Finally a granular synth video that still sounds like a sampler. I know the GR-1 can get crazy, but most videos on TH-cam are showing how to make a feather sound like super reverb orchestra.
Is it possible to have the grains only trigger at 8th or 16th notes from a midi clock signal? I like the chaotic sound, but having them land "on time" but still at randomized intervals of certain note lengths, would be a powerful tool.
It should be easily possible. Just add a divider function somewhere. Clock->grain sync is only introduced since the most recent firmware, btw. Originally MIDI clock only could drive the LFOs.
It's cool to get this kind of thing out of the box so you can really play with it! I'm curious what would happen if you put some wavetables in here from serum or waldorf. How would it work? Could be a cool video to show us.
I'm not a fan of the envelope crackling I heard on the first sample performance and later on while it was being ambient. Was that because of the "tilt" or something? It would be frustrating in a recording.
It's digital device, so certainly. MIDI controls add an extra dimension. Certainly the Roli type ones. It depends a bit on how harmonic or inharmonic your sample is, though. But it's rather surprising that even inharmonic sounding samples can still be pitched to reasonable effect.
Would be very cool. I'm afraid we don't have a direct drive turntable around. But we'll certainly keep it in mind. The GR-1 allows a form of scratching btw, but it's much more "ambient" than the turntable kind, though ;)
The Octatrack and a couple of other synths offer short sample loops with triggers. The GR-1 can do such things too, but can create dense "clouds" by playing dozens of grains at the same time, instead of just one.
It's being controlled with DIN MIDI. There's an icon showing this in the center top of the display. As for the setup. Maybe be best to conact Maxime. Cheers :)

we'll consider. it's not hard to implement. but the interface will be menu diving. if you're used to the blofeld, you're used to that. but we always want to make it more hands-on.. still, we can do it. maybe in firmware version 1.3. right now 1.2 is being beta tested..

How much RAM does this operate with? Heard in a review that the machine can sweat under heavy use. Such a bummer.
1GB RAM. It can stress out, but there are many ways to avoid that. It depends on if you really need more than 1000 grains.

With thus synth can I load single cycles waves into it as well right and then further shape them? And like on loop the waves?
A lot of those artifacts can be smoothed out for less popping and cracking

We think it's present only in the older firmwares. It happened after switching patches.

you can modulate pitch using the mod matrix. but we're not doing audiorate FM or AM oscillators. would make it a different beast.
