    Great video Larry. Don’t apologize for a long video. Most of us are actually interested in learning how to train our dog. Time doesn’t matter. Thank you for going above and beyond. I wish everyone had your heart to save the dogs. ❤️ God bless you!!

    Your ecollar book and youtube training saved my ferral rescue from a life of leash containment. After 2 years of unsuccessful daily long line training, I was still unable to trust her off leash, as soon as I unclipped her and she got a scent, she'd be gone. It took a few months of daily ecollar training to teach her the language, but now she's walked off leash every day and I rarely have to tap the collar to get her attention to come back, I just call or whistle. She's a much happier dog and walks are now a joy rather than a chore. Thank you so much.

    This video just came up in my feed as I've wanted to start e-c training with my 4 yr old blue heeler, who knows his basic commands but who can be dog reactive, who I would like to take to the park (never been to a dog park), etc off leash - and I want to train him right. I just watched the video you did 5 yrs ago with Sophia and this came up after. I kept stopping, backing up, listening again because I was taking notes and I will get your book, but this was so great for me- broken down step by step very simply. I knew lots of people growing up who used this collar to "train" their dogs and I was horrified, hence my reluctance to use this, but am very grateful for this instruction and for your love of dogs - and not just teaching dogs, but teaching people how to teach dogs. Thank you Larry!

    I became ill as my dog grew up, she is now almost 4. I am SO glad I learned to train her and use an ecollar as I can now recall her from my wheelchair, knowing I have back up if a deer or another dog gets her attention, I can walk her beside me in the chair without her pulling me on to the road, again knowing I have the ecollar as back up in an extreme situation. I still get shit for being "so cruel" but 1. The ecollar is not sore, it's similar to a tens unit that I use FOR pain relief and 2. It would be more cruel for her to always have to stay on a lead, or for her to pull me onto a road in my wheelchair and need to be given away or worse, killed because I was unable to stop her from pulling us onto the road. In the house I can also tap to have her come to me if I cannot use my voice loudly that day. It's a great tool and I'm glad you've been putting this information out there!

    Thank you Larry for your generosity. I’ve spent too much already of money I don’t have on a trainer that did not explain information as well as you did. After each session with her, I felt defeated and my confidence in my ability to train my dogs went down. You have given me not only easily digestible information but also confidence in what I’m doing. I am forever grateful.

    Been using e collar since my mal pup was 3 months old. I live in the countryside so I needed off leash quick. He would follow me around anyway from a pup but was running off to other dogs. 6 months old now and I honestly have never seen a dog so obedient in real life off leash, people call over all the time saying they wish their dog was this well behaved. I do like showing off with him tho.
    All our training we use e collar and he loves it, gets him hyped up and helps him understand when he is not in the correct positions/not doing the right thing. I honestly love it and wish everyone would use it, any dog. The bond is so much stronger with an e collar
    And he was super sensitive and reactive when a pup and feel the e collar has made him more confident and stronger

    I got an e-collar recently and I am so glad I came across your channel. I have been listening and watching Robert Cabral since I got my now 9-month-old Golden Retriever,. You both have a very similar way in regards to training and the respect you have for training and protecting dogs., but I think you have done a better job of explaining how to correctly use an e-collar. I think it would be a great interview of you two sitting around talking about your beliefs in dog training. Keep up the good work, and thanks for your content.

    I know i have commented before-You are so so amazing. You are honest, generous and your passion for these creatures is very evident. You are the single reason my 5 month old Labrador is a well trained dog. No professional trainer. I trained him from day1 , three times a day. I just bought your book today and watched all your videos. I have no doubt in my mind that i can accomplish e-collar training with just your book, mini-educator, your videos and a lot of dedication. Thanks you for everything.

    Hello Larry love the long videos 👍 I have a 4-year-old Doberman Pinscher I use a dogtra 1900s excellent e collar anyway thanks to all your videos I have a dog that always gets to run free in the field by my house I never have to worry about him taking off after other dogs in the distance I just tell him one time leave it that command has got to be one of the best like you said in one of your other videos. 95% of the time I do not even need to use the e-collar it's still on him sometimes I will let him out in front of the house to do his business there will be cats across the street he will be looking one time tell him leave it and that's all I need to tell him thanks to you and your videos I have a very happy dog that gets to run free for over an hour everyday again Larry thank you you're the best 👍🙏

Now other great trainers who also use the e collar , they also trained the same way you do, with one distinction ( you stress over and over) they don't, about how vital it is to introduce the E-collar in a positive way!! They do but it has to be stressed the way you do, because everyone is in such a ruched these days! Thank you!

    my 2 biggest issues if you have a suggestion are when our GSD goes crazy when people visit, jumps up even though i've tried what people have told me, knee them, or turn away or when i have her on leash, walk away from them... the other thing is she will bark if someone walks down with another dog or someone pulls in lane to drop something off etc... she barks and goes nuts.

Now I can take some knowledge and build it with my four year old rescue husky, I took in a month ago. I still don’t have solid leash pressure. I do have solid basic commands. But while I am waiting for the book, we will continue to practice.

People do not stop to see training from the dogs point of view and understanding. I think the best way i have heard it explained is to have someone teach you calculus but in a language you have never heard and using numbers you have never seen or can understand.

    Watched all of your videos and bought your very inexpensive book and taught my dog all by myself. She’s a beautiful 15lbs mini goldendoodle who loves her life and off leash hiking. Started when she was 9 months and started testing the waters about whether or not she wanted to listen. Now she is an awesome dog that I get compliments on all the time. She love people and other dogs, she still has plenty to work on but hey I’m not a professional trainer and I’m happy with where she’s at. And I did this all thanks to you. Sure I made a lot of mistakes in the first week but we worked through it together. Thanks Larry you gave me the tools to have an awesome dog who gets to be a dog and love life.

    • @kellygoonan
      @kellygoonan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I watched the video and couldn't understand what he was calling these contact points. I'm going to ask e-collar technologies about them as I have one of their e-collars (ET 300), but they don't mention wing contact points anywhere. I just started using the ET 300 with a trainer two months ago for my now 10 month old lab. I'm currently using their short titanium contact points because my pup has a metal allergy. I'm wondering if I should switch to longer contact points or E-collar Technologies makes contact points specifically for thick fur. What exactly are wing contact points?

      @@kellygoonan did u get an answer?

    • @kellygoonan
      @kellygoonan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not from this string, but did get answers from e-collar technologies. I ended up just playing around with different contact points. The long thick fur ones were the most effective, but not available in titanium, so they caused skin irritations for my pup. I ended up switching back to the long titanium contact points and with consistent practice (and him maturing as he aged; he's just over 17 months now), he's responding well/consistently to them now.

    I've been around dog training for awhile and the two things I've noticed about the anti e-collar crowd are this: if they can vilify e-collars enough they automatically reduce the chances of people going to a trainer who uses them, so it means more business for the trainers doing the vilifying. Second, this idea that the e-collar is "shock collar training" exclusively is so blatantly stupid. No one training a dog, professionally or just as an owner, who knows anything is out there just constantly shocking their dog with these tools. What's hurting dogs is owners not treating them like animals or correcting bad behavior. There is so much misinformation and ignorance around dog training yet everyone thinks they're an "expert." Thank you for continually educating the clueless Larry.

Dog should all be trained and be able to have freedom offleash. And I can tell that my dog has been so much happy whenever I get the e collar out. He has been learning to know what is the right and unacceptable behaviours and best off all he deserves all the freedom he has. And I'm not a professional dog trainer :)

    Hi Larry, I know the video is 3 years old but I've only just viewed it in my attempts to research the correct use of an e-collar. Absolutely no need to apologise for a long video, the information is priceless and I very much appreciate the fact that you're willing to share your knowledge and experience. I have a beautiful 8-month old Bracco Italiano bitch that I want to use as a working dog. Having done a considerable amount of research into the breed before acquiring a puppy, I was somewhat aware that the breed can be stubborn, they have a high prey drive, they tend to be more of an all-round hunting dog than my previous GSP's and they can cover ground so quickly (understatement), but I wasn't really prepared for just how different the Bracco's can be. My sole purpose is to make sure that the dog has a wonderful life while she's with us, and to that end I want her to have 100% off-lead time whenever possible. The only issue I have with her is that she does not respond to recall when she has a distraction at distance (200 yds for example). Close recall and control (inside 30 yards), even with significant distractions (flushing pheasants etc.) is actually not too bad for a young dog and is very much work-in-progress. She knows Sit, Down, Place and Come very well when we're training in a controlled environment without distractions, so having seen your video explaining the positive methods of first conditioning the dog to known commands using a collar at minimum levels and then progressing gradually with increased distractions outdoors and off-property, I'm now more confident that I'll be able to extend the recall distance in time, without having to "zap" the dog with high levels of stimulation to get the required response, which is why I haven't already purchased a collar, as I had a complete misconception that e-collars are solely correction tools and not training tools. Can't wait to receive your book and get studying. Thanks again.

    I was on the fence about using an e-collar with my 6 month old South African Boerbel but this has made the world of difference and she is now happier on long walks off leash and responds so much better to commands. I’m going on Tuesday for ecollar training for my awesome 8 1/2 month old puppy. My past dogs did not need much training in terms of manners, greeting or coming when called. My dog actually had me in tears the other day. I firmly believe some dogs just need more help. He is 90 percent a wonderful dog. Looking forward for this tool to help 💗

    I'm so happy you have put out this little mini series. I have just been interested in getting an educator (I am looking at the micro educator for my slightly sensitive girl). I have seen a lot of videos but a lot are older. This complete, totally up to date info is extremely timely and helpful

    I'm putting Larry Krohn playlists on all the time now, because even if I heard a particular video before, there is usually something that is answered that I didn't know was a question I should have asked (myself) before.

    Hi Larry, you are right, it is very difficult, very frustrating for many people, myself included who are trying to find answers and help to train our dog the best we can. There are so many videos, links, websites etc... that say hey here is free training for this or that... so you watch a video for 10, 15, 20 minutes or more as they talk about everything your dog does that you want to correct, but don't tell you or show you how to correct it unless you pay for the actual instructions. I have an ecollar that i use with our German Shepard Athena who is 3 years old.... i tried honestly to look for help on how to use and train with it on so many sites and google pages it is not funny. I'm sad to say that i haven't always used it the way that you teach, but now that i have seen your videos, i will definitely start over again with her and train her the right way. Don't get me wrong, I didn't always zap her til she hurt or anything like that but i have increased it or had it a little higher than i should have, when i shouldn't have and I apologize to her and all you trainers for that. I just hope that as I start over she will react and learn in the right way.
    I have the Garmin Sport Pro collar, do you know if there are wing connectors that will fit this collar? I can't seem to find any that state they fit this one?
    Sincerely

    Been working with EC for years. Been watching videos from you and other reputable trainers. My question has always been WHEN to start training with it. WHAT dog tends to benefit the most.
    I know the mechanics and steps....
