The Canik has more capacity, red dot ready, has the ability to mount a light, has a better trigger, has replacable backstraps, and costs around the same. Yeah......unless it shoots terribly or randomly explodes the Canik is just better for the price.
There IS a couple of things going against it tho. One of them, is huge. At least around here, we canNOT get them! Nobody has them on the shelves, our local FFLs say their distributors are backordered, and IF we can find them online, the dealers want maximum MSRP due to availability. Obviously, as the new kid on the block aftermarket support has to play catch up. That's only a temporary con tho. It will clearly be a very popular pistol, and once it gets more into circulation, more and more people will be offering holsters, and such for them. That said there's also some pros that I can add to your list. 1) Magazines. It can use the mags from it's older, bigger brothers. This includes what are considered standard magazine, and the extended mags. Don't think that there are mag grip sleeves for them yet tho. 2) Canik throws a LOT into the box. If they were charging for all the case candy that they include, this would definitely increase the pricepoint by $100-150. There is also an option (Again... if you can FIND it!) to purchase the MC9 with a Mecanik01 RDS *included* as a package deal for around an additional $100. That in itself is tremendous bang for the buck, and from what I have read and watched, the Mecanik01 is being very well received.
I own both. For me, the Canik was easier to shoot, and more accurate out of the box. Ironically, it made me become more accurate with my Shield. Can't go wrong with either one. Both are comfortable to carry, and comfortable to shoot.
I heard the caniks were snappy as hell but it felt really good shooting it imo. Shot it much better than I did with a shield too. Probably because the trigger is so good.
I believe you can still get the "pinky" extension baseplates from S&W or from aftermarket manufacturers like Pearce, etc. as well. I've used those since the Gen1 Shield and it makes all the difference if you're carrying the shorter mag and running the larger one as your backup.
I put the extension on my ten rounder as well. Turns out to be the same length as the 13 rounder, so I use the ten round mag for range duty. I carry two 13 rounders. Just fyi. Great review, thanks.
@@tangowhiskey7476 I wound up ordering the magguts +3 extension on the 10 round mag. It's similar in size to the pinky extension, but takes you to 13. In my opinion, absolutely worth the 30 or so dollars. If your going to run the extension, might as well get the extra rounds.
I have a Shield Plus and love it. Excellent shooter and carries very comfortably for me. The Canik looks like a nice gun. I may need to check one out next time I visit my local shop.
The Shield Plus “Optics Ready” has good night sights, a slightly improved grip texture and trigger; over the regular Shield Plus. Personally I think the Shield Plus Optics Ready in one of the best carry size pistols on the market. On a “full size” 9mm; I think the Walther PDP is the best of the best, closely followed by the Canik Rival.
Would like to see a shoot out between the Performance Center S&W 3.1" Shield Plus (ported & unported), the cheaper S&W 3.1" Shield Plus, the Canik MC9, as well as the new FN Reflex. I think you couldn't go wrong with any of these, as well as they are all reliable.
Few months back got the Shield Plus bug out version. It has the Optic Ready version with the night sights and nice flat trigger with a total of (4) 13 round mags and (1) 10 round mag with a sling bag for 429.00 new.. Awesome shooting pistol, no issues with it ,,Highly recommend..
Good video… I’ve been wanting to see a comparison of these two because one of them will be my next… I already have the Shield 2.0 in 40 and in 9mm and I love them and I also have a Canik tp9da and love it too… but I’m a bit of a S&W fanboy and I’m leaning more toward the Shield plus… I was glad to see this video though, you do a great job on your reviews and comparisons
The thickness is a point that can matter depending on where you carry and your clothes you wear. There is a fairly big visible difference between the two and that makes the S&W more concealable for some people. It's not a big deal for me. But I think if I were to carry that thick of a gun, I would choose a compact over a subcompact for the all around performance. But I really like the light rail option even on subcompact pistols. The S&W grip texture is my favorite and the shield has a really long track record for reliability too. But I have been admiring the Canik pistols for a while. But I chose the S&W shield performance center 45 a while back and I've been very happy with it.
Thanks for the comparison. The magazine and grip are a scoshe wider on the canik, thus the 2 extra rounds. If you put a rail on the shield, it would be wider than the slide and less concealable. Go for the m&p subcompact if you need a rail.
picked up my plus for 399 today. Canik was actually 50 dollars more and the stippling on the plus was the determining factor for me. I felt like my purchase on the gun was so strong and secure compared to the canik.
I have the PC S&W Shield Plus ported 4" & love it. So noticeably less recoil than my P365XL with a Wilson Combat grip module. Shot it with a Red Dot & then without. Prefer it without the red dot as the fiberoptic sights are really nice. PC Shield trigger is 4 lbs. at the bottom of the trigger, 4-1/2 lbs. a bit higher, & 5 lbs. at the center of the trigger. A very accurate, but expensive pistol.
I have 2 shield plus'. I've been interested in that 4" ported PC OR but. 45. They are pricy compared to the rest of the line up. That same model in 9mm Plus is sweet too. That, and yours are my favorite SKU. But they definitely are pricy. Everywhere.
@@J.Wick. The 4" ported barrel also has more power than my P365XL's 3.7" barrel as proven on a steel flip target at 8 yds. The 3.7" barrel would move it but not flip it over. The 4" ported barrel with same ammo & distance was able to flip it. (My P365 with its 3.1" barrel would barely move the flip target.)
A better comparison for your G26 is the Canik TP9 Elite SC. They are basically the same size. Pretty sure there are some videos comparing them. The SC has been around for about 4 years now I believe and has proven itself to be a great firearm. It also shares magazines with the MC9, as well as larger capacity Canik magazines. (18-20 round)
I am a big Canik fan, but I don't like the void on the back side of the magazine on the grip. I got rid of my TP9 Elite SC for that reason. I have the Shield Plus Performance Center and really like it. Both of these guns lack night sights as standard, I think they are essential on a CCW. The Sig 365XL comes standard with night sights, although I have a red dot on mine.
We as shooters are living in a great era! Minus pricing. I've shot both these pistols, but don't own either - "gun poor". As for price, trigger, available options, overall conceal-ability & capacity.... The Canik would be the winner; not so fast.... I'm someone who promotes buying American & I think the quality of the Shield Plus is great!!! So.... be thankful we have these great choices to make.
I Bought a S&W 9mm Shield plus for $399.99 new. I love it.I also have a S&W 9mm Shield. After upgrading the trigger it shoots as good as my Shield Plus. I am keeping both.
Thanks for the excellent comparison. I'd love to see what you have to say about a comparison between the MC9 and a P365, largely because they're so different and how much do the pros or cons outweigh one another in both directions.
Or you can buy a IWI Masada Slim and has 13 +1 with a flush mag and have 3 finger contact. Mine is 5 months old and flawless with zero malfunctions with 1,600 rounds through it.

My Masada Slim gets more carry time by far than any other micro compact. My P365X probably comes in 2nd, Hellcat and Shield Plus tied for 3rd.
In the real world the shield plus is cheaper. I see the optics ready version for 377 right now and you can get the standard version for 399 pretty much always.
I was just looking for this comment. About mid last year all retailers dropped Sheild plus prices by 100 dollars or so. The No optics is alway 400 and optics with night sights is 450. And the last month or so the have had a 50 dollar rebate available. But I’m sure that will go away. So i would say price is nearly identical.
@@boblaws9851 the big things I see are the light rail and the back straps which could be important for a lot of people. And if 390 is the street price it certainly a very high value.
@@boblaws9851 Most people are paying closer to 500 for a MC9 right now. Also I think it’s safe to say the MC9 isn’t as reliable as the shield plus. Or at least has more flaws popping up.
There is a significant gap at the back of the 15 round mag when inserted on the MC9, where it’s not flush with the backstrap. Some reviewers have mentioned that this digs into the heel of your hand and is not comfortable. Can anyone speak to that potential issue?
The Shield plus is my EDC, I love it and it shoots great. I have been wanting the Canik meta mc9 but a few days ago I started seeing videos on the FN reflex and I’m going to get it instead.
My shield plus XoX after a month with a popped out slide lock pin, and my MC9 XoX the very first day with a ripped recoil spring. Waiting for the parts now, hope they will return to me fine
From videos, the Canik appears to be a tweener: larger than a micro but smaller than a subcompact. I believe the term is "Internet inches." Probably best to compare in person. Certainly a good value in any case.
I wish Canik had spent a bit more time on the grip. That ridiculous empty space when using the extended mag isn’t acceptable and leaves the bottom of the backstrap in the middle of my palm. Much better execution with the Shield+. I’m sure people will be well served by both but the Shield+ is a better choice for me.
I hope they remedy that with newly designed mags. I like a full "tang" grip. They probably did it that way to save money and make it easier to conceal, should you be running the 15 rd mag. Grip is the hardest part to hide
I have shot both side by side. The Canik has a better trigger but the Shield Plus is better overall. The Shield just fills MY hand perfectly and shoots sweet. Most importantly, after market support is incomparable for the Shield.
Did I miss one of the very important numbers regarding the two pistols??? Width. The Canik looks noticeably wider than the Shield Plus. That’s one of the important reasons I chose the Shield. It’s with me every day and when you’re a skinny old fart, it makes a difference in not printing…. I put a MagGuts kit in both the mags that gives me 12 rounds in the short one with a little pinky extension that allows three fingers without increasing printing, and 15 rounds in the long mag. Performance Center trigger and porting makes a huge difference as well. The Shield prints noticeably less. The Shield lists 1.1 inches wide and the Canik lists 1.12 inches. Something doesn’t add up because the Canik looks noticeably wider to me….
@@luckymanham302 First off, it sure doesn’t look like that in the pictures, and second if I shoot my Shield Plus empty I grab the slide to load the gun-slide stop is irrelevant. I have a TP9SFX that I shoot in USPSA that I did a few mods to and I love it, so it’s not that I don’t like their gear.
@@danulman8837 ok I’m just telling you the slide stop/ release is not the same as the SFX which I also own, but it IS the same as the Elite SC which I also own. You do you champ 👍🏻I’m not telling you or anyone how to operate your pistols.
Agreed, the canik is wider. You can tell by just looking at the mags. The canik mag appears to be a true double stack, like a glock mag, whereas the shield plus mag is more of a stack & 1/2. That's how canik squeezes in the 2 extra rounds. The shield slide also has lightening cuts down each side and is definitely thinner than the boxey canik slide. Also, no accessory rail makes the shield thinner below the barrel and more concealable. The canik has a nice trigger, but the shield plus does too.
Shield optic ready with night sights is 400-450 everywhere. Street price of course. MSRP doesn’t mean much thankfully. The Canik is definitely suffering from more reliability issues when looking around the web. My own MC9 has mag ejection issues.
I've experienced those issues and at least one more. Contacted Canik. They said the gun needed to go back to them and sent me a form. Filled it out and emailed it back with the list of issues I've been having, expecting to receive a RA number. Crickets. I've put 362 rounds through the MC9 so far, all gr's and multiple brands.
@@jameseason9949 Yeah I haven’t reached out to them regarding this issue since I’m currently testing it out. But I can’t say I’m surprised I heard they’re backlogged with returns right now. I cannot confirm that but that’s what I heard. Probably a lot of MC9s going back for work but who really knows. I’ve yet to deal with Caniks customer service yet. So idk what’s considered normal but you’re not the first person I’ve heard say that recently.
@hammer striker I have a very difficult time believing that the Kenneth is only .02 inches wider than the shield plus. I’d love to take a caliper to the Grips. I know a lot of measurements taken only go the width of the slide, but that’s not the only thing that determines how comfortable a Pistol is to Carry.
You do a good job on reviewing your guns but when you compared the canik the the mnp shield you didn't mention the pinky extension for the canik on the 12 round mag which gives you a 3 finger grip.
If you get a ported barrel which is available on the Shield Plus Performance Center model you will notice less recoil. I have the 4" ported barrel & it is a soft shooter compared to my non ported barrel of my P365XL. But I like that as well, but have had to send it back twice now to Sig with dead trigger issues. Only got a few hundred rounds through it before the trigger broke again.
I'm totally a "Buy American" person when I possibly can. My money is going to the new FN "Reflex" that just was announced a few days ago. Initial reviews look very good. While it looks like Canik finally has a very good conceal carry pistol, their previous small compact was a chunky top heavy gun, with a slide that seemed needlessly wide and heavy. Sure, the MC9 will be cheaper, and I'm not rich, but I've been very satisfied with Smith and Wesson, and FN pistols. I'll pay a little more, to help keep jobs here. Please don't flame me. As badly as the current administration is deconstructing our economy in about every possible way, I'm more concerned about American jobs than I ever have been. I don't criticize anyone that buys a Canik or Glock, or other foreign made pistol. You do whatever is best for you. I have a G43 and a G48 myself. It's because they are perfect for me. I do have a G19 made in Atlanta Georgia.
Absolutely. Strong American companies make a strong America and support our freedoms. Splitting hairs on minute differences makes no sense if one looses the freedoms to have guns. Ain't hyperbole, it's happening. Supporting turkey does squat for America, and actually hurts America. Truth. I want to be proud of my gun, as much as I want to be proud of my country. Holding a Turkish made gun gives me none of that. Quite the opposite, it detracts from it. If canik builds a factory here and hires Americans, like many have, then maybe. At least it isn't a total negative then.
So the M&P Shield Plus wins hands down. There’s no question! Canik makes a fine pistol, but it has yet to prove it’s on the same level as Glock, S&W or HK. I know there is no shortage of Canik clowns who will come swarming demanding their gun is as good or better, but it’s simply not true. Nice triggers! Good ergonomics. Feels solid and good shooters, but the jury is still out until the guns are actually put through a professional military testing program and used by professionals for years.

I have them both. Love them both but need to get more rounds through my MC9. I EDC my plus and will add the mete to the rotation. Pushed the Hellcat to the side. I carry all with the 15 round extended mags and they conceal well
I like the shape and width of the shield plus. It conceals better and fits my hand better. The shield plus shoots perfectly. Shame walther wont make a smaller micro pdp. The caniks are all just walther clones but theyve put enough of a twist on them their own. I love my tp9 sfx.
Walther needs to make a micro 9 yesterday
@@dtps_champion6016 so does H&k.
Yes, a known " Track Record " is and should be extremely important.
@@TheForbidden_1ne Every micro pistol is snappy.
I really like my mc9 but I like the shield plus too.
Great review! Thank you
I have a Shield Plus and love it.
One point you didn't mention is that the canik will accept the full size canik mags in the MC9.
You gonna carry it like that?
I wouldn’t carry it like that but it would diffently make for some good back up mags
Canik Mc9 is really nice, trigger sensitivity is perfect, I bought one, I am very pleased.
Why everyone treat the Hellcat like a stepchild😂
The S&W M&P Shield Plus is a great pistol, but the Canik METE MC9 Micro is greater 😉
Saw a deal on line for the Plus, $439, included 5 mags, night sites and some extra doo dad's.
is the deal still going? where did you see it. Thanks.
2 shield plus owner here. Zero issues through 3k rounds. The gun got evern nicer after 1k rounds. A little smoother to rack.
Can leave the slide locked open to loosen them up too
I just purchased the Mc9 can’t lie I’m a sucker for great value and extras !
Shot and love the M&P haven’t shot the Mete yet but the M&P shoots better than the Canik TP9 I shot.
Very good comparison video, thank you very much.
picked up my plus for 399 today. Canik was actually 50 dollars more and the stippling on the plus was the determining factor for me. I felt like my purchase on the gun was so strong and secure compared to the canik.
Shield Plus was $399 in Atlanta yesterday, optics cut was 460
I have the PC S&W Shield Plus ported 4" & love it.
I would like to see a comparison between the METE and G26. G26 is my carry firearm.
Build quality is the most important to me
A real comparison thank you (not a lot of unnecessary target shooting footage)
Shield 🛡 Plus made in USA ✔
Shield 🛡 Plus less expensive ✔

Shield 🛡 Plus more accessories and support✔
I own both guns. My Shield plus is my current edc and love it. Haven’t been able to take my MC9 out yet but can’t wait.
I just don't see anything compelling about the MC9 to make me want one vs. my Shield Plus.
Okay?
Your comment would make sense if you didn’t own either.
Have you ever shot a Canik?
@@glennmcgee6705 No, but I've seen a lot of good reviews
@@synystur21 if I didn't already a Shield Plus, the Canik might be a great option.
Great reviews.
The Canik also has the loaded chamber indicator!
You did forget to mention that the MC9 optic system
Is “direct mount”… no plates or spacers necessary..
I’m not using a plate on my shield plus with the defender CCW but that may vary optic to optic.
A plate is still recommended because direct mounting will not give you the recoil studs that the plate has on them.
The MC9 groups are way better than the shield.I had a shield its a good,
but now a days there’s more of selection and variety
Sig P365XL all day. That said, I’d probably go with the Shield plus between these. I am interested in the new FN reflex
Lol.. overpriced rust buckets
Great comparison. Would love to see a comparison between the Mete MC9 and the new FN Reflex.
A Freedomsmith trigger removes most of the pre-travel in the Canik trigger. About 80 bucks. I've installed 2 on my Canik range guns.
I Bought a S&W 9mm Shield plus for $399.99 new. I love it.I also have a S&W 9mm Shield. After upgrading the trigger it shoots as good as my Shield Plus. I am keeping both.
How did you upgrade your trigger
Pretty much shot or dry fired them all. Been carrying a Shield since first it came out. Excellent carry choice.
Thanks for the excellent comparison. I'd love to see what you have to say about a comparison between the MC9 and a P365, largely because they're so different and how much do the pros or cons outweigh one another in both directions.
Both the canik mc9 and the shield plus are better than the p365. I sold my p365 because it doesn't feel good in the hands and the trigger sucks.
@@Shenmue06 P365 XMacro is the best micro 9 I've fired.

Shield Plus takes the trophy. Optic ready; Tritium night sights; 10, 13, and 15 round mags; lots of holster options. Shield Plus for the win!!!
Or you can buy a IWI Masada Slim and has 13 +1 with a flush mag and have 3 finger contact. Mine is 5 months old and flawless with zero malfunctions with 1,600 rounds through it.
I agree
@@randallbowman7899 I have all of the micro compacts from the Taurus GX4 to Sig P365X & XL and everything in between except the Canik. I have no interest in the Canik, they're all ammo picky and I've sold all of mine..They do shoot accurately though. I also don't like the ergos of Canik.

Picked up my two tone MC9 for 390. You just get more for your money with the Canik.
It definitely does. Kind of a dumb design
Black Cat Works. A $7 fix. I have one on my tpc elite SC. Fits and feels great in my hand.
I do agree it's a dumb design. No idea why they have that gap there. Serves no purpose that I can see.
@@innkeeper6 It's either just for looks, or they didn't wanna the extra production cost of more material 😌
The Shield plus is my EDC, I love it and it shoots great. I have been wanting the Canik meta mc9 but a few days ago I started seeing videos on the FN reflex and I’m going to get it instead.
I have the METE SF and like it but it is a bit big to EDC. The major disadvantage of the Canik is the aftermarket support (holsters are limited).
Aftermarket is getting better
M&P Shield Plus for me.
Both for me 🎉❤
My shield plus XoX after a month with a popped out slide lock pin, and my MC9 XoX the very first day with a ripped recoil spring. Waiting for the parts now, hope they will return to me fine
From videos, the Canik appears to be a tweener: larger than a micro but smaller than a subcompact. I believe the term is "Internet inches." Probably best to compare in person. Certainly a good value in any case.
Great choice for someone who wants a do all handgun. Very versatile.
The bore axis appears to be the biggest difference between the two.
Canik fails due to jamming problem! Canik should have been recalled!
They do it on purpose like the sc. It makes it easier to conceal
If its that close....id much rather support S&W than turkey!
Keep telling my friends this MC9 is crazy, its above my expectation itried to compare my kimber to this canik. That trigger is genuis👌🏼
Mete is what I got!! Love it!!
I have the shield and the shield plus
I have never had a problem, both have run at 100 percent
I would bet my life on smith and wesson
The only difference in width is at the slide stop/ release. It’s the widest point of the pistol, and it blows the Shield away in ease of operation.
It may be slightly scaled down, but it is the same ambi slide stop. Having owned a Shield also, I can positively say that it actually works as a slide release.
Both are 1.1 inch
The only reason why I haven't gotten a Shield Plus is because the lack of an accessory rail and forward slide serrations.
Get the Equalizer. Has the lemon squeeze and better slide serrations.
@@Davyw95 noo thank u
Shield optic ready with night sights is 400-450 everywhere. Street price of course. MSRP doesn’t mean much thankfully.
The Canik is definitely suffering from more reliability issues when looking around the web. My own MC9 has mag ejection issues.
I've experienced those issues and at least one more. Contacted Canik. They said the gun needed to go back to them and sent me a form. Filled it out and emailed it back with the list of issues I've been having, expecting to receive a RA number. Crickets. I've put 362 rounds through the MC9 so far, all gr's and multiple brands.

The Canik does come with a magazine base extender. Not sure if the M&P does.
You do a good job on reviewing your guns but when you compared the canik the the mnp shield you didn't mention the pinky extension for the canik on the 12 round mag which gives you a 3 finger grip.
Im on the Fence after trying both!!! Shield is Nice!! Mete MC9 is Nice!!! Mete Better Trigger! Still on Fence!!
What did you decide?
If price wasn’t a factor which one would you choose? And did you notice a difference in recoil impulse?
If you get a ported barrel which is available on the Shield Plus Performance Center model you will notice less recoil. I have the 4" ported barrel & it is a soft shooter compared to my non ported barrel of my P365XL. But I like that as well, but have had to send it back twice now to Sig with dead trigger issues. Only got a few hundred rounds through it before the trigger broke again.
Thank you
Major comparison, I own the shield plus performance center, I do not own this particular Canik. I have a few of the full size
I'm totally a "Buy American" person
when I possibly can.
I get what your saying but FYI if it's American jobs that sway u canik is actually building a factory in Florida
