  • This video outlines the process of accessing fault codes stored in the ECM of early 90's Mitsubishi Montero vehicles that have an illuminated check engine lights. Fault codes can indicate a possible problem in a computer control system and give important information about related systems and a beginning point for diagnosis. This procedure involves the use of a volt meter instead of an expensive proprietary scan tool. Please watch this video for more helpful information. Thanks for watching!

    You're the man. I needed to check my 1989 Dodge Raider (same as a Montero) and the Haynes manual had me looking for this connector behind the friggin radio. I did have to pull the glovebox door though but it was still behind and up there.

    Bro, I got this exact ride except mine is a manual. I live in Anchorage. Surprised I haven’t seen yours running around, they kinda stick out. I love it. Can drive anywhere, summer or winter. Bought it from a lady who lives above Goldenview, up Rabbit Creek rd, that’s how I knew it was capable of going when it’s get rough out there.

    Thanks for this- I have a 1990 montero and a 1991 montero both with check engine lights on. I used digital tester- I get no pulsing voltage in either car connecting to the DLC port... both read .06 volts and can waiver up to .1, but mostly is fixed on .06. Any suggestions? I put the positive of the tester on the yellow wire and grounded the other to the battery. I drove one for many years and it stopped starting and then fired up the other one about 5 months ago and drive it often and it failed to start yesterday after using it all weekend. It has fuel and turns over normally. Best, Dan

    That's weird. On alot of early OBD1 cars you can short pin A and B on the diagnostic port and the CEL light
    blinks out the code. I love OBD1. So being that Mituz's are not sold there, are they an exotic car when someone see's one? Everyone gets out their camera phones to take a selfie picture with it? lmao

    was wondering if there was a vacuum leak threw intake could it cause a code 42) connectors an wire harness if you block the mass air flow sensor with your hand it causes it to run better so some were there is a mix up with the fuel and air mixture still working on it ( sad it is )

    I have a 91 Montero with a CEL, and when I hook up my voltmeter and turn the key on, it just goes to 12 volts and stays there. Ive tried both types of voltmeters with the same result. Any ideas? Thank you!

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe your on the wrong pin? Should pulse voltage unless theres a short to voltage I guess.

    • @nicconley
      @nicconley 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried running positive to yellow, and negative to battery ground, then read somewhere to run ground to the opposite corner of connector (ecm ground) with the same results. Id love to see a wiring schematic of this thing, but Not one Mitsubishi dealer in the Northwest has technicians that have been there long enough to have worked on OBD1, in fact, a few didn't know what I was talking about!

    still a work in progress ,for some reason I have a high idle the sensors that relate to it seems to be working but on a cold start , the idle is 2 plus but after a worm up it drops down to 1.5 or so , I keep thinking intake leak but no signs in that area ,, hummm do you think I'm missing something else that could cause this problem your thoughts are appreciated and thanks for your help Montero man what a pain its ben ,

  • @wyattoneable

    That's pretty neat Tim. Is there a way to erase a code without a scanner? My local tech did it for me but I thought I wouldn't bother him if I didn't need to.

    • @ThecardoctorTV
      @ThecardoctorTV  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +wyattoneable Sometimes just disconnecting the battery for ten seconds will erase the code but depends on the vehicle. In this case disconnecting for ten seconds will do it. It's worth a try but keep in mind that when you disconnect a battery it also resets any learned values like idle adaptives and can result in drivability issues for the first few miles of driving like stalling.

    In the video I saw as long= .01. For short, I saw 12.11. Can you please explain how the code is 14?

    • @ThePols87
      @ThePols87 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      .01 was long, and then you count how many times the 12.V reading pops up. In this instance, .01 was long, that carries a value of 10. And there were 4 bursts of 12V readings. 10+4=14.
