Cape Breton island, Your Heart will Never Leave
In the planning stages now for a motorcycle (ADV Bike) trip from Florida up into New England & Canada with Halifax being an overnight stay & my turn around point. I am no hurry to leave Canada as there is so much to see & do. In my research one of many things I have come across is this Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island & I plan on doing the entire 185 mile loop. I cannot wait. I hope its a sunny day with a temp of about 55 to 60 F. I'm 72 (yoa) so its never too late & one is never too old - GO OUT & DO IT.
This ad is one of the few tourist ads that actually understates the beauty of the destination.

Just came from there last week after visiting the girlfriend's family and touring around. What a great trip. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and highly recommended.

If you have never been here for this drive it is worth it, the most scenic beautiful place I have ever been. If you have done it before then do it again as it never grows old.

I just drove the Cabot Trail, yes it has moments of idyllic and picturesque sea-to-cliff scenery and beauty, more than the PCH in California or the US 17 into Florida or the Highlands in Scotland, but much fewer than the drive through the BC Rockies or the Angeles National Forest or the one-of-a-kind drive on Route 66 or US 80. Still, I enjoyed the whole route and missed my exit at Margaree Forks....
If you ever get the chance to return, try doing the drive in a clockwise manner and you'll find it an entirely different experience! I've done both directions myself and found that starting in Margaree and finishing at Englishtown or St Anns is 100X more scenic! Like yourself, the first time I drove the Cabot Trail was counter clockwise and my impressions were modest at best. On a subsequent trip to the area, a local resident suggested I drive the Cabot Trail. Politely declining, I gave them an honest opinion of my first experience and they knew immediately that I "drove it the wrong way"! Eventually I was convinced to give it another chance and I'm glad I did, I've done it a dozen times more since!

I was born in Sydney, Cape Breton. The island is the most beautiful place on Earth. It's a great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

No jobs? All that means is there is less opportunity to be a "wage slave". Not poking fun at anyone here, there are plenty of resources and money, lots of multi million dollar yachts and mansions, but the money just isn't for the commoners, we live in a society of scams.
Buy sooner rather than later because like everywhere else, demand and prices are rising! I know around my one farm just outside Marion Bridge, a lot of the listings are being snapped up by German, Austrian and Swiss nationals retiring there! Don't worry about property taxes, just make sure it's zoned properly! For example, I have 70 acres of land with 1km of river frontage, but I only pay $30/year in property taxes because its zoned as "Forest Resource"!
I am in Alberta, and most of my relatives besides 4 cousins live in Cape Breton. In the Glace Bay and Sydney areas. It is nice to vist during the summer cause its warm enough to swim!

Looks very nice from the air but was disappointed from the car view...some nice spots but not what we was expecting. We came from Newfoundland first and it was stunning. You have to hike the trails here to see most of the views I believe and our party could not walk that far so missed some of the views.
