    Being an owner of 2 space watches, the Speedmaster and the Fortis B-42, I dare to say that this Bulova is trully a brilliant watch !
    Excellent review to the point !

    • @vincentvangogh4174
      @vincentvangogh4174 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jeff D I will find out tomorrow - I ordered 20mm Blushark straps and thinner spring bars. With original spring bars I can't fit a nato, gap is less than 1mm.

    • @mountainhobo
      @mountainhobo 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      "Guess what, it's not a dive watch people! " - So what? It's a tool watch, and one that implies wearability in extreme conditions. What is the obsession with diver watches? I don't give a shit about diver watches, but I want a good lume on a field watch, and this sure as hell is one.

    Good review. I'm definitely getting this, it's a nice addition to my Speedmaster. A warning regarding the steel bracelet. They moves the holes for the spring bars on this model so the steel bracelet wont fit.

      @paulmateescu4044 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulmateescu4044 Not really what?
      Nobody knew because Bulova didnt tell!
      A missed goldmine, Bulova could have sold this sooo much if theyd only would have made a deal of it earlier. What a waste.

    • @jigrodrigues
      @jigrodrigues 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@grimmer2005 I believe that prior to 2014 nobody really knew the astronaut had used the bulova. They knew it was privately issued but not used. And it is really hard to tell in the photos because it's very similar to the speedmaster. If they did knew, they really missed the boat and they could even have propelled the brand to a much more elevated status (like omega did all these years).

  • @russm535il

    I LOVE my Bulova ! I purchased two new Omega Speedmasters in the early 1990's both chrono functions stopped on their own w/o touching the pushers a known problem . The dealer let me exchange the Omega for a Breitling Navitimer which has been perfect. I also own a Omega Seamaster diver which has been excellent . Love the Bulova !

    Hey man, FYI the steel bracelet does not fit the non bracelet option. Apparently the holes are drilled differently on the 2 watch variants. I have heard this from multiple sources, including Bulova directly. Sounds very very odd, but apparently true. Would have been best opting for the bracelet option then sourcing the other straps, but I wanted the commemorative box.

  • @acabEA80
    @acabEA80 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I really considered buying one of these, but the 45mm is just way to big for my wrist... I wish Bulova would bring out a smaller version of this watch. It is so gorgous..

    • @mc50992
      @mc50992 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought the same thing but it really doesn't wear as big as it sounds. I think the curved sides or something make it look much smaller than it measures.

    • @ksjdhg
      @ksjdhg 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It actually does wear well on my 6.5" wrist. A lot of what you see is the dial, the lugs fall away nicely and they don't overhang or stick out. 20mm lug/strap width has a nice proportion too.

    • @iain777uk
      @iain777uk 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tried the watch on in my local AD and thought the wears small possibly because its thin?, look very nice on 6.75inch wrist.

    • @PocketUau
      @PocketUau 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got a 6.25 wrist and it wears so ridiculously large it puts my G-Shock to shame. However, I wouldn't regard the way it wears TOO much, the 52mm lug to lug just barely lines up with the top of my wrist and the history, design, movement and quality really outdo the comfort and size IMO.

    • @larsstougaard7097
      @larsstougaard7097 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My problem is more the lug to lug of 52 mm, which is was more like 48-49mm

    The 1/10 second sub dial on my moon watch no longer resets straight up. Apparently an early production problem? Since it does not get daily wrist time, I may just live with it. Keeps excellent time, otherwise.

    • @TheFirstWatch
      @TheFirstWatch  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A great looking watch compromised by that ridiculously large 45mm size, why?? Was that the original size of NASA pilot Dave Scotts personal Bulova watch on the Apollo 15 mission? Also, it seems that the 1/20 second hand baton is not exactly placed dead centre on the dial, the rotation is asymmetrical.

    I'm not sure it's the first private watch on the Moon, IIRC, somebody wore a Rolex GMT to the Moon (but wore it under the pressure suit while on the Moon, so not actually used to tell time there), forgot who, though.

    When I received this I was a little disappointed that the actual second hand in the 9o clock sundial did not have the sweeping motion associated with the movement. The Watch chronograph larger hand and the hand in the 3o clock sundial does sweep but not the actual second hand.
    Still love the watch and the history of Bulova time keeping in the early times of NASA

    I wish Rolex would get with it and consider the GMT Pepsi watches that went to the moon. The Apollo 14 crew all wore the same one together and the GMT went down to the surface with Shepard and Mitchell. Not on the suit of course,but you can see them on their metal bracelet being worn for spacecraft activities,I think it was just for having such a memento and not having to move the issued omegas on and off the suits. Flown to the moon means FLOWN TO THE MOON. Exposed to elements or not.

      I liked the dim lighting.😅 Very nicely presented video. Congrats. Appreciated the pros and cons. The cons were presented constructively, which is nice. Glad you got a condenser mic. Hopefully it has a cardioid pattern. Condenser’s are quite sensitive and can pick up ambient noise more than dynamic mics. But you’ve probably already discovered you need a quiet environment to record in. Thanks and good luck!

    True they were an American company but alas the movement in his watch was swiss. Bulova had not made a chronograph movement at the time and sourced out to a swiss movement. That was part of why NASA kicked them in their balls as there wasn't enough percentage of the watch made in America. Omega had their cases made in America and finished by Hamilton Watch company who also was in America. My bracelet version will be here Wednesday.
