Ferdinand de Lesseps succeeded in the suez, but failed miserably in the Panama Canal project.

hey, look on the bright side - the voiceover's in English. And there's none of the usual fake drama crowbarred in like most docos these days.
I've got nothing against the French myself, but by the same token if this wasn't dubbed over I'd have shut it off at the start 😅

Interesting, but Iran and the Houthis has now a firm grip on world trade and the old western navys are more like coastguards..The canal has have it's golden days..

This is only effecting about half the ships - the smaller vessels are willing to chance it. The really large container ships are taking the long way around and the supertankers don't fit in the canal anyhow. It is really hurting the Egyptians the most. Fees have been cut by more than 2/3. Iran will feel the pain sooner or later for supporting the attacks. The pull back by the US military is an example of letting the rest of the world take care of the problem as they are the ones effected. Perhaps stupid policy as open sealanes are an essential service for global trade. We shall see.

@@scottwheeler2494 Iran is a bit of a bottomless pit, though. Americans being there just end up getting ridiculed and disrespected at by their own people at home, as always.
They just became another election day talking point to the people who sent them to war.

@@NanashiCAST the US has never had a good policy with regards to Iran. It's a second world nation bordering on first held back only by its government. I have had several friends from Iran over 5 decades. Beautiful people with a long history of being ruled as opposed to being self governed. (This opinion is my own - many in Iran would say that the current rulers are there by choice.) It matters not who is the ruler. So many have come to the US. Our cultural bias has not helped our relationship with the current government. Our many shared beliefs- we are children of Abraham- and shared interests should make it much easier. Why it is difficult could fill several books. Sad.

@@scottwheeler2494 Personally for me from the outside who's never been to Iran, it just basically looked like some kind of perpetual semi-holy war against each other and opportunistic warmongers in costumes to look the part having a big laugh at literally everyone else's expense.
And then Americans are like the very confused dude who just got ninja wedgied and came in randomly swinging a big stick in confusion or something.
Well, I say that but we're on a verge of a muddy slugfest with another opportunistic warmonger here in regards to our self governance and we're also at the mercy of US policy making so I guess we're all having a bad ol' time. :l
