How To: Attach Java Moss To Rock

  • Welcome back to a simple DIY video on how to attach java moss to rock using super glue. The rock i am using in this project is a coral rock that weights roughly around 5 kg. I gave the rock a good rinse and soaked it in hot water for couple of hours to kill any parasites and germs. Then i dried the rock using microfiber cloth. Super glue that i have used to make a moss rock is just a generic brand that contains cyanoacrylate adhesive which is aquarium safe. I added some glue to the rock and sat moss on top. I repeated the process and attach moss at 4 different spots on the rock using glue. With time, moss will start growing in the aquarium and will cover the entire rock. I also put Anubias plant attached to a driftwood right next to moss rock in the aquarium.
    Half of the aquarium will be covered with aquatic plants (Java Moss Rock and Anubias on Driftwood) and other half will be empty and bare bottom. Which will make it easy for me to clean the water, siphon excess food and remove fish waste. It will be a good habitat for guppy fish that i am planning to put in the aquarium.
    Coral Rock: $20
    Java Moss: $10
    Anubias on Driftwood: $40

    That is so cool. Do you need to trim the moss regularly?

    • @Fishaholic
      @Fishaholic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey mate, it hasn't grown much yet. My tank is 52cm in height and I would like the moss to cover entire corner so fry can hide in there. Might take a while for it to grow and get to a stage when I would start trimming. Thank you for stopping by 😀

    Hi! Will fin rot meds like Kanaplex and Jungle Fungus Clear Fizz tabs kill Java moss and other aquatic plant?

    • @Fishaholic

      Hi, As far as i know they are both safe for planted aquariums as long as directions on the product are followed. It might kill algae growing on plants but plants should be safe. Appreciate your comment

      Hi Joey, sorry I have taken the rock out of tank and switched to using driftwood as it looks more natural compare to coral rock. If you want to see the growth of moss on driftwood then i have a video on my shrimp tank, i believe it's the 6th one in the uploads. It briefly shows when i added the driftwood with moss and how fast it grew in few weeks. Thank you for your comment and subscription.

    Can flourish super glue be used underwater and will it hurt fish that are in tank thanks

    • @Fishaholic
      @Fishaholic  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Danny, I haven't used flourish super glue but I believe it is not different to normal glue. Have a look at the content on the tube, if it contains cyanoacrylate then it is aquarium safe and won't hurt the fish. If excess amount is used then it will dry white and won't look good till it is covered with moss or plants. Appreciate your comment mate.

      Danny Walker don’t use glue , this may not be true but the mosses that I glued down using flourish died , I strongly suggest that you just use fishing line please as the mosses that I attached to rock using fishing lines are growing fine and still alive

      Hi SlimesDesigns, there are certain super glue that you can use in Aquariums. Some might say that they are safe for Aquarium use and some also may say that there is Cyanoacrylate in it, which also means it is safe for Aquarium use.
