    I can relate to your story. My little sister was in foster care because of issues involving drugs. Eventually, she came to live with us and was adopted. When I’m older, I definitely want to foster.

    We're new foster parents too :) we even had a shower of love where we celebrated the decision and shared a lot of information we learned in training , hopefully preventing any awkward questions in front of the children. It really is a beautiful way to grow a family and we wanted our family and friends to see that it is just as worthy as biologically growing a family and keeping families together is so special . We are waiting for a placement and it's already such a growth experience. Can't wait for updates

    Thank you what you do. It warms my heart. I know how important it is.
    I was fostered since the day I was born in 1957. My parents were the best that could happen. The official adoption took 15 years because the birth mother had disappeared. By then I asked the court to change my name officially and he granted full adoption. It was a happy day because my parents got the official recognition they so deserved.

    Found your channel today, loving it! Thank you. My wife and I are starting the foster to adoption process. First home visit from a worker was last night. Lots of paperwork but so interesting! Anyway, I am a physically disabled adult, was homeless in 2015, and now own a home with my wonderful wife. As a kid I bounced between living with my mom and my dad and never really feeling like I had a "home". I do have an 18 year old daughter so I have some experience as a parent. I am hoping that experience and my experiences as a child of a split home and having a disability will help give me a different perspective. Anyway, I'll be binge watching your videos!!!

    Wow. I can't believe they don't pay for daycare for foster kids. Maybe it's because the need is so great, but in WV daycare and healthcare is completely covered until the child is adopted.

    • @BeTheVillageCommunity
      @BeTheVillageCommunity  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Meadow Rae yeah, I’m not sure why... I think the younger kids get fostered anyway with families that have one parent at home so it isn’t an issue. That’s amazing that WV covers those costs! I wish Ohio did. Thank you for watching and sharing :)

      @@BeTheVillageCommunity I know we have a lot of systems in place for discounted daycare, anyway since our state is so low income. It is very rare that a parent is able to stay home in this state unless the spouse makes the ridiculous commute to VA where the good jobs are. Maybe that's why? I thought it was a consistent thing, but it really does vary from state to state.

    We were also approved/licensed as of 2/28/19 and are waiting for placement. We have a slightly different path as we are going through the foster-to-adopt meaning that adoption is our ultimate goal. We have inquiries out about several children and are waiting for responses and we have also had a TON of "no, you aren't a good match" and that also stings. I have known I would one day adopt since I was 12 years old and it's so close I can taste it. Good luck on your journey and I am so glad your channel was shared with me. I can't wait to see more of your videos. :)

      We were foster parents in PA and in our specific area, they would sign every person up for fostering even if the desire was only to adopt. We just wanted to adopt, got pressured into fostering and realized quickly the agency never was going to allow us to adopt. We were too good of a home and with just 2 biological boys and extra bedrooms and 2-3 beds per room...they saw a goldmine far as spots to sleep kids. We ended up bailing on adopting from foster care and ultimately ended up adopting 4 kids from China. We still are considering adopting straight from foster care or domestically an older child or even going back to China...but much as I had wished things could have been different for us. I loved the kids in foster care, I could not keep being told no. They always discouraged us from looking at any older waiting children because they needed us to stay foster only. Quite sickening truthfully. Doing Foster Care is wonderful, but if the intent is to adopt only, no family should be forced to foster only when we told them we wanted to adopt only. Especially since we wanted to adopt older kids not babies. Just sad.

      @@erinaa9486 I learned fast when I talked to AdoptAmerica, that PA is one of the worst states to try to adopt kids from Foster Care. PA is excellent far as benefits for kids who have medical needs and for gaining access to services, etc. But to adopt them is a nightmare because Fostering is badly needed here, they want that more. Though, I talked to tons of agencies who place foster kids and they screamed at me on the phone when I inquired about foster care adoption. All but 2 agencies actually talked to me and gave me information about it. The rest told me every reason why it was a bad idea stating how damaged the kids are, on and on. I figure they were weeding out people who truly would not be able to handle it...but in my honest opinion, still...screaming at a person inquiring seems evil to me. And to call kids, damaged...oh my gosh. I was furious. Yes, I have seen first hand, what a child can be, the damage they come with from trauma, neglect, etc...BUT the kids are not trash. They do come with baggage, sometimes so severe they will never get better. But the minute you say, you are broken, you are damaged...what message does that kid hear? I am worthless, I am nothing, I do not matter. I grew up with wonderful parents, but I had health issues, my Mom alwats said, oh your sick....and despite her loving me...I carried that label my whole life and STILL fight sickness. Words ars powerful...speaking life and death. Foster kids do not need to be labeled, they need to be loved. Yes, some will be damaged as they say...I am not blind, I have seen it with my own eyes and its heartbreaking. But to speak those words over them, they will never know they dont have to stay that way, that they have a choice to change THEIR lives as they enter adulthood. No one has the right to destroy another person, degrade them and choose for them a title that will stay with them all of their lives. Speaking life always is the best way to give everyone a chance at life.

    When my 2 bio boys were 10 and 12 we began foster care, we did that about 2 years. When my boys were 13 and 15 (in 2012) we began the process to adopt from China. We then adopted an almost 3 year old in 2013, a 2 1/2 year old in 2015, a near 5 year old in 2017 and a near 9 year old a few months ago in 2019. We still are seriously considering adopting again, either from the USA or Internationally again. Our six kids are now almost 23- 5 years old!!! I never thought I would have a big family, but any way to grow a family is awesome. We love adoption so much, we chose to end the biological option after our second adoption 😁 Thank you for showing you dont need to wait to foster, to adopt, etc...

      Lisa B. I’m not sure where in the US you are, but I’ve noticed there are a lot of teens in the US who need a family before they age out, so maybe consider going with a USA Teen?

      Lisa B. I saw another comment from you, are you still in PA (fellow Pennsylvanian:) )? I stalk to AdoptPA Kids website at least once a month (not yet old enough to foster, I just like to see who’s not on the page anymore)

      @@Polopony20. Yes I am still in PA, may leave eventually though...but only God knows! 😁 I do occasionally look at state and usa foster care kids available for adoption. Since we have adopted from China now 4 times, that still is our best avenue to adopt kids. But ya, I would love to adopt domestically. An older child too. But, am I actively stalking the foster adoption site like you, no. ☹I do though stalk RainbowKids site!!! 😁
