    Make sure your Akita gets plenty of time doing it’s own thing roaming on nature walks using a flexi or off leash if it’s absolutely safe! Remember these are hunting dogs and need to get nature time, this will help them be more calm and focused in other places. Then when it comes time to be serious I find the halti lead is often necessary as it helps them focus more on you then what they see, hear, smell. This distinction between leashes I find helps the dog realize what’s expected of them in that situation. From a 14month old Akita owner:) merry Christmas or happy holidays everyone stay safe!

      What’s a flexi?

    • @kingliabus8324
      @kingliabus8324 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A flexi is a retractable leash. Any long leash will work as well. Keep in mind your dog may pull more with either because of the freedom it gives them!

    I stop walking my akita because he always drags me down he take off the leach and runs away for me to chase him, just when I about to catch him, he jumps over me. He has a big smile on his face when he does that to me. So my son and my daughter walk him and he doesn't drag them or tries to take off the leach and run away. He only does it with me. So I let him cry until my son comes home to take him for a walk. During the day he garbs his leach and put it on my feet, crying for a walk. I tell him no. When I take him outside in the backyard, he start to running all over the place, come to me and take away what I have in my hand and keeps running all over the place.

    I got rid of her collar a few months ago and only been using the harness for leash(lead) control. She's only 2. Be 3 at the end of September. The less exercise and outside time they get the crazier they get when they finally do get outside. And now that I'm older and more knowledgeable about canines I associate the behavior or excitement to a drug induced nose smelling euphoria fit. But overall she's a very obedient and intelligent young lady akita.

    All of a sudden, my dog does not like to walk anymore and it is very frustrating. The dog weighs over 100 pounds and pulls back. It's dangerous because they will refuse to walk at a crosswalk or near a busy street. Food or treats are not working either. He walked fine and for the past few days, it's just plain refusal. It's too the point where I can get injured. I want to find a better way to cooperate, but my dog does not want to walk. They did well for most of 1.5 years of life before refusing to walk.

    These videos are confusing and the words are repetitive. I get your trying to discipline the viewer to be an educated dog owner, but by the time I'm finishing the video , theres nothing that sticks hard.
    I suggest using bullet points , since you dont get straight to the point , then atleast we can skip all the excessive talking .

      Probably more just to keep people watching the video for view metrics, if they haven't got to the point within a minute or two its all just spoofery, I teach in another area and when I see guys going on long verbal detours, it shows a lack of experience. They're regurgitating theory or received wisdom to impress the student ...or themselves

    I prefer my Akita pulling me and its actually how I walk him. I have a Kong full-body harness and no matter how tight I make it if he falls behind me he understands he can jump up and pull back and it will take the harness off like I take a shirt off. He can get out or it ever single time first try and I think their loose skin plays a huge part in it. I use a retractable leash and let him run all around. I let him run wherever in front of me, then hold the button to stop the distance, and then reel him in like a fish. Once I reel him in next to me I pet him, remind him of what a good boy he is being, and let him run off into yards or bushes. Some people might not like the pulling but with my dog and knowing the breed I think I will do this with every Akita here on out.

    • @plsdi111
      @plsdi111 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can’t get why you do that, even though it’s not my business. When your dog doesn’t pay attention to you, and he’s rather pulling hard, that means you have no connection with your dog at all, and he gives a shit, where you are, and what you’re doing. I don’t really get why you need a dog, especially a serious akita for that purpose. I think the most beautiful thing in an akita is the bond you can build with him as an owner, and you discribed exactly the opposite of that. Have a good pulling, anyway. 😀 (I also wouldn’t reward hin when he’s pulled back, as you did it, not him.)

    Just adopted a 1 year old American Akita, it was a rehome situation. The previous owner had her as more or less a farm dog. Now she won't stop pulling while walking, to the point where she is weezing. It's made waking her very difficult. Great dog, no other obedience issues but this is a huge issue.
