Saint Sava, son of Stefan Nemanja founder of the sacred line Nemanjić rullers of Serbia from 11 to 14th century. He fled princ life at 17 and became a monk in Russian monastery on Mount Atos. He transcribed byzantine civil and church laws which were used not only in Serbia but whole slavic world, and was instrumental in creating Serbian orthodox experience and tradition. Since him almost every mideval ruller in later parts of their rule retreats in monastery to prepare for enternal life and support for church was unprecedented, resulting in thousands of serbian churches and monasteries truoughout the balkan region. We call and consider him the biggest and most important Serb and he is a patron of schools.
