Very nice overview of Tails. While it's a great security-focused distro for people whose privacy profiles range from the mildly-paranoic to the fully tinfoiled, it's worth mentioning that the PC it's running on is still vulnerable to cold boot attacks that can extract data from RAM. So, it might be worth keeping a bucket of water nearby, in case you need a quick way to fry the hardware, before the jackboots kick down your door. And don't forget to chew the USB stick well before swallowing.
Security through obscurity! Tails is good but it's not a drop-in replacement for op-sec. Just to reinforce your point about destroying the thumb drive after it's no longer needed. This point is so important and cannot be overstated. In my past life I was in the navy (with a lowercase "n") and I can tell you first hand what they do with their hard drives when they're no longer needed: they incinerate them. Therefore?
