  • 2011 mini came in with codes p0011 p0012 and will not go away.. swapped timing set , changed variable Timing solenoid from intake to exhaust and the codes will instantly pop back on, swapped cam position sensors and nothing changed, changed no return oil valve and it didn't change. I had checked the rectangle rings from the beginning but they were not snapped and seems fine but were the only thing I could think of being the issue after removing timing again I checked the caps and rubbed them on and noticed they were a bit wore out I called the dealer and had them ordered part number ( 11317587757) they are the same for intake and exhaust in total there's 4 of them. After installing them and putting everything back together the codes went away and have not come back. I hope this is helpful if you have any questions please feel free to ask.

Thank you very much for this video! My 2007 mini cooper had similar problems. I took my car to Motorwerks Mini Dealership because of this problem and had to part with $225 for diagnostics but they couldn’t pin point what was wrong unless I pay more for them to dig deeper. I swapped the intake vvt selenoid for the exhaust one and then bought a new one and my issues were resolved!

The good news is you are now an expert at taking it apart. Interesting how you went from hardest to easiest back to very hard to repair.

Do not open all caps on the inlet cam since it might come flying off as it did in my case, because of the springs. Make sure you wear eye protection if you do this!

Hey thanks for VID! I have the same codes and just pulled my cam caps to find HUGE grooves worn in them by the cam seal (retaining ring). Did you have grooves worn in yours?

  • @stefanmirelstanache1266

Hi, can you please 🙏 tell me how can I get this "seal rings" off and put the new ones on, are they like... kind of a rubber ring, flexible? I'm asking because I saw them online and they look like one piece, so... they must be flexible to be able to install them on the camshaft right?

Are those called retamber rings can't make out what you're calling them

I'm really glad that I saw this video as I'm about to try to solve p0011 by replacing the timing chain and vvt hub. I changed the solenoid and it didn't solve it. Mine doesn't have the variable valve lift though so I'm hoping it'll be easier to replace the rectangle rings on the intake cam.

Great video 👍 just to confirm the P0012 is the inlet vanos solenoid (one at the back of the engine). Got the same issue so was going to swap the solenoids over to see if it changed the error code. Trying the cheapest option first before paying for a garage to do any work.

Hi! Thanks for this video, really helpful. What did you need to torque the bolts back up to on the cam cover please?

Great video, I learned a lot from it. Have ever removed the lower intake camshaft, it is moved by the worm gear at the back of the engine. I'm wondering does it need to be in a certain position, or how is that camshaft timed up?

  • @ozrenprezime

Because I have problems when the car is cold, it shakes a bit. before starting the car, I remove the cable from the vvt solenoid on the exhaust side. I start the car normally without knocking and jumping and I can drive it normally, albeit with a little less power. I only have a p0013 from the fault, this is the vvt solenoid switch. Does the ventiltronic work then or

I have a malfunction p0014 the vti engine does not have turbo I changed the chain wheel and cleaned the solenoid and when I installed the electrovane with the battery it works normally but the acceleration is weak and the rpm goes down Is it possible that this loop makes this loop double the acceleration and go down in the rpm counter? I hope to help

That is just thesame problem with my mini too.. about how much would to fix that problem?!?!

Are those bolts you loosened on the camshaft to get to the rectangring torque to yield or did you reuse them?

When installing those cam phasers, can you install them which ever way on? So basicly, it doesnt matter in which position they are when installing? Thanks if you know the answer since youve done this before!!
