Versatile BJJ Armlock to Counter Opponents Who Crowd Your Full Guard

  • Today's BJJ technique video is from one of my Brazilian Jiu-jitsu classes where I showed one of my favorite setups and armlocks from Full Guard / Closed Guard.
The focus of the setup is to get the person's hand on the mat or on the outside of your body which will allow you to snag the arm and get a catch on the shoulder. From there I show a straight armlock and then transition to corkscrew armbar.
And even if you don't like the techniques shown you can still use the setup for lots of submissions and attacks from full guard.
Hope the video gives you a useful idea to bring into your next training session. And hopefully it helps you secure an extra arm lock or two.

Gonna try this tomorrow. I’m a beginner and been getting stuck when people crowd my guard with heavy shoulder pressure. Thanks Chew love the channel!

Thank your partners for that heavy pressure, from inside your closed guard.
They are helping you to improve your defense, so you don't encounter that pressure for the first time in a parking lot somewhere.
They are giving you sweeps, and submissions...once you learn them, I imagine they will stop driving into you like that, as it really isn't beneficial for them.

This is so good 👍, white belt here and I've definitely been in this position before confused about how to attack. This is very helpful info

I’m a blue belt and use this all the time. Not always a finisher but it opens up a lot of options

this video is awesome. Doing the move is the easy part. Finding ways to actually set it up it the trick. Your video addresses this.

Nice detail about rotating the arm! I'll definitely try this in class since there are so many combos from this position.

Super similar to the aikido pin, cool vid. As an aikidoka and a person that started Taking bjj consistently this year I enjoy seeing stuff like this.

I use this all the time, not always a finisher for me personally but a constant threat from a lot of positions that opens up other attacking options and stops people trying to smother my guard

I do believe that little groove is called the “Snuff box” because that is where people used to sniff/snort tobacco back in the Elizabethan time. But I may be wrong.😀

Easy wrist lock if they are holding your biceps, and if they pull out u can hit an easy shorty armbar sometime on the other side.

Learned this a while ago. 3rd degree black belt near broke my arm in half with it. Kind of expected given that I'm a blue belt haha.

How quick do you have to be when transitioning between that shoulder grip to that finish and rotation of their elbow? Seems like you lose some control over their arm by letting go of the gable grip. Can you keep the gable grip and slide it down their arm or do you need your hands to their arm to get the finish?

Do you ever play Williams guard? This looks like a good submission from Williams.

Yo i have a problem today whit a partner while rolling
So I'm a while bell,I'm doing bjj for almost 5 years now, so this guy is pretty much more bigger then me and usually be go back and forth while rolling but today i catch him whit a kneebar and him instead of just tapping out and keeping rolling he complain that i never do that submission again
I don't think that i put to much strength or do it whit bad intentions i just saw the kneebar and when for it
Probably i did use to much strength on a very technical submission but he defended it wrong by just try to lower his knee with just strength
Now the problem is, if i see this submission again i don't go for it or do it? Because i know for a fact that had the experience to do this type of submission whitout any injuries but then again i dont know if i have to do it

    • @drjimjam1112
      @drjimjam1112 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I’d grant his request. There are plenty of other submissions to use and plenty of other people to use the knee bar on now that it’s in you toolbox. Why piss off a god training partner over one submission.
