Hey guys, I made a new maimai guide going much more indepth with the game's mechanics, as well with more sources you can use to improve th-cam.com/video/kvavTX-RKh8/w-d-xo.html
Just a note: If you ever do see a DX cab in North America or Europe, do not photograph it, and do not talk about it publicly online. It's likely an unofficial import, and Sega has been known to C&D arcades running those cabs in unauthorized regions if they ever find out about them. The arcades themselves will usually have signage saying not to photograph them, but... You know, people don't read signs.
Hi, maimai player with over 3 years of experience and a current top 100 max rating player in International version here It is very refreshing to see a full introduction video of maimai in all English, so kudos to you, this is very helpful for any new comers who want to try out this game This is gonna be long… So be ready it’s about to get geeky. Some more info that I think would be helpful: 1) The holds DO have a release timing in this game, buuuuut thankfully was removed since DX version. So if you are playing on a FiNALE cabinet, be aware that holds do make you release it at the same time of its end. It kinda sucks but at least we have moved on from that 2) Different kinds of notes have different scores. A normal tap note is just a normal tap note. Holds score 2x as much as a normal tap note. Slide is 3x the score, and break is a whopping 5 times more. This is why sometimes 1 miss can lead to different score loss, so uh you definitely don’t want to miss those slides or breaks. It really hurts 3) Speaking of scoring, break notes operate in a completely different way than all the other notes. 100.5% is the least possible score for any AP in a chart. So where does the extra .5% come from? The breaks. Breaks actually have 3 tiers of scores instead of two. This is normally invisible in DX version onwards, but is visible with some settings before FiNALE. The scores are as follows: 2600, 2550 and 2500. 2600 (which is basically a critical perfect since DX version) rewards the most extra score, 2550 rewards half, and 2500 rewards none. A simple example is Axeria (Master 14) which only has 2 break notes. If you get AP with both breaks at 2600, your score is 101%. Get AP with both breaks at 2550 and your score is 100.75%, 100.5% for AP with both breaks at 2500. It is simple division but it’s strange that only breaks are like this. Naturally EX breaks will always be critical perfect, and break slides… They follow the rules of normal slide notes so make sure to get perfects for those so you don’t lose a ton of points 4) Here are the kinds of achievements for individual charts other than the score grades: Full Combo (FC): this is self explanatory Full Combo+ (FC+): Get a full combo with no “good”s All Perfect (AP): self explanatory again All Perfect+ (AP+): Get 101% Full sync (FS): Both players get Full Combo (There’s also FS+ and I think only the person with FC+ or above would get it) Full sync DX (FDX): Both players get Full Combo+ (AP or AP+ also counts as long as the other gets FC+) Full sync DX+ (FDX+): Both players get All Perfect or above There are no achievements for both players getting All Perfect+, FDX+ is the highest 5) The songs can be sorted by versions. Completing a version with certain achievements rewards the player with a name plate of that version. This is where those individual chart achievements come in handy. Each version has 4 different name plates of that version name and you do not need to play any Re:Master charts to get them… with 5 exceptions. They are as follows: 極: all charts FC 將: all charts rank SSS 神: all charts AP 舞舞: all charts FDX These name plates really are just for showing off, but for those who want to challenge/prove themselves, here you go. I myself have got a few and it’s certainly not easy… You will definitely see people with them on their top of the screen 6) On etiquettes, just please, don’t hit the buttons or the screen too hard… like I understand if you’re playing ultra hard songs and you’re nervous (Believe me, I know that feeling too and I sometimes hit it harder than usual), but if you’re doing that all the time, it’s gonna break. I’ve seen people hit the buttons (not even the screen) so hard that the whole screen turns white for a split second. People will definitely call you out if you do that That’s about all I want to say. Improving in this game definitely takes a lot more effort than the average rhythm games. I’ve known people who struggle with slides for months. Please do enjoy the game in any way you want though, whether you just want to try something new or be a hardcore fan like I am.
For fs+ its basically if the players both fc on the same difficulty but for full sync (fs) its if both players full combo a song but they are playing on a different difficulty. One player playing basic who fc and the other playing advanced fc will get you a full sync But both players playing on the same dif will get full sync plus if both full combo. E.g. basic and basic
All of this information is really interesting. I didn't add some of this cause it might of been overwhelming for the video, but i'll keep it pin for anyone else that is interested in learning more
For the FS stuff kinda don't like that its difficulty related tho cause it feels bad to the guy at higher difficulty that if they both AP the lower difficulty gets FSDX+/FSD while the higher one gets FS only and its like the lowest level
for full sync rules on different difficulties: assuming both sides ap and 1 diff difference, lower diff gets fdx while higher gets fs+ 2 diff or bigger difference assuming both sides ap, lower gets fdx+ while higher gets fs
One thing I love about maimai is being able to socialise with other rhythm gamers. I’ve played the international version for a year before I moved to Japan, and although I can experience all the new stuff earlier, most people in Japan just play alone, which means I also end up playing alone too (and also that I usually cannot play 4 songs per credit so I’m spending more money than I would’ve) And with the return of utage charts in maimai buddies, which some of them require multiple people to play, I really do miss playing the international version. I guess it’s just a difference in culture
If you played in Japan during the last 3 or so years, it's most likely because of covid. Most arcades I frequent even went as far as to only allow single players for maimai at that time. If you're playing maimai seriously, you could try finding local matches (though there have been less of these over the years, due to KOP I think). Also Japanese people are quite reserved in general so if it's crowded and you're playing alone, try asking the people behind you to play together. They'll most likely accept. You could also try asking for their twitter account if both of you frequent the arcade. (PS. Don't give too much personal info as they might get overwhelmed) Good luck!
As a player who reach 13k and can remember the first time I play master like yesterday. Slide is the most hellish part in maimai learning because like you mentioned, there is no similarity to any game. You pretty much get back to step 1 in learning.
10:19 omg its me!!! Great video man, wish I had this video back when I was starting out; it was super informative in way that wasn't super confusing! ❤
Tips for beginners who are starting maimai: Don't be scared against a higher rating players, everyone started somewhere Purchase an aime card, that card will allow you to save your game, just ask the staff Glove is your best friends, one time i played maimai at the arcade and somehow i had gotten a blis Wearing gloves will not only have smoother slides, but also protect your hands Etiquette Please do not smack the buttons, tapping the buttons is fine, but smacking it is a big no no Please do not insert your token while the other player is playing,it will come out as rude and the player that plays it may not like it Last but not least After every game, please look behind to make sure there is no one waiting before playing the next round. If there is someone waiting, after your last track, please end the game and let the player have a turn.if the next player requested for a two player match ,then by all means just play it
Oddly enough, especially if a group has been established in a particular arcade, inserting tokens during song selection is permissible akin to placing a quarter to an arcade cab to say "oh, I'll play next". Again, the rule in OPs post is better to follow, but it is also interesting that some rules are modified in different places and cultures.
fun fact for 1:41 prior to the DX version, hold notes worked a little differently. unlike today's hold note, it actually worked based off hold release timings. so the moment you ever let go of a hold note before it finishes, it will ruin the perfect. as such, some pre-DX maps that contained those short hold notes were one of the hardest maps in it's time great video by the way, i'm about to share this to more friends to entice them to play with me
oh yeah i was going to mention that later in the video when I mentioned Finale machines. Parts like the hold section on Crush on You Re:Mas makes the easiest part of the map harder lmao
Oh man you used my old maimai videos💀I mean I understand why but watching this video gave me flashbacks to when I first started out lmao. Really great video introducing people to maimai! I hope to create something of this quality one day!

I love the social aspect of arcade games. I play a ton of Pump it Up and it's always fun when we can find people to play 3x-5x player co op with. My favorite arcade memory is playing maimai finale and getting pizza afterwards. And finding a third and fourth person to try attacking difficult co op songs like Tribe Attacker x4, Take Out x3, Yeo Rae A x5, and a few others on Pump it Up. There's a few co-op charts in maimai but it's not crazy like Pump gets. I almost always go with a friend though so the extra social interactions along the way is pretty nice. I'm saving up for a flight to Japan so I can go try maimai dx... And the other Japanese exclusive rhythm games.
Amazing video! Although I can't speak for the majority of 15k players, but I feel like not every 15k hates 14< charts, but as an almost 15k player (currently at 14921 D:) I generally wouldn't mind lower rating/beginners to choose song that they like or wanted to try since believe me 15k players were once like you too (wanted to get better or getting higher score). So yeah if anyone is new to this game, don't get discouraged by that, just be you and play or try whatever you like!
I simply love how thorough with all the fundamental information you've covered for this game and I can wholeheartedly agree with 100% of the things said in this video. Insta subscribe. Actually hell, I'm 16k rated myself and didn't even know misfired slides is called "splashing", and tbh while it can be a skill issue thing, there are times where it's the sensor itself is to blame and the player simply don't have the means to play on a different cab (due to either travel times, or there exists no better cabs). Some personal examples of mine with splashing is Raven Emperor's ending where the last 3 slides at the very final parts, where the cab I play on would splash the top slider even though I'm just hitting the center slide. Another one is being Grievous Lady during the spin at Tairitsu's laugh and "Re-resonate" parts where I would try to hit the spin pattern with the touchscreen, but it always end up with either 1 or even both of the slides "splashed". Last example I have is Break^3, where every spin pattern at the chorus would almost always end up splashing a slide if you tried to touchscreen it.
You may want to know that two maimai DX have been added to Round 1 Puente Hills Mall in Southern California. These cabinets are being installed as I write this comment. Also, these are brand new machines from SEGA.
As someone who has burned money on a completely different arcade game. Maimai is such a nice and satisfying game to casually play and to even watch people play. I sometimes drag the people from the other part of the arcade community to try it and they enjoy it way to easily and they even got better than me at maimai 😥. We're even lucky to enough to even try to socialise with the right people too. Its scary how fast maimai is getting more popular now compared to when I first played it in 2019 + it doesn't really burn my money compared to the other arcade game I played. (lets not talk about it the other arcade game I burn my money on 💸) Solid video btw. Surely you'd do more arcade videos like this
10:05 I would like to provide an addendum to that part, if I may; Yes, you would have to S rank the expert if both players haven't unlocked the master chart, but if one player does have it, the other player can "leech" and if they get an S rank on the master chart, they will unlock it without needing to play the expert again. This was a mechanic that was introduced in the Murasaki version of the game IIRC back in 2017. That's how I, someone who doesn't have easy access to maimai DX, unlock a lot of the songs whenever I can play LOL overall, fantastic video, fam
@@vianhoho19 Then u have to wait a year for the song to be out without the map Also the maps from the season thing where u have to beat other people's score cause I wanna try Verforte but I'm not good enough to unlock it through that
I love mai mai! My sister and i went to japan to meet our grandparents whom we hadn't met in four years due to covid and we also decided to try out mai mai! We lived in china and had seen people play mai mai for hours in the arcade and watched pros play and be scared to play ourselves. But during the time we went to japan, kids were in school so we got to play even though we had absolutely no skill- Still insanely fun! My sister and I have bonded a lot over mai mai, it was going to be our last summer together before she was going to college overseas so I was really happy for it ^^now im searching up mai mai plays on youtube to practice for when i see her again.
Wow, I have never seen a video that introduces this game in such detail, you must love this game so much, I love maimaiDX , too. Thanks for introducing maimai to more people :D ( BTW, I have a dera kuma doll, too :3
Here are some things I want to point out that I didn't see anyone comment here: 7:01 - This is not impossible with touchscreen, this is skill issue. The 7-5 slide actually requires you to touch sensor A6 or B6, and you most likely touched B6 here. This kind of slide is infamous for accidentally splashing even for button players but can be avoided if you pay attention to your tracing. 10:19 - Description on the bottom right is incorrect. It should be "BASIC - lvl5" instead of "UTAGE". Charts where you can actually dance to them were a thing back in the days.
Not impossible but very hard to not splash. I've talked to other touch players and they say the same thing about that specific chart I just assumed the dancing made it an utage chart, my b lol
Well I agree astrodx and the actual cabinet is definitely a different experience, I must say astrodx has absolutely improved my skills for understanding master charts way better! Sure the emulator might be more lenient on accuracy, but I think with enough practice, your skills could certainly transfer to the real cab! Also ending the video on enchanted love was beautiful
Honestly, thanks to this game, my city that has gathered numbers of players over time has successfully made a community that I actively participate in, a wholesome community that pushes other people and cheers for them whenever we improve and do impressive feats, when new players try it out, we always teach them the etiquettes and ensuring that the machines are well kept and maintained, it's the best rhythm game I've played. It's the most fun I've ever had where we have a connection to each other with. More people should have access to this machine, it's really an amazing experience especially with people. Shoutout kay erick.
Also you forgot to mention when you deep dive enough into the maimai community, sometimes there'll be local competition/tournament for maimai players. Depending on the organisers to set the rank limit, almost anyone with good enough knowledge can join the tournament if they are eligible.
I've been playing and stopping on maimai since 2014, I had troubles with my stamina because my arms always built up too much lactic acid so I always play technical songs with less taxing to my stamina. Up until now I still haven't got any 100% on any 14 dif songs but I'm happy nonetheless playing the game for almost 10 years.
Several arcades in Europe has maimai, and as you said, it's Finale. I frequently go to one that has maimai. Oh, and the cabs are connected to the internet, meaning I can sign in with my card at any other maimai Finale cab in Europe if I ever go to one of the other arcades that has maimai, or well, should be able to I don't really need to be worried about a queue to maimai at my local arcade as 1. It only allows max 100 visitors per shift (it's a freeplay arcade meaning you pay for entry and then you play whatever you want, with more frequent goers having the option of buying a pass which overall reduces the fee per visit), and there's plenty of other games (fighting games, shooting games, various driving/racing ones, a whole slew of pinball games). Also, due to opening times, it's typically only on school holidays (they are open on more days during those) it's fully booked (you can pre-book entry in advance), and there's generally a bit more visitors on the weekend following payday as well. So yeah, not typically so many people you have to wait to play, and there's other games that are available for one to play if the game they want to play is occupied 2. The rhythm games don't tend to draw in a lot of people here, presumably because of the aesthetics and them being a niche game category. Mostly kids are drawn to it outside of the clique of rhythm gamers. Others might try it, but most don't play it for more than maybe one or two credits So yeah, I usually don't have to wait to play maimai, or any of my local arcade's rhythm games really, as people either aren't drawn in/interested in those games and most of the time the place isn't fully booked. All the better for me, the one rhythm gamer that plays maimai more than any other of the rhythm gamers at my local arcade (the others are primarily Jubeat, DDR, ITG or DanceRush) And becoming as into rhythm games as I have after first visiting the arcade and subsequently becoming a regular has allowed me to meet new people to talk about and sometimes play rhythm games with, and being a rhythm gaming regular comes with the perk of sometimes getting to stay past closing as one of the guys working there sometimes stay and play after he's finished with work and let's me and other rhythm gamers to hang around and play more if we want 😄
4yr rainbow rank here. I absolutely love hang out with my BUDDiES in arcades over weekends and made a couple of friends as well. The gameplay is awesome and there are LOTS of great songs to pick. Original chihos come with gorgeous partners and songs and even contains some ARG (Project Raputa). Anyway, I like how the video is very detailed and accurate (I was literally crying over a 100.46% yesterday LOL) and would recommend anyone (w/ or w/out rhythm game experience) to give it a shot!
Maimai is the most fun rhythm game experience i've had. I find it difficult to get into many rhythm games since the lower levels are either too boring or missing too much outright kills you which eventually made me quit, but ive never felt that from maimai. Sadly I've had to stop playing because I've burnt up all my savings from the past 2 years, but it was definitely worth it.
10:13 you missed Singapore lol. I play there. Random tips, if you live/play in SE Asia, Daiso is a good place to get gloves. Also don't wear the gloves too tight, wear them a bit loose or get slightly bigger gloves cuz otherwise its really easy to wear holes in the fingertips. Have a buddy who burns through a pair of gloves like every few months
i burn through a pair every few sessions or even once a session because id rather not try and pull on my gloves everytime in the middle of a 14 or 14+ B)
speaking of burning money, it's probably among the most time efficient arcade games for your money. 8 mins of gameplay for 3.50 aud is pretty good, and 12 if you include menu time. add the fact that you'll be in turns all the time (which you can learn from) and that's even more cheaper. only like pinball can even compete, and perhaps if you are very good at rail shooters or are massacreing people at wangan multis, other rhythm games are close but not quite as time efficient. only reason i legit invested into maimai was because i wanted to invest my time and money into an arcade game which'll be most cost effective for time.
3.5 aud per game? Woah thats pretty steep compared to sg. Most arcades here are about 1-1.5 sgd and there are some that are even slightly less than 0.4 sgd.
I have played maimaiDX for almost 4 years and had a lot of fun through the journey. I found the group of people in my university who play maimai and since then had been good friends with them. This August, my DX rating reach 15,000 and I even got the plate called 真極 (FCing every chart of every difficulty (excluding Re:MASTER) in the version maimai and maimai PLUS excluding the jingle bell song. which is about 84 songs), which took me 12 days of hard work. I am really satisfied with the accomplishments I have done and is eager to improve even more in the future.
This video couldn't have been recommended to me at a better time. I will be having a Pump competition in another city at 30th September where they have the Finale version. I played Blows Up Everything on osu!mania, but otherwise never played the game at all cuz my city doesn't have it :( I wished this video would also show the menu interface (what happens after I insert credits) and how you navigate the song selection. Otherwise, it's an awesome video to newcomers like me.
I tried this game for the first time and its really fun, especially the socializing part. The "follow the star" and the 2 yellow note is really hard, especially if the receding difficulty is super boring (cuz I waste money for that).
Good news for Americans: As of May 24th this year, maimai DX Buddies has been officially introduced to America. Currently the game can only be found at a Round1 arcade in LA, according to the official maimai DX website.
Well Round1 USA is the American branch of the Japanese Round1 company so I guess if any arcade company can get the right from SEGA to import it would be them.😊
I'm pretty sure that finale is still rather up to date, given that the last update was surprisingly 2022 dec, and has some absolutely memey songs to go with it, ones i don't believe are in dx.
this video is so well made! more people should play maimai for sure >:) i hope more people find you cause the effort made in this video is so good v underrated
@@SaowAngel Thanks for the info! I've been meaning to get a derakuma plush for awhile since i also have the Chuni-Penguin one with me! I dropped a sub, i'm excited to see more cool videos like this again! I hope you get Rainbow soon!
this is a pretty good video about the game, might show these to one of my frens who are willing to play, been playing for a year and a half now but there is still much to learn i suppose
I am so thankful that my arcade is $15 for all day play, so I'm not breaking the bank *too* bad when I play maimai. Even better since they introduced monthly passes for $65
Yep, now I go like 3 times a week for ~9 hours a day with my partner and 2 friends Like 6 hours maimai and 3 hours Wacca, I'm glad this arcade popped up last year, it introduced me to both of them and reignited my love of rhythm games
Notes on the maimai FInale cabs, depending on the arcade, some operators will change the language into English and some have connections to unofficial servers. Now, I'm not going to post details about them online but if you see a green network icon on a Finale cab, ask around to see if anyone knows where it connects to. Also, the number of songs that can be played per credit is set by the operator and the 3 for solo and 4 for dual is not a hard and fast rule.
I really dont like the socialization part of maimai ☹️. There was one time when I played maimai and there this one person that puts tokens to the machine, uhhhhhhhhhh after i play, i got rlly confused cuz i was still able to play without having to put tokens (i should have noticed that when he played w/ me for the first time). He has a friend and uhhhhhh i didnt like that i got to play maimai w/ his own tokens cuz he has friend and he should have played his friend instead of me, and uhhhhhh idk why my acc didnt log off after i played the first game.... Uhhhh i rlly dont like socializing :(
Also, i play maimai in two different malls. The mall that i mainly go with has a lot of ppl that play maimai. I rlly dont have any chance to play cuz i dont wanna socialize 😭. So most of the time i just play chunithm. Uhhhh i still got to play maimai tho if it's rlly early cuz the ppl that mostly play there are students and they're still at school so there is no ppl playjng :3 im sorry that this comment is so long 😭. i just rlly dont like that maimai is a multiplayer game lol (i suck)
Wow, interesting.. I had no idea about this game, but it looks fun I think even a game like Maimai could be ideal as a hypothetical new mode for Osu. I think it could work, not many people can have access to it. Although I have no idea if this would be legal or not, or if it's just possible beyond modding
I've been playing maimai for a year and somehow never knew about EX notes so good video Also I play without gloves so u don't need a gloves to start though it gets harder songs get
Man I gotta go back, used to play in Maimai Pink days and stopped at Murasaki. I hope my back ain't too old for this new gen of maimai. I made the mistake on going to difficult songs and that's why I'm not accurate(we didn't have cards so Master difficulty got unlocked, it's basically offline mode). Gotta build up my accuracy with expert songs first.
Nice video! Now make a video about chunithm because we need more chuni players to suffer Also you missed an important thing: if there's a whiteboard for queuing, it's mandatory to draw on it if you have markers
@@SaowAngel Fair. Maimai BUDDiES only released here in Japan 6 days before you uploaded this video, and back then the new DX utage videos were scarce XD But yea as smo who only started playing since late Splash, I'm so glad I could finally experience (some) of the Utage stuffs my veteran friends have been singing praises about.
Hello, thank you for the video. It's a great video to enjoy as I'm currently enjoying burning my wallet as I play Maimai. I wanted to ask you a question. Do you sometime feel stuck in rating or not improving as you play? I am currently at rating 13.3k and trying to aim at least 14k but feel stuck recently. Any tips or chart / difficulty recommendations (and the rank that I should try to get) that you can give to me? Much appreciated!
best to try out more 13s and 13+s to create a higher skill cap as well with playing more masters so you get used to slides. There's a folder for charts recommended at your rating in game you can browse through to find maps to farm as well. also play Umiyuri ;)
Regarding maimai etiquette. I personally don’t mind whatever song or difficulty other people choose. My sweet spot is 13+ to 14+ but I don’t mind playing easier charts. But I encountered that one guy who keeps playing the same song over and over and that pisses me off. I like to have variety in my songs
Came across these in thailand randomly (alongside guitar freaks) and when I started playing, this kinda is the only arcade game that has my favorite songs in it but they all kicked my ass cus how the game works (I just have skill issue)
Man y’all are so lucky. I live in Canada and we have jack shit in terms of rhythm game arcades unless you live in BC (which I unfortunately live on the opposite side of Canada). I wanna play games like maimai and sound voltex and taiko but there is literally nothing near me :(
My friend got me into this back when festival came out He threw me into 14s 15K rating later im fighting the music to get SSS The addiction is real, but the game is so rewarding. Its the main way ive socialised after HS. *can SL plz get a fan plzzzz
bro is there a new version called maimai buddies? just wanted to know cause saw one at mt gravatt westfield brisbane queensland, don’t play it but just saw one
Cool video! but i do have a question, does maimai Finale work with an aime card that has the same account that i used for maimaiDX? sorry for the bad explanation.
Late response but it depends on the FiNALE cab. If you get lucky and find a modded FiNALE cab with online mode on it, then yes you can use an aime card. If it’s offline, then no.
Hey guys, I made a new maimai guide going much more indepth with the game's mechanics, as well with more sources you can use to improve
th-cam.com/video/kvavTX-RKh8/w-d-xo.html
Just a note: If you ever do see a DX cab in North America or Europe, do not photograph it, and do not talk about it publicly online. It's likely an unofficial import, and Sega has been known to C&D arcades running those cabs in unauthorized regions if they ever find out about them. The arcades themselves will usually have signage saying not to photograph them, but... You know, people don't read signs.
Dw there's no dx machines in america that i totally didn't show :clueless:
oh that's why my SD card was corrupted
about the FS+, I got fc and my duo gets FC+ and I still get FS+
But we are talking about it publicly 🤨
@@t-kaardo Sega knows it's happening but they don't know where. If you find a DX cab outside of Asia. Don't talk about it in public.
Hi, maimai player with over 3 years of experience and a current top 100 max rating player in International version here
It is very refreshing to see a full introduction video of maimai in all English, so kudos to you, this is very helpful for any new comers who want to try out this game
This is gonna be long… So be ready it’s about to get geeky. Some more info that I think would be helpful:
1) The holds DO have a release timing in this game, buuuuut thankfully was removed since DX version. So if you are playing on a FiNALE cabinet, be aware that holds do make you release it at the same time of its end. It kinda sucks but at least we have moved on from that
2) Different kinds of notes have different scores. A normal tap note is just a normal tap note. Holds score 2x as much as a normal tap note. Slide is 3x the score, and break is a whopping 5 times more. This is why sometimes 1 miss can lead to different score loss, so uh you definitely don’t want to miss those slides or breaks. It really hurts
3) Speaking of scoring, break notes operate in a completely different way than all the other notes.
Naturally EX breaks will always be critical perfect, and break slides… They follow the rules of normal slide notes so make sure to get perfects for those so you don’t lose a ton of points
4) Here are the kinds of achievements for individual charts other than the score grades:
Full Combo (FC): this is self explanatory
Full Combo+ (FC+): Get a full combo with no “good”s
All Perfect (AP): self explanatory again
All Perfect+ (AP+): Get 101%
Full sync (FS): Both players get Full Combo (There’s also FS+ and I think only the person with FC+ or above would get it)
Full sync DX (FDX): Both players get Full Combo+ (AP or AP+ also counts as long as the other gets FC+)
Full sync DX+ (FDX+): Both players get All Perfect or above
There are no achievements for both players getting All Perfect+, FDX+ is the highest
5) The songs can be sorted by versions. Completing a version with certain achievements rewards the player with a name plate of that version. This is where those individual chart achievements come in handy. Each version has 4 different name plates of that version name and you do not need to play any Re:Master charts to get them… with 5 exceptions. They are as follows:
極: all charts FC
將: all charts rank SSS
神: all charts AP
舞舞: all charts FDX
These name plates really are just for showing off, but for those who want to challenge/prove themselves, here you go. I myself have got a few and it’s certainly not easy… You will definitely see people with them on their top of the screen
6) On etiquettes, just please, don’t hit the buttons or the screen too hard… like I understand if you’re playing ultra hard songs and you’re nervous (Believe me, I know that feeling too and I sometimes hit it harder than usual), but if you’re doing that all the time, it’s gonna break. I’ve seen people hit the buttons (not even the screen) so hard that the whole screen turns white for a split second. People will definitely call you out if you do that
That’s about all I want to say.
One player playing basic who fc and the other playing advanced fc will get you a full sync
But both players playing on the same dif will get full sync plus if both full combo. E.g. basic and basic
ah it's difficulty related
thanks for the extra info on that
All of this information is really interesting. I didn't add some of this cause it might of been overwhelming for the video, but i'll keep it pin for anyone else that is interested in learning more
For the FS stuff kinda don't like that its difficulty related tho cause it feels bad to the guy at higher difficulty that if they both AP the lower difficulty gets FSDX+/FSD while the higher one gets FS only and its like the lowest level
for full sync rules on different difficulties:
assuming both sides ap and 1 diff difference, lower diff gets fdx while higher gets fs+
2 diff or bigger difference assuming both sides ap, lower gets fdx+ while higher gets fs

"Except when they don't"

One thing I love about maimai is being able to socialise with other rhythm gamers. I’ve played the international version for a year before I moved to Japan, and although I can experience all the new stuff earlier, most people in Japan just play alone, which means I also end up playing alone too (and also that I usually cannot play 4 songs per credit so I’m spending more money than I would’ve) And with the return of utage charts in maimai buddies, which some of them require multiple people to play, I really do miss playing the international version. I guess it’s just a difference in culture
Here in aus there isn't enough cabs so you're pretty much forced to play with others
(PS. Don't give too much personal info as they might get overwhelmed)
Good luck!
Glad you enjoyed the video and feature! I decided to make it cause there wasn't much beginner guides to maimai in the first place :D
you are a legend haku :3
@@junjun8855 awww ty!! :33
Tips for beginners who are starting maimai:
Don't be scared against a higher rating players, everyone started somewhere
Purchase an aime card, that card will allow you to save your game, just ask the staff
Glove is your best friends, one time i played maimai at the arcade and somehow i had gotten a blis
Wearing gloves will not only have smoother slides, but also protect your hands
Etiquette
Please do not smack the buttons, tapping the buttons is fine, but smacking it is a big no no
Please do not insert your token while the other player is playing,it will come out as rude and the player that plays it may not like it
Last but not least
After every game, please look behind to make sure there is no one waiting before playing the next round. If there is someone waiting, after your last track, please end the game and let the player have a turn.if the next player requested for a two player match ,then by all means just play it
respect for the last one sir.
Can’t agree more for the last one
Oddly enough, especially if a group has been established in a particular arcade, inserting tokens during song selection is permissible akin to placing a quarter to an arcade cab to say "oh, I'll play next". Again, the rule in OPs post is better to follow, but it is also interesting that some rules are modified in different places and cultures.
fun fact for 1:41
prior to the DX version, hold notes worked a little differently. unlike today's hold note, it actually worked based off hold release timings. so the moment you ever let go of a hold note before it finishes, it will ruin the perfect. as such, some pre-DX maps that contained those short hold notes were one of the hardest maps in it's time
great video by the way, i'm about to share this to more friends to entice them to play with me
oh yeah i was going to mention that later in the video when I mentioned Finale machines.
Your overview video game actually gave me some motivation to continue playing maimai when I was new, but thank you for enjoying the video

Yeah there's so many of those slides that make it splashable. It feels like luck sometimes
(lets not talk about it the other arcade game I burn my money on 💸)
Solid video btw. Surely you'd do more arcade videos like this
We'll see in the future ;) i would love to expand my range of content to other games as well
10:05 I would like to provide an addendum to that part, if I may; Yes, you would have to S rank the expert if both players haven't unlocked the master chart, but if one player does have it, the other player can "leech" and if they get an S rank on the master chart, they will unlock it without needing to play the expert again. This was a mechanic that was introduced in the Murasaki version of the game IIRC back in 2017. That's how I, someone who doesn't have easy access to maimai DX, unlock a lot of the songs whenever I can play LOL
overall, fantastic video, fam
Me when i avoid going on update day so i can leech of other people
@@SaowAngel unless it's a Chiho-bound song 😔 because that means you still have to progress on your own Chiho to "properly" unlock it

3:32 did you know? Altale’s master chart is actually 60 bpm in terms of the slide delay
Wow, I have never seen a video that introduces this game in such detail, you must love this game so much,
I love maimaiDX , too. Thanks for introducing maimai to more people :D
( BTW, I have a dera kuma doll, too :3
thank you! glad to see more people enjoy this game
Here are some things I want to point out that I didn't see anyone comment here:
7:01 - This is not impossible with touchscreen, this is skill issue.
I've talked to other touch players and they say the same thing about that specific chart
I just assumed the dancing made it an utage chart, my b lol
hi zisos
Depending on the organisers to set the rank limit, almost anyone with good enough knowledge can join the tournament if they are eligible.
i haven't seen much around but that's still a good point
Don't forget king of performai
I've been playing and stopping on maimai since 2014, I had troubles with my stamina because my arms always built up too much lactic acid so I always play technical songs with less taxing to my stamina. Up until now I still haven't got any 100% on any 14 dif songs but I'm happy nonetheless playing the game for almost 10 years.
Several arcades in Europe has maimai, and as you said, it's Finale.
I frequently go to one that has maimai.
Oh, and the cabs are connected to the internet, meaning I can sign in with my card at any other maimai Finale cab in Europe if I ever go to one of the other arcades that has maimai, or well, should be able to
I don't really need to be worried about a queue to maimai at my local arcade as
1. So yeah, not typically so many people you have to wait to play, and there's other games that are available for one to play if the game they want to play is occupied
2. The rhythm games don't tend to draw in a lot of people here, presumably because of the aesthetics and them being a niche game category. Mostly kids are drawn to it outside of the clique of rhythm gamers. Others might try it, but most don't play it for more than maybe one or two credits
So yeah, I usually don't have to wait to play maimai, or any of my local arcade's rhythm games really, as people either aren't drawn in/interested in those games and most of the time the place isn't fully booked. All the better for me, the one rhythm gamer that plays maimai more than any other of the rhythm gamers at my local arcade (the others are primarily Jubeat, DDR, ITG or DanceRush)
And becoming as into rhythm games as I have after first visiting the arcade and subsequently becoming a regular has allowed me to meet new people to talk about and sometimes play rhythm games with, and being a rhythm gaming regular comes with the perk of sometimes getting to stay past closing as one of the guys working there sometimes stay and play after he's finished with work and let's me and other rhythm gamers to hang around and play more if we want 😄
Great video mate, honestly a really good explain video for those who are interested and it definitely is an experience to play
thank you!

Hi skireu

I have played maimaiDX for almost 4 years and had a lot of fun through the journey. I found the group of people in my university who play maimai and since then had been good friends with them. This August, my DX rating reach 15,000 and I even got the plate called 真極 (FCing every chart of every difficulty (excluding Re:MASTER) in the version maimai and maimai PLUS excluding the jingle bell song. which is about 84 songs), which took me 12 days of hard work. I am really satisfied with the accomplishments I have done and is eager to improve even more in the future.
Congrats on the fc plate!
Try it yourself, feel my pain XD
真極 does not require any RE:master and the christmas tree
@@陳恩宇-v9v Yeah I mentioned it with 2 "exclude"s.
Update: I now have a rank of 15479 and am in the middle of grinding for the 霸者 plate (Clearing every song to Finale), pain.
Hope I get to see you at the next sydney hangout, man! Great video, will be using it to introduce some friends.
I'll probably come to smh3 when that happens ;)
I tried this game for the first time and its really fun, especially the socializing part. The "follow the star" and the 2 yellow note is really hard, especially if the receding difficulty is super boring (cuz I waste money for that).
Good news for Americans: As of May 24th this year, maimai DX Buddies has been officially introduced to America. Currently the game can only be found at a Round1 arcade in LA, according to the official maimai DX website.
Well Round1 USA is the American branch of the Japanese Round1 company so I guess if any arcade company can get the right from SEGA to import it would be them.😊

10:46 so nobody noticed the left monitor?

Wow, interesting.. I had no idea about this game, but it looks fun
I think even a game like Maimai could be ideal as a hypothetical new mode for Osu. I think it could work, not many people can have access to it. Although I have no idea if this would be legal or not, or if it's just possible beyond modding
There was an osu lazer game mode like this (it sucked)
I've been playing maimai for a year and somehow never knew about EX notes so good video
Also I play without gloves so u don't need a gloves to start though it gets harder songs get
starting out you don't need gloves since the charts aren't that hard, but later only you would need them to swipe all over the screen
11:40 I think you hit this crosshand with your right hand hitting the left note and vice versa

I'm still confused about how the card for maimai works, can anyone teach me? (The only cab available in my place is Maimai Finale).
the cab has to be online (connect to a server) in order for you to login or make an account, sadly most finale cabs are offline
@@kaifyuu damn it, now to wait an uncertain amount of time for a Maimai DX cab because my town is behind by 10 years.
Hmmm, finally i find this kind of content
My friend got me into this back when festival came out
He threw me into 14s
15K rating later im fighting the music to get SSS
The addiction is real, but the game is so rewarding.
Its the main way ive socialised after HS.
*can SL plz get a fan plzzzz
i am going to japan and hogkong a the summer holidays thanks for in info on mai mai :D
Imagine being chosen 2 Pandoras every time
i'd rather die
@@SaowAngel I was chosen Pandora and QZ requiem (again)
bro is there a new version called maimai buddies? just wanted to know cause saw one at mt gravatt westfield brisbane queensland, don’t play it but just saw one
It's like proseka but circular!
FINALLY SOMETHING TO DO IN PERTH!!!!
Sorry that your city is far from civilisation
I will never understand why these companies don’t internationally release these games, or why they don’t release them in America at least.
Cool video! but i do have a question, does maimai Finale work with an aime card that has the same account that i used for maimaiDX? sorry for the bad explanation.
i think it does? ive def seen an aime card sensor on some finale machines before
Late response but it depends on the FiNALE cab. If you get lucky and find a modded FiNALE cab with online mode on it, then yes you can use an aime card. If it’s offline, then no.
10:47 the other pc!!!
Man, we in Thailand are spoiled. Is a queue board that rare outside Thailand?
All places have at least a small white board.
I've only seen one place here
To be honest... How to make an account tho... Without the card? Its confusing
Dont get me started with princess LOL
i play chunithm more but only because there's always a 10 people line for these 😭
Is there any maimai or anything related to it in the USA? I really want to try it out instead of traveling around 😭
