      @@lmads8023 The fact you commented on this video to express your opinion that there is nothing wrong with a Nazi celebration tells me all I need to know about why you don't understand the difference between abuse for personal reasons, and racist abuse. Not condoning the abuse of lampard you mentioned, it's dispicable. However, lampard and his ancestors haven't faced opression and abuse for generations as a result of his mum dying, whereas adebayor and his ancestors have faced oppression and abuse due to the colour of their skin. If you can't see why the racial abuse of a player from Togo (a country which was for centuries exploited for slaves by colonial powers, who used racist attitudes as an excuse and justification for their actions) is worse than abuse of lampard for personal reasons then you need to give your head a rattle.

    I'm not writing this to take anyone's side, however it is important to point out that both Shaqiri and Xhaka were heavily booed by the Serbian fans every time they touched the ball. It doesn't make it less controversial, but I just wanna point out that both players did not just do it out of sheer, random stupidity or something like that

      @@WERTYUIO821 your point is not valid because you are biased against both of these players. I don’t care about who’s wrong and who’s right. What I saw and heard during the game was both of them getting booed every time they touched the ball, to which they responded provocatively. Those are simple facts, and I don’t care about making anyone look bad over some idiotic politics.
      About the booing: you’re claiming it’s impossible to hear boos in the stadium noise. Well how come people hear stuff like chants and boos during games in general? If no one ever heard them, no one would even know that such things exist. I understand that no one would hear 10 people shouting over a 20k crowd, but during that game almost half of the stadium was Serbian.

    7 greatest footballers that have been "forgotten" i.e. all time greats that are rarely mentioned in discussions for the GOAT/best in their position
    I think a list of examples better explains the concept:
    Miodrag Belodedici (2x UCL winner and star player for the unfancied Steaua of 86 and Red Star's 91 winners), Oleg Blokhin (Ballon D'Or winner), Romario (more goals than Pele), Gunter Netzer (was considered Gladbach's best player even while Keegan was there), Sandor Kocsis, Nandor Hidegkuti (both outshone Puskas in the Hungary national team of the 50s), Enzo Francescoli (one of the greatest dribblers of all time and hardly anyone knows who he is), Des Walker (arguably the best english CB between Franklin's retirement and Terry's debut), Dunga (most underrated World Cup winning captain of recent decades), Mathias Sammer (Ballon D'Or winner), Alessandro Costacurta (The focus is always on Maldini and Baresi but this guy was just as good!) etc.
    I'd be interested to see your list Alfie :)

      Sounds as if you could make individual videos about them. Even players like Garrincha and Eusebio don't get incredible amounts of attention. Or what of Just Fontaine and his thirteen goal World Cup? He only played 21 national matches and retired at 28.

    • @tomspreadbury2915
      @tomspreadbury2915 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevencooke6451 Very true but even when people talk about underrated players, we dont hear much about the guys I listed - especially, imo, Oleg Blokhin and Miodrag Belodedici. I feel like Eusebio and Garrincha still get a *decent (albeit not enough) amount of due plaudits
      I think it's partly due to the iron curtain effect in the case of Blokhin but it's a curious thing given he was easily the best player in the USSR teams that got to 2 Euros finals across 3 tournaments (and was in a squad player in 72 as well, where they were runners up) and Yashin, who by only actually playing well in one tournament with the USSR is always remembered - both won a ballon dor so i am curious as to why this is the case. Furthermore in the case of Blokhin, he played very similarly to Ronaldinho and players like that - skillful, magical feat, etc. etc. often get romanticised through nostalgia, but the opposite happened to Oleg
      As for Belodedici he is arguably an even better passer at centerback than Beckenbauer was. Furthermore, this is partnered with the fact he basically played like Vidic when not in possession lead to a very unique defender who was by far the best in the backlines of 2 of the 3 most unlikely European Cup/Champions League winning teams of all time. He was everpresent in both and there's a strong argument to therefore be made that he wasn't just the most important player but almost singlehandedly won the trophies with his defensive performances (especially the Steaua side). He's so forgotten that if you search him up on youtube the ONLY videos you can find are Romanian (where he's from). Literally nobody outside Romania seem to remember him - that's the literal definition of forgotten. Like, there's a very strong argument that he could be the greatest centerback of all time (though I'd still say Beckenbauer and Baresi >). It's the equivalent of nobody outside of Spain remembering Ramos, for example, in about 30 years time. It's just mindblowing
      It would make for an amazing video especially with Miodrags immigrant and impoverished roots and the fact he was a political refugee in Yugoslavia for 3 years during his career

    i think it's worth mentioning that the swiss national team has had issues with half albanian players doing the double headed eagle as a goal celebration before. it happened quite often, so the teams leaders decided together with the players, that they would not perform this kind of celebration while in the dress of the swiss national team (which makes sense). so shaqiri and xhaka (as our captain) performing that celebration against serbia anyway was even more controversial than just that, but we also kind of expected this to happen if they scored against serbia

    One of my favourite controversial celebrations was done by a colombian player who played for Rosario central against boca in which he made a sash gesture across his body referencing the sash on the river plate jersey because he used to play for river and river is Bocas greatest rival. That caused a near brawl in the field and a red card for the player. But whats confusing about the celebration is that he was generally unliked when he played at River and was let go because of his poor performance so people were confused why he was paying homage to a club that didn't like him very much while playing for a completely different team. It came across as "please like me again River!" While also being disrespectful to his current team at the time. In short that celebration managed to piss everyone off including his own team which is an amazing feat. He was also controversial for bringing a loaded pistol to the locker room one time.
    Another more mild controversial celebration i remember was by a DC united player versus the newly renamed Red Bull New York in which he celebrated by miming opening a red bull can, taking a sip, then spitting it out in disgust and throwing the can away. I believe he only got a yellow card for that but for mls standards its pretty controversial if not the most controversial mls celebration ever.......mls is pretty family friendly lol. And in a much deeper analysis, because mls is a single entity where the league owns all the clubs and players so he was in a sense making an insult to the league itself. Idk lol but I do remember it being pretty controversial at the time

    Xhaka's and Shaqiri's celebrations were not controversial in any way. They are Albanians and they celebrated their goals doing the national emblem of the country. Serbians often celebrate similarly with their own hand sign version (see Albania vs Serbia in 2015). If the national symbol of a country is controversial, then singing the anthems before games is equally controversial.
