Ryan O’Neal, who kicked off an extraordinary 1970s run in Hollywood with his Oscar-nominated turn as the Harvard preppie Oliver in the legendary romantic tearjerker Love Story, has died. He was 82. O’Neal died Friday December 8, 2023.. He had been diagnosed with chronic leukemia in 2001 and with prostate cancer in 2012.

Ryan tries to affect a proper accent on the words he is using like "quite, possibly, and indeed". When the interviewer is talking to Ali he is bored until the focus is back on him.

I think she was confused with the interviewer's absolutely pathetic questions, not at Ryan whom she was then, and has remained close friends with to this day! Worst interview ever!

Why does the reporter laugh when Ryan says he enjoyed the movie but it made him sad because his character loses the one he loves?Of course he was serious.Most viewers would share the same sentiment upon viewing the film.

I think Ryan is showing his dislike for Parkinson by trying to ignore him by looking at Ali so directly. When he is called out by Parkinson I think he realized he went too far and didn't want to come across as an idiot. He then got it together. Maybe justified by what I have heard about "Parky".

She gained an international profile for her role in the film Love Story (1970), for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama. Is it just me or does anyone else think the same when Ryan said "I lost the woman I love" he truely was indicating to and about Ali (that he loved her) The way he looked at her through the interview should that he is very much still in love with her.
I think it was purely about him trying to get the attention.

The trouble is it wasn't real, he's not capable of the love that should back up that kind of look. There has to be substance or the look is nothing but acting; depicting lust, nothing more.
This man couldn't be faithful to one of the most beautiful woman of Hollywood, Farrah Fawcett. He just couldn't do it. Lust is not the same as love.

And they have remained very close friends even now so he mustn't have been too awful with her. But yes, the interview was very awkward, mainly because of the ridiculous interviewer's questions!!

Before the 80's men were differently more boyishly masculine with their own sense of themselves and their inherent roles, and duty to their masculinity was yes as an important part of the equasion.
Today they seem to be lacking in that role. They expect women to do all the work. I think the lunacy of love hit them both, and Ali was more secure in her marriage to Segal and holding back because of it.
Interestingly after the movie went so far, that marriage ended.
But the roles Ali and Ryan played never did. Admitedly today, they say they will always feel love for eachother; an immortal love.

I was fortunate enough to see both of them in a touring production of "Love Letters" in Baltimore a few years ago. They were still great together.

After they made the movie how could they not love each other.. They romanced one another and it was real. Both are extremely attractive, it must have been such fun to be with one another in this film the kissing, hugging, and Passion.

I went to college at the same time as the movie in the trade school down the street from Harvard, and I remember that era so well, it seems like a week has passed. Time has a strange elastic quality where 5 minutes can seem like an eternity and 50 years can seem like a week. First loves can also be remembered vividly across half a century.

Ryan is obviously nervous. He looks like he wants to rekindle their on screen relationship. She had been a gift of being a very empathetic actress. She knows how to give comfort to her male leads. Once the picture is over, she goes back to her knight. That’s what we are seeing between AM and RO. However, Ryan may want Ms MacGraw, but look who he finally labeled as his “true” love, Farrah Fawcett. Ali and Farrah are polar opposites.
Let’s talk about Ali’s choice in men: 1. Hubby who was a Harvard grad in finances 2. Robert Evans, head of Paramount Studios. 3. Steve McQueen: most notable talent at the time.
She speaks of meeting both Evans and McQueen and falling instantly in love. I believe she is initially ATTRACTED to powerful men.
Her home life included an alcoholic abusive father. I see the connection between father and love interests as choosing men that will kill the dragon for the princess. The princess rewards her knight with undying love.
In The Getaway, SM treats her mechanically like AM is his daughter. She responds to this by falling for her “father.” Later she would say SM was an alcoholic. Then she becomes the alcoholic to put up with these unvented feelings for both SM and her own father.
Parkinson misses the point. When Ryan said 'Me', he was joking that Ali liked that he was in the film, but Parkinson took it that Ryan wanted a question. What a schoolboy error.
Ryan chose a drug addict and alcoholic for a wife...a broken woman...so she is a big part of the family misery...but of course he gets all the blame.
If you are talking about 1st wife Joanna Moore, that's correct. She did as much or more damage to their children because she had custody, and was unable to stay sober. He seems narcissistic, as he just seemed unable to be supportive of them, and put himself first. But whether he has NPD, only a doctor could know this clinically, after being around him a long time. But Farrah was a clean living, athletic, joyful person. Ryan himself had the self awareness and insight to say publicly that her being with him, and involved with his highly dysfunctional relationship with his kids through the years , brought stress to her life, and could have contributed her to illness. But her sister also died of ca in her 60s.
Why Ryan is staring at Ali during the interview ? This movie is one of my favorite and love the music made by Francis Lai
