- Restaurants are fleeing San Francisco at a record speed after the $20 minimum wage increase fast food restaurants have lost 10,000 jobs , in this video. I’m walking all over San Francisco pointing out some of the restaurants that have left including big fast food chains like McDonald’s and KFC.

Astonishing to hear friends, who live there, in total denial about the situation; “everything’s fine”.
I have relatives just outside of downtown San Fran. "Better than its ever been". LOL. That's because what they value is the inclusion, as if San Fran was not inclusive 20 years ago. But you know what they mean. Decadence and filth and drugs has sort of become a hallmark virtue sign for progressive cities and they all covet that.
Hi. And on the flip side, now I know exactly why a friend of mine moved away. We were coworkers back in the late 90’s and kept in touch via snail mail over the years. He said he was leaving and I couldn’t imagine why. It’s really hard to see these images, ones we NEVER wanted to exist. The echoes that are left behind. So sad.
I have some friends and family members like that. They make excuses for all this stuff. They're not politicians and they're not getting paid for it, why carry water for this kind of nonsense? Supporting the destruction of our communities.
Crime, insanity, and squalor are perfectly ok. Everything is fine.
Yeah. They love to blame Covid. When all else fails they blame Trump 😂
Why isn't the mainstream media talking about this? Thanks to Leo for exposing the shocking truth !
Always!
Because the same tribe that did this to San Fran also owns and operates the MSM.
They are talking about the bright future of Newson’s political career, who had met with XIJINGPING.
Mainstream media are communist propagandists!!!! Of course they will never expose this to protect the legacy of dictator newsome its that simple!!
Because they've ALL been bought & paid for. Long time now.. BOUGHT.PAID.FOR
I’m 3rd generation San Franciscan. My great grandparents came from Ireland during the famine.
My father was born in 1903 and survived the earthquake. I was born in 55 ( yes my dad was an old dad).
I lived there until age 5 and we moved because our neighborhood was getting rough, however it was just part of the city. I worked there in the 70’s and 80’s.
It was really nice then . The city was crowded with workers and tourists, it was beautiful, my heart is broken to see it now.
Yep. I was born in San Francisco in the 1970s . My parents migrated to san Francisco in the 60s. It was a booming town and they bought a house in suburbs in San Jose CA. The houses back then were brand new and they cost about 22000 dollars in those days. Look at san Francisco now. It's a dead place.
M6 family long time it's embarrassing
my husband was born in the Presidio Hospital. I have family friends that are 3rd generation as well. Police & Fireman in the City. this makes me sick
I visited a friend of mine in 1989 and lived in Fairfax (her and her husband owned a restaurant in this town) I visited San Francisco and the bay aera and I have great memories in my mind. For a European, this city was an opened door for the USA...Seeing the video from Leo make me sad, really sad !
Did you leave your heart there?
I can’t believe my eyes,I was there in 2012 it was beautiful. How could the people just let the politicians destroy one of America’s most beautiful cities.
still pretty every major city has bad areas
I went to school in the city in 2010/2011, I don’t go over there now unless I have to…
They voted the politicians, didn’t they?

I just came back from Fort Worth, TX and I see NO DESTRUCTION in that vibrant city. People were happy, friendly and smiling. Stores were all open, thriving with people shopping from all walks of life. I went for a visit. to check for future retirement haven planned 5 years from now. I will be moving out of CA once I file early retirement.
Extremely sad but they did it to themselves. I’ve lived in San Francisco twice. Once when my family immigrated here to the states and then again in the mid 2000’s. It was always my favorite city and was vibrant and beautiful. I was back one year ago to visit and the best way I can describe it is you own a house you love but lease it out. They end up trashing the place beyond comprehension to were it’s not repairable and is a total loss.
So sad to see SF go this way. It was a nice city. California - Gone now!
When does the commercial real estate market completely collapse? Landlords and general property owners can't continue to pay off loans and taxes on these properties that are never coming back in my lifetime. Scary where the economy is headed. And when is the last time you saw a major news network cover this total commercial real estate collapse?
They are not going to cover any of this, local media is only going to cover positive news stories, and crime stories only if enough people comprehend but they try to stay away from stories That speak on the city's economic health,...
I mean, it’s happenin’ you are watchin’ it.
Corruption going on. They must be funneling our taxdollars to cover those losses. I'm betting Federal covid relief fund, approved for Democrat owners, denied for others
After the election. After that, watch the regional banks totally collapse and the auctions for high profile buildings will start. Big hedge funds will pay 50% or less for what the buildings last sold at. Bailouts will cause more massive inflation so that might not happen.
I was even thinking about getting a job in the commercial real estate sector, but this is going downhill fast.
With that ocean view and your restaurant is out of business, there's something wrong with the mayor or governor.
BOARDS BOARDS BOARDS!
Taking everything! Tag your it!
That plywood isn't cheap anymore, either! All imported from out of state, so California can save the planet!
CA workers went from $20/hr to ZERO/hr......another democrat success story!
I know the fast food workers and the people who vote these minimum wage increases think businesses just gonna pay it! They just cut hours or replace workers with machines and the total wage cost remains the same. The only losers are the frontline workers 😂 😂 😂
$20 minimum wage translates into $22.50 for a appetizer and $48 for the basic main course.Who can afford it ??
I pass by that restaurant (Louis) near the Cliff house every day on my way to work - there is usually some homeless person sleeping in the doorway. "Gown Now !"
I always tell people: accounting isn't magic. People need to stop taking out their frustrations on small business owners, with insane policies people in California keep voting for. We are ending up dominated by big business that can afford to buy the politicians and can afford to have an army of lawyers looking for loopholes. Small sandwich shops, taquerias, corner stores, can't afford a thing like that, now we end up with no social mobility, no jobs, communities blighted.
They were groomed by fascist communists in school to live communism and hate capitalism and only vote blue. This is the result
wake up people of California and vote every democrat out office before they close every store !!!
We do vote but the poles often close before we get back from the poling booth. Many more conservative people in California than media presets. Our votes are Gone Now! Trust me. I personally know people who are not citizens who have received a ballot to vote starting back in the 80s. This is the long game folks.
@@comeoncents3288 I vote R and absentee....I work all over the state. By the land masses the Rs are dominant. But in the cities......Bra we are outnumbered. I am not sure about the Frauds. I almost didn't want to watch this one because I knew it would depress me, but we gotta support Leo on his documenting of the Fall Of San Francisco...
Charles Phan's Slanted Door restaurant was THE best vietnamese food on the west coast, bar none.
You saw how big that restaurant was, located on absolute prime real SF estate
Charles Phan was one of *the* biggest restaurateurs there...
That man brought in *millions* of dollars in revenue for that city, but the city f*cked him over by delivering a one-two punch of shutting him down over covid and then making construction costs for renovation so prohibitive that he not only closed it permanently but he also closed his other location on Fillmore, AND sold his house there. The man gave SF the giant middle finger and said, "See ya..."
Thanks, Leo, for proving to the SF residents who come on here saying, 🤡 *"Everything's fine!"* that things are NOT fine there. You showed locations all over the city, not just in one area
San Francisco used to be a premiere foodie town. Not anymore...

On my visits to the city over the years, I have eaten at some of those restaurants. It is sickening that California politicians have helped with this decline.
I lived in San Francisco in the late 80's to 1991. I can assure you all that Leo has documented and shown us on this channel about the city makes every part of the city I fondly remember, The Ferry Building, The Embarcadero, The Union Square area, the shops and department stores lining along Market Street past the Powell Street cable car turntable, Mission Street, Geary Boulevard from downtown all the way past the Golden Gate Park, and likely countless several places feel like a dream. Can't believe it feels this bad to stay awake.

We used to hang out at the Cliff House back in the 70s when it was mostly for the locals. Then it got remodeled and turned into a tourist spot. Totally wrecked the place and all of Land's End. So sad
It didn't help the ocean beach area when also Sutro's bath burned to the ground in 1966 and when Whitney's Playland at the Beach was demolished in 1972. That area never recovered from that!!!!!!
I was a little girl when we moved to CA in the sixties because both my parent’s jobs moved here.
California was a paradise! It really was! You could see orange groves and nut trees from the freeways. San Francisco was the best place to visit and shop at Christmas. Ghirardelli Square was full of lighted decorations and Christmas trees! Fisherman’s Wharf was the place to go for a great seafood dinner. Visitors from around the world were seen carry bags of San Francisco Sourdough Bread. Movie theaters, museums, orchestras, operas, live theater- every kind of water sport along the beaches up and down the coast. California had so much going for it. Now, people, and their employers!, are leaving in droves. And the national news is pushing Gavin Newsom for President. Delusional.
Not many small business can say closed for 18 months while still having to pay rent and insurance.
None
My prediction: By June of 2026, seven of every ten buildings that are now vacant will be shelters. The will be dedicated exclusively to single, homeless and drug addicted men.
I hope you are wrong. It’s a huge cost to transition from office to residency. Some engineers say it would be cheaper in some cases to just demolish and rebuild.
That's very optimistic of you. I'd predict worse. First abandoned, then looted, later burnt down. Finally: torn down. That's the way Detroit went. For now they seem to have enough paint to cover the decay. But "June of 2026" seems about right in your prediction...
Summer 2026 is the time that stands out in my mind, too.
That's exactly what will happen. It will turn into a homeless and asylum seeker shelter. Then they will come up with some dodgy scheme to make money from.
That already happens. A lot of the really big mansions in San Francisco are live-in drug rehab facilities. They are the only people who can afford it.
I get so excited now whenever i see a For Lease sign.
I've heard people echoing Gavin Newsom and saying, "But the $20/hr. law is only for LARGE restaurant chains." Well, here is why that doesn't matter: If you have a small restaurant and DON'T pay $20/hr, your employees are going to go to someplace that does! Therefore, $20 is now the BASE WAGE for all restaurants or they will go under because of no staff.
What they fail to understand also is that those "large chain restaurants" are primarily franchises; small business owners paying to use the famous name. So they have to pay for the franchise rights _and_ the $20 min wage. And, they're under contract with the brand and can't easily get out of it.
That is truth -- exactly. And it spreads to other small businesses as well -- "Why should i work for your clothing boutique / book store / candy shop at minimum wage when i can get $20.00 per hour at any fast food outlet!"
Newsome is full of Shit
In a city like San Francisco I imagine anything below $20 is poverty wage.
large restaurant chains are often franchises with small business owners who don't always have deep pockets. Allot of them have very slim margins.

While underperformance is usually the main reason that companies cut locations in California, safety has sometimes played a factor. Both Denny's and In-N-Out Burger said that issues like break-ins, property damage, theft and robberies played a role in their decision to close California locations.

Anyone that believes anything coming out of greasy haired Newsom's office needs to have their head examined. The iron laws of economics dictate when a price of a good or service increases, the demand for that good or service (like minimum wage labor) MUST decrease. It's economic insanity to believe otherwise.

What Leo is showing is the future of many Calif cities. The cost of doing business, let alone live here, is insane. If businesses can't be profitable, they will be "gone now".. Without a tax base, the way of life will continue to deteriorate, creating business waste lands. It doesn't take a genius to see what is coming. Oh yeah, Newsom just gave 700,000 illegal immigrants free health care which will cost the state at least 6 Billion dollars the next year. This will come out of the state budget which is already in a huge deficit. The piper is coming, be prepared to pay a lot more in taxes and stuff.
It’s awful when the small grocery stores disappear. Had one in my neighborhood. Yes it was a little more money for things. I didn’t shop there all the time, but the convenience factor…
Raising min wage just raises the prices of everything overnight
Anyone in Mid-America notice the price of their usual at every other fast food restaurant go up after literally a couple major cities hiked the minimum wage? Back in the mid-late 2010s?
Surprising that CA legislators didn’t investigate the Fast Food Business before the increased minimum wage. They typically make about 7% operating income. You increase ownership wage expenses by 20% and now they’re losing money. Pretty simple math.

They just don’t care!”

That's that restaurant up from the Cliff House. I haven't been back there in 12 years and I'm amazed that that's gone. I lived there for 20 years.
Well it looks like a success. The State cracked the code. With the theory of more. Raise taxes more every year. Raise the level of acceptable crime more. Raise the level of money that it takes to say you actually did something wrong. Waste the taxpayers money more every year. Give yourself more money every year. Eventually you find the breaking point of any business.
And I always taught my city / country is a shithole but seeing your clip and people stealing traffic light. Damn... Been in SF 10yrs ago and alread saw big changes but now ....ufff
