- Donington Park will be known by many racing fans outside of the UK as the venue that in 1993 saw one of Ayrton Senna’s greatest ever drives in the wet. It so nearly held another Grand Prix in 2010, but this failed to materialise. I’m not convinced Donington Park would be the perfect track for modern Formula One anyway, it’s too small and narrow to provide serious overtaking opportunities. However, when you look past Formula One and towards something a little bit smaller and slower, this track is set up perfectly for exciting, close racing.
It’s one of those rare circuits where you can run side by side for half of the lap, switching positions corner by corner and constantly aiming for cutbacks. It also has one of the best sections of track anywhere in Europe from the run out of turn 1 to the run back up the hill after Old Hairpin. You need commitment, you need confidence and you need perfect timing to nail this section. It also has one of the best spots for spectating to go with it, a real dream for racing fans and drivers alike.
When learning the circuit on ACC, the main thing to focus on is patience in the second half of the lap and precision in the first. Here are some lap time targets for you to have a go at beating:
Pro : 1:25.20
Pro/Am : 1:28.50
Am : 1:32.00
My Laptime : 1:25.70
Take in what you can, fire up ACC and get back out there to experience this fantastic circuit.

Learning this one for LFM this week! I always try to learn the tracks myself and once I start getting some consistency I always go to your videos to find out where I can improve. Thank you as always!
Best of luck with the LFM race! And I'm very glad you are finding the guides helpful 🙂
# me too
i was getting around 31.2 lap times before i watched this. after i used some of the tips u gave i did a 30.2 im still trying to learn all the braking points and lines but this video really helped
Great stuff!
well done. ++ on the reference lap times at the end. new sub!
John - your lap guides are just superb. Thank you. And am I the only person who loves the onboard sound the curbs make as you run over them??
The attention to detail with the sounds was the first thing I noticed about acc when I played it, fell in love with the game based on this attention to detail and never looked back! Really appreciate the comment, thanks Mark 😊
I'd rather feel it in the wheel, rather than just hear it though?
Found the guide very helpful! ☺ Glad to see others here are reporting similar lap times to me 😅
I did a 1:31:1 in the Porsche on practice using a keyboard and mouse, also it was done on the aggressive preset. This guide helped me, Thanks!
Glad we could help!
Good content
i just did my first few laps on this track yesterday and got 30.1, now i did 28.9, thanks for the guide John
Great news, you are very welcome!
Great guide, if i struggle at this circuit I am going to blame the last corner, no matter where I loose time
It’s so frustrating isn’t it? Thanks very much!
Thank you for the tips. Been struggling with T1 and The last corner but hopefully with this video I’ll be able to go faster
I managed to go 1.4 seconds faster and got a 1:30.5 in a Porsche idk if that’s a good lap time or not in the race. I did have a full tank of fuel tho too
On a full tank of fuel, that's a very decent time! It's also hugely dependant on conditions, so cooler temps will lower laptimes by a reasonable amount. Good effort and glad the tips helped! 😄
Watch loads of these tracks guides, really helpful. Just one question are these times relative to a controller setup? Any help would be grateful
The only thing is Snettertton is so much more a bumpy track so the suspensions/ride height may be different. I'm no expert though.
Don't forget to use the exit curb!
I realllly wish we just got a national layout of this track as it flows so much nicer than the tacked on grade 1 circuit chicane and double hairpin
I made a 26.6 2 days ago, usually my best is arround 27.2 and lap time mid-high27 and some low 28. But from there is soo dificult to improve a single ten. Everything is in T1, T4, and chicane. The last break also is a nightmare, almost impossible to do it 2 times same in a row XD I really don't know how I made that 26.6 XD (28ºC track). Also T7 is super slipery! And I need improve the speed on T8.
Is this a GT3 car?
I was squeezing the lap on this track (shorter national cup version) for days with Carerra GT3 and still was behind the leaders for more than 3.5".
Can you tell more details about the setup?
Springs, camber, balance rod, wing, braking force(with no ABS)?
Thanks
Can you share your setup with the McLaren please?
It has understeer from hell and I can't get rid of it. Actually stuck at 1:28,0. My setup (modified Coach Dave) from Silverstone isn't working at all.
I use the aggressive setup and only change mechanical/ dampers and aero with CD Q03 version
Don’t touch TOE etc. Only pressures on that page
Most of all tracks I'm doing correct gearing and cornering but still always 6-8s behind videos times....can't understand what I'm doing wrong
1.31:7 with ferrari/coach dave setup.
i swear to god i can't get that angle he has in t1 it's driving me insane
😸✌🏻
