    Hi Edward and Simona, Thanks for you comment. The lower numbers in a print run are more sought after because they are closer to the artist's original work. Repeated printmaking can distort the original image as found in large print runs with high numbers. Inks are not always richer as you get farther into a print run since many distortions, mistakes, etc. can take place in large print runs as multiple prints are reproduced.

      Hi Dr. Lori. I am a big fan! I do want to mention about the prints. I have worked in a gallery and also a printer. A lot of, if not most prints are printed as a giclee print. The ink is strong in the first print as well, like say, print number 1,000. We have printed many artists since the early 2000s using this technique and you can't tell which is the first or last print in an edition.

      Good point. Remember, most of the prints I see are from circa 1550 to the present.

    Edward/Simona makes a good point about the process of lithography. A good technical expert on lithography is the artist's and the collector's best resource.

    The better litho prints are achieved after the first several are printed...ink gets richer. This process is different from others...yes eventually the plate or stone needs to be refreshed but can run 100s before noticeable change...and can be used on different occasions if the plate is stored properly. It looms like the original frame but the brown paper has been removed and there is old looking cardboard backing g and nails in the frame .it does have a wire hanger .

    So, there must be a basic formula, as a guideline to establish where each print in the run should fall value wise. How does the value drop or by what calculation? Print 1/100 will obviously be worth more than 59/100...is there a gradual factor for valuation based on this or does it drop exponentially more later on in the run?

    my boss has a lot of prints, why do they have the artist's name on it twice? They have the artist's signature in the 'regular' place, bottom right...but also over on the left side, in a different color..

    • @DrLoriV
      @DrLoriV  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Prints are often signed by the artist and the printer. So you may have a print with two different artists' names on the same print. The artist signs a print to note his/her creative work and the printer signs his/her name to indicate his/her production work. Sometimes there are latin terms next to these names like pinx or sculp along with artist's names too indicating the printer or the artist working on the printed plate. Learn how to tell a print from a poster and other info on my website.
