    I have watched 5 episodes. As someone who has played for many decades, I admit that I've learned something new in each lesson. Scotty is a good teacher, and very thorough with his explanations. Yes, I could have used this instruction many years ago, but I'm delighted to be going through it now. Thanks for making this available, Scotty.

      I've been playing for many years as well and thought when I first started that I could just skip these first few videos, but have also found that I'm also learning something with each lesson. Could not agree more that Scotty is a great teacher.

      Exactly one of the reasons I enjoy watching well made beginner/intermediate lesson series, there’s always something new to pick up. Scotty’s method is by far the best I’ve experienced to date.

    Love this reverse engineering method for figuring out chord voicings and use of the chord matrix. Definitely a lightbulb moment💡🎸I've decided to transfer the digital version of this series to VHS and started looking around for a VCR so I can have the full experience as it was intended in 1999.

    Students have to realize that some of these lessons are about an hour long to view, but are going to take a lot of hours of practice and study before you can go to the next lesson. I’m an intermediate player and I viewed up to lesson 5 so far and that’s a lot for a beginner starting from zero knowledge. Many months of practice.
    I’m looking for a good lesson course to pass on to my 11 grandchildren. These lessons seem to be laid out well so far and are very informational. Learning to play guitar or any instrument is a lifelong, rewarding experience. It’s way worth the effort. Enjoy the experience and don’t give up.

    Hello Mr.West! First thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, it is very much appreciated 👍 your teaching style is perfect for me!
    Is there a purpose in continuing with the following lessons until we have mastered these chords and the theory aspect?
    Seems like you have presented everything a intermediate player would know.
    Some perspective, I've played for about a year with open chords, basic versions of songs and learning "riffs" and generally being lost with only the most very basic theory.
    Thank you again!

      Hi Ian, Glad you're enjoying the course. To answer your question, you don't need to master a particular lessons content before moving on. Take chords for example. It's going to take you months to master all these chord shapes and be able to switch between them quickly. You don't want to wait all that time before going on to the next lesson. get a basic understanding of the subject and develop a practice routine for yourself. You can always come back and review the lessons get the details down.

    How do you play a Power chord in C form? 😮

    • @absolutelyunderstandguitar60
      @absolutelyunderstandguitar60  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Excellent question. You could ask the same about the G form. Actually there is a way but is is like never used. When you get to later lessons about INTERVALS, this will become more clear. But lets say you want to play a D5 in the C form. Miss your low E string. Put your pinky on the 5th fret on your A string. Mute your D string. Put your index finger on the 2nd fret on your G string. Put your 3rd finger on the 3rd fret on your B string. Mute your high E string. It's just so much easier to play 5 chords in the E or A forms that nobody uses the C or G forms.

      From lesson 1 he mentions music is a language. So with any language you have to learn the basics. I went 11 months essentially just learning where to put my fingers without much real reasoning other than it made the sound I want. That’s like saying a sentence and not understanding what it means. Maybe that sentence says the right things/the things others want to hear but wouldn’t you be more satisfied if you personally really understood what you were saying/playing. Or understand it so much you can add more than what you just memorized to display more nuance and creativity. Theirs a difference between saying “the cat went up the tree” and actually picturing in your head what that even means, and picturing it instantly.

    • @Sawyer-mr8bf
      @Sawyer-mr8bf 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Not to mention if you objectively look at music as a language, like Scotty says, it is soooo much simpler than let’s say English or pretty much most popular spoken languages. We are incredibly lucky for that lmaoooooo
