- Make 20 different quilt layouts using just two charm packs. The quilt layouts use 80 half square triangles in an 8 x 10 grid. If you use charm packs, each half square triangle will finish at 4" making the final quilt 32" x 40".

Love your layouts. I have 1,100 HST 41/2” and didn’t know what to do with them. I made them about 40 years ago and found them in a bag. Now I can use a number of your layouts

Wow! Who knew you could make so many quilt patterns with this method? I did not. I'm new to quilting.
HSTs are like magic - so many possibilities with just one block!
IKR! And if you use them with a single background color, you can do different things... and if you mix in some 4-patches, so easy too... yowza!

Great inspiration for all those charm packs sitting in my stash! I use a flannel backed table cloth tacked to my wall for my layouts. Inexpensive and simple solution as I can take it down when not in use.

I want a layout wall so bad, but I have a cat who will definitely try to climb it. She has a door covered in felt & canvas that is her climbing toy. She wouldn't understand the difference. So I like your idea of the flannel backed tablecloth that I can remove when I'm not there to protect it. :)

So many great layouts!! It's taken me a while to appreciate the hst but I love how they look in a quilt and it's a great lesson in taking things a little slower and having patience. I usually break mine up in groups. I'll sew a few, trim & iron them and start again. It doesn't seem so overwelming and the end product is so rewarding!!
They really do require patience. I love the idea of splitting it all up. I always save a special podcast episode or TH-cam video for when I have a lot of them to make. It helps me get through it!

If you trim your HSTs before you press them open, you only have to make two cuts. A piece of masking tape placed on the diagonal makes aligning your ruler on the unit even quicker!

For a design wall, I hang up a vinyl flannel backed rectangular table cloth. Super cheap at Walmart.

Someone gave me some scrap fabric with a stack of HSTs in green. I cut up the rest of the fabric and made a bunch of HSTs. I thought I had decided on a layout, but after seeing your video with the variations, I need to do more thinking.

What is the size of layout? If I put a honey bun strip for the borders would 45 inches x 60 inches batting be enough for that?
Love these. However, im very, very intimidated by hst's. No matter if I press open or to one side, i ALWAYS have a big knot in the center where all the seams meet. Thank you for the patterns.
HSTs can be tough when all the seams meet in the same spot. I'll put this in my list of video ideas so I make sure to cover it in an upcoming video!
