is a pity considering the price and compared to the Mavic.
Your experience proved my guess that OcuSync used in mavic is way better than lightbridge used in p4p and inspire 2. The reason why DJI still uses lightbridge is that OcuSync is a patented technology which DJI needs to pay a high price for, whereas lightbridge is their own.
Dave Hygrell I flew the I2 over 2 miles at location where I went over 17200 feet with Mavic, see video at th-cam.com/video/SMQ8XVd6A44/w-d-xo.html But the I2 has disappointing range compared to Mavic. For the money, the I2 should have better range. At this location where I2 only got about 7000 feet, Mavic got about 11000 feet
I2 is an awesome machine. It's designed primarily for film making. The range really isn't that important as you would want full visuals on the craft anyway. Despite the laws, would you really want $10000 worth of kit to fly away from you???
Kevin Timmons I agree, use the less expensive Mavic if you're flying far away. DJI is offering Tracktina and cell signal options for the I2, to improve the range, especially in high obstruction areas. But I keep my I2 close to home 99% of the time, but don't worry as much with my Mavic. It's disappointing, though, that the cheaper Mavic has better signal than the I2.
Hey Tony, same here. very disapointing range, can't get more than 3000 feet. Normal you would say because I live in Europe and we have less signal strength with the CEE standard.
TYTFan Sig In most cases Mavic"a signal is stronger and more reliable. I2 sometimes has just as much range but when signal goes its sudden. But the I2 can use a 4g signal for unlimited range when the software and 4g dongles are available. DJI is also developing a Tracktina long range antenna for the I2. But for the money Mavic is hard to beat.
ClientHuhn sorry, I thought you said food, looks like you edited it. I didn't know what you meant, and I guess I was hungry. I'll try to answer if you can explain what you mean by either food or feed. By the way, I've visited Austria many times and really like your country. I am a KTM fan and have toured the factory there.
shocking range for dual battery big dollar machine id expect at least 7-8km as my old p2 ,2.2.4ghz goes 5km out and back plenty videos on u tube other people doing it
jincuteguy The Inspire 2 has the capability to use 4g cell signal, using 4g dongle, instead of lightbridge wifi, which gives unlimited range where there is cell phone signal. There are a few companies experimenting with the 4g dongle and software, but I haven't seen anything available yet
So you like it when parts of your image are muddy mush? Especially trees, which 50% of the time you'll be flying over? Lolz. Maybe fly an inspire 2 and then come back with a comparison!

tony griffis I can not get my inspire 2 to fly at 90 miles per hour , the most it could get is 65mph. any tips on that ?
t
is 90.6mph legit or is it bust? What was the wind speed?
The moment you realize that the mini 2 can get easily 2300m
Thanks for the great video. I’m absolutely disappointed at how bad such an expensive drone is in terms of range. Drones costing a tiny fraction can fly way farther without issues!
My phantom 3 standard goes that far
Are you sure that cell tower you are flying towards doesnt have anything to do with the signal loss? you can clearly see it at 4:30 and it tops center of the screen.....
Drone_Video Don't think so, because I've flown past it several times without interference with my Mavic (stock), and modded Inspires, M100, and P4.
I had to ask - logic would say it would - but if you have done this test there before and no issues then what can one say..... could be just a on off thing that day, hopefully your other tests show it does at least as good as that mavic..... Nice range safe flight ignore the stupid drone police enforcement officers on inspire forums
as others have mentioned, the further out you go, the higher you need to fly it. It's called slant range. The earth curves and the lower you fly, the more the range will be affected. Try flying up at or above 400ft when flying that far out.
Illegal
I know with the Mavic, a bug in the dji app causes the speed to be shown in kph even when you select imperial
Nice range test buddy I got over 18,676ft with my pal inspire 2.
Ide recommend the 4Hawk range extender kit in both the smaller and bigger range plate. Bumps range and connectivity much higher than stock so that disconnection with the aircraft doesn’t happen as often or easily
Brother thats sharp!!! Might dave again?? I already have the phantom 3,,, bit this is cool,,,
at 5 minutes you see that tower to your right? Probably causing some of your issues.

Would love to see some different antennas tested maybe the reflectors and simpler ones.
The Autel EVO is better that an Inspire,.. who would have thought.
And how much did it cost??
whilst it is def below advertised range, why would you ever need to be that far away from a drone thats built for cinematography
Hello. Tell me, does LITCHI work without problems and failures when using the INSPIRE 2 quadcopter?
Hey you need the parabolic dishes there cheap and will double your range and the cell tower interferes as well i saw you was near
Make sure you have downloaded the dji go 4 app their is 2 different apps the dji go had the same problem with my phantom 4 pro
Craig Bradford Yes I now use Go4 app but no change in range, Mavic is still better. But I do like my I2 regardless.
tony griffis Wonder if there will be an update cause it's new. But anyway I enjoy your videos and I subbed :)
Craig Bradford Thanks
Nice video Tony , I do have a question I noticed that there were 2 screens open are one of those screen for a forward facing camera and does it come with the inspire 2 ?
Michael McGriff yes, the I2 comes with 2 cameras, but the forward camera is low resolution, doesn't get full screen and you can only control tilt, not pan. I do not fly with a second camera operator so the forward camera is useless to me
how did you get the video recording button and photo button at the same time at 5:48?
Prithvi Bhattacharya when it lost and regainef connection this happened, never noticed that before. you can take photo while videoing by using controller button, never tried it from app. I'll watch my app screen and see if this happens and if you can take picture while video, from app screen
Why would you set your ISO to 800 and your shutter at 1/2500 in the middle of the day?
Bobster986 wasn't using camera for video, used screen recorder, and what ever was set automatically was what I used.
Very nice video. What program do you use to record all the video shots of your on screen view? Thanks
Frank Kovacs I used the screen recorder that comes pre-installed on the Nvidia Shield tablet. There are several screen recorders in the Android app store, but ios is limited, but the ios Litchi app has a screen recorder
Thank you Tony!
ISO 800 at bright sunlight.. You sure know how to set that camera... Great shutter speed for video also..
did I just see 70mph?! I thought they limited the top speed?
It went up to 85 mph I was like wtf? I’m guessing it’s a glitch with it showing Mph but actually being kph. Or maybe the wind? But that’s really strong winds

I got 2.2 miles with mine over a mountain lake which is roughly half the 4.2 miles DJI claims it will do.
I really want to see flight times with differant cameras
Just a thought, were you streaming your video in 1080p or 720p because you will get more distance with your video stream set to 720p. Just a thought.
Richard Bell 720p. Also tried manual channel settings with stream set to maximum but the auto setting seems best under most circumstances
I think I am going to have a chat with DJI cause I am only getting about 300m (@1000ft) then I loose signal completely and return to home kicks in I fly my Mavic and my Inspire 1 in the same place and never have signal issues.

360 Mile High Tours never had that problem. Have you tried changing camera from follow to fpv mode?
Sending back to DJI. apparently it is a problem with the x4s. what do you use? Very dangerous to be off 5 degrees or even 1 degree.
You keep saying "head speed" when your talking about how fast it's going. I would just like to correct you on that, the H.S. next to the miles per hour actually stands for "Horizontal Speed" just like that V.S. stands for vertical speed. Just thought I'd tell you that.
Thanks, my heads not screwed on straight anyways
70mph ? 😳
This drone basically built for cinematic videos so they put not long range because people take closest shot in flm
That thing moves when you tell it to
Colin Woods Regardless of my complaint over its range issues, it is very fun to fly, very stable and fast. 99% of the time I will not need the range especially with the cost cincerns of the I2, I would rather fly one of my cheaper drones for range and not sweat so much if it was the I2
Your range should be much much better than that . Hope you antennas are positioned correctly
That's why I love my I1 v2, I got it boosted with amps on 2.4GHZ and get crazy range all the time.....
MiamiJato faster than the I1, but dji keeps slowing it up via firmware updates. Mine was lots faster on early firmware
sucks man, I would downgrade just for the speed of the I2, that's just me, lol....
MiamiJato but you can't downgrade from latest slow firmware for I2, to the earlier fast one
the cell phone tower might be keeping you from going farther. Should be able to go pretty dang far
Hi,
Maybe a stupid question but i can't find how to make appear the window of the fpv camera. Can u help me?
Cheers
Léonard Berner it should be in your Go4 app. Don't know your problem unless you're using old Go app or don't have the Inspire2
Man I’m telling you, that Mavic Pro is the best drone that’s everrrrrr been made. Absolutely nothing beats it!!! It’s crazy that their more expensive drone doesn’t even top it😂

Scenico Studio Does inspire have occusync? Because absolutely nothing beats occusync
@@theurbanartist775 ocusync is a great feature but I'd take a much cleaner image quality over it any day.
I love the Mavic pro which is my only drone and that baby is a beast
Have you tried it in 5.8ghz? I get amazing performance out of my phantom 4 pro when in 5.8 compared to 2.4, there is literally no interference in 5.8
While it's an impressive range, it's also a bit pointless. By the time you get there you've enough battery to get back and no more. Pity there's no way to hook up 2 batteries so the drone can switch to the other when power gets low.
U fly witout atti u Crazy
nice range! may i know what u used for screen record?? thank you
rizky maison I used the screen recorder that comes on the Nvidia Shield tablet. There are ios and Android screen recorders that work well on the app stores. I think the latest beta ios has a screen recorder
How did you record and show the actual DJI app screen video with all data?
Nick Lauck With the screen recorder that comes on the Nvidia Sheild
What tablet or monitor did you use for that drone??
I think it was a dji Crystal. I don't remember, I may have worn goggles
it is a nice test! tell me how to record the "DJI GO 4" screen .
hiro204 I used the screen recorder that comes on the Nvidia Shield tablet
thanks! I'll check it!
Bit rate effects distance greatly; lower much farther;
For this range test is this as standard or have you upgraded any thing
SOTK SHADOW all stock
Flying in atti mode? Does RTH work when flying in atti?
Yes
Does the Inspire 2 have Occusync or Lightbridge?
SCAR16s lightbridge, but does have 2.4 and 5.8 frequencies but still not as good as occusync range
Amazing video! Helpful. :D
Man! DJI is every day more unbelievable for me...I2 costs 3 times more than a Mavic, and can't reach (not even close) the same range as a U$ 1.000-dollar drone...

tony griffis you're flying to low if you had flown higher you could of easily went farther
Dave Hygrell I flew the I2 over 2 miles at location where I went over 17200 feet with Mavic, see video at
th-cam.com/video/SMQ8XVd6A44/w-d-xo.html
But the I2 has disappointing range compared to Mavic.
You know youre flying on atti dude
Wow, I would have expected better reception at different freq.. crazy!
Josh Hymer not much difference here, it might be different in other locations. 5.8 usually works best for me and it does put out more power per specs
Hey Tony,
same here. very disapointing range, can't get more than 3000 feet. Normal you would say because I live in Europe and we have less signal strength with the CEE standard.
DroneAD Service guess we'll have to wait on the 4g dongle setup to get good range
iso shutter and f auto mode?
Cuanto cuesta ese drone en usa? Saludos des de mexico
I use the hood of my car as a helipad for my mavic pro
What kind of car do you have Kim?
Chad Dawson Ford focus, but I wouldn't recommend it now though
good
ISO 800, 1/2500 sec...?

lol with no offensive u did the whole test wrong .. i have ph4 pro + and i fly it 6.4 km in 2.4ghz :P
right right right right right
I'm sure flying toward a cell tower has a lot to do with the sudden signal drop. Does Inspire 2 have Occusync 2.0?
NICE
O My fkn god i want that drone so bad...
Hugo Maxe Regardless of any range concerns, I really love the Inspire 2! Fast, stable, good camera, fun to fly
Max Flight time?!
xBLACKxOPSxSECRETSx yes, that's Inspire2 std
What is feed? (I'm from Austria)
ClientHuhn salad, medium rare rib eye, and baked potatoes
tony griffis haha...
ClientHuhn sorry, I thought you said food, looks like you edited it. I didn't know what you meant, and I guess I was hungry. I'll try to answer if you can explain what you mean by either food or feed. By the way, I've visited Austria many times and really like your country. I am a KTM fan and have toured the factory there.
tony griffis 1290 Duke??
You were going that fast because the wind was at your back
I got 4km with no iterruptions with my P3P... I flew home then cuz the battery
Philipp Walder I flew mine 3.5 km no problem
shocking range for dual battery big dollar machine id expect at least 7-8km as my old p2 ,2.2.4ghz goes 5km out and back plenty videos on u tube other people doing it
neil robertson Disappointung range but still very fun to fly. It is capable of 4g dongle for unlimited range which hopefully will be available soon
What the hell is 4g dongle for unlimited range? what do you mean?
jincuteguy The Inspire 2 has the capability to use 4g cell signal, using 4g dongle, instead of lightbridge wifi, which gives unlimited range where there is cell phone signal. There are a few companies experimenting with the 4g dongle and software, but I haven't seen anything available yet
Ok I know theirs no way this drone went 85mph+!
do claims of 4 miles will never happen
Better mavic in signal
Don't fly in sport mode it will eat up your battery faster. Anyway, good test.
I have a dji inspire 2
Your could have just said don't buy an inspire 2
ae4xo its good to show the results
2.4 km
I'd really like to know under what conditions did DJI record a range 7000m+ when flying this craft. LOL Lies?
i got 25,000ft easy
c'est a cause de gens comme vous que la législation devient dure
my mavic can go 4 miles
My Mavic and I2 can too, at the right place and on a good day, there and back
This is so hard to watch do u even know what ur doing?
That's what my wife said
Bye bye 10k drone hahhhhhaha
7km my ass
Mavic pro way better
So you like it when parts of your image are muddy mush? Especially trees, which 50% of the time you'll be flying over? Lolz. Maybe fly an inspire 2 and then come back with a comparison!
I love the mavic pro and none of my pics or videos are mushy and the range is far more better! And my mavic pro a beast in high winds
Apple is way better
