    This is not surprising. About 5 years ago we traveled in Russia with a gentleman who helped set up the first McDonalds in Moscow. Originally, all the food, implements, etc. were imported. As they were able to produce/acquire the products in Russia meeting MacDonalds standards they switched over. The last were the potatoes which were finally switched from Idaho to Russian potatoes about 5 years ago. So, at the time of MacDonalds leaving, all of the products were produced in Russia to the international standards of MacDonalds.

      if you can read, I stated that he had set up the first MacDonalds, not 5 years ago, it was before the USSR collapsed. He was on a trip with us 5 years ago and related the story. Your opinion of MacDonalds (which is similar to mine) has nothing to do with the corporate standards which are a major selling point for the company.@avonmoremilk1958

    • @arnoldcohen1250
      @arnoldcohen1250 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It was simply to point out that well developed suppliers meeting the international standards are in Russia, so it is not surprising that the new company could maintain a product very similar to that provided before MacDonalds left Russia@@tjohanne . The point is it is no longer MacDonalds operating in Russia but its local successor. So, it is no longer what MacD does everywhere.

      The interesting thing is that the Russian government introduced a ban on most Western food products back in 2014. Since that time the total share of locally produced food in supermarkets grew from 30% to 70%. They have also made their own banking card payment system similar to MC/Visa, pressured car manufacturers to build factories in Russia instead of just importing their vehicles and so on. Its like they started to prepare for the coming confrontation with the West almost 10 years ago by fixing most of their economy potential weak points. No wonder Russians are so good at playing chess.

    At 4:22. Growing up in America I always thought one McDonald's location was the same everywhere. When I was New York in the early 1980s I visited one location near Wall Street. There were two levels to the restaurant. The basement was rather high class with leather seating, wood panels on the walls and chandeliers for lighting. It was designed for investment bankers and corporate lawyers in that part of Manhattan.

    I remember when I was a kid back in the 90s going to McDonald's was almost like an event, or a celebration. McDonald's really was fun for kids, I liked it a lot myself. Also, the ambience was completely different back then, along with the decor and arrangement of the interior (it was way more colourful and original). They also had basements back then, and often groups of kids would have their birthday celebrated in a McDonald's (and they also had a kids games section). It was a very family-friendly and welcoming environment.
    For some reason it seems to work even nowadays on new generations of kids, even if the name changes and the interiors look way more generic (to me, anyway).

    I agree. There is a noticeable variation in the quality of food served at McDonald's in the United States compared to other countries. For some inexplicable reason, the taste of the food in the United States is somewhat worse. The best way to describe it is that after consuming McDonald's products in the U.S., one feels excessively full, gross, heavy, and ate a whole lot of unnatural things. A feeling of discomfort, or even tiredness, may follow. In contrast, the taste of McDonald's food in Canada, France, the U.K., and other countries is consistent and tastier than that in the U.S. While it is still unhealthy, the post-consumption experience is less unpleasant.

    Yes I've experienced the same with how McDonalds in the US is not as good as in other countries. Seeing the day-to-day life of the local folks helps widen my perspective of your country and people. Thank you for sharing!

      No reason why your Maccas clone does not taste EXACTLY the same as all the contents and suppliers did not change, good to see Heinze still in USSR

    The only McDonald's I've been to outside the US was in Japan. I had the Teriyaki cheeseburger. It was amazing. I'm so sad we can't get it in the US.

    McDonald's smell at 9:57. I always thought it was vegetable oil in the air from the deep fried french fries. A friend who worked at McDonald's told me it also has to do with fried fish fillet served in many global locations.

    It is still Mcdonald's. They signed a deal for the rebranded franchise which expires after 10 years when Mcdonald's gets it back for 1 USD. For the time period Toczka has an access to the suply chain and as you can notice a Mcdonald's costumer software . It is still Mcdonald's. The interface does not look the same, it is the same with partially modified graphics. Most journalists already know that. Btw. The qr codes at the tables are surely supported by the very same ordering app. The interesting fact was that the fries were imported from Poland. Poland makes it all natural contrary to the chemical American content. That's why they taste really good here. I wonder what is the supply chain for Russian Toczka fries today. Dairy products in Toczka differ now only for the supply chain reasons. I guess Nestle suspended operations in Rus.

    Sweet Sweet Svetlana, You look marvelous daling. Thank you for all the closeups and just being yourself. I used to go to Mickey D's for the quickness of getting the food. When I was in High School we'd steal over to the next town where Micky D's was during lunch and get burgers fries and cokes. No drive thru like today, you parked your car and walked up to the building. There were 4 doors side by side, all with a line of at least 5 or 6 people. It only took a couple minutes to get inside the store. Once got inside the door you stayed in your line (queue) and immediately got out your money, because within about 1 minute you were at the counter. They were all college students working in there and they were serious. They only had hamburgers (15¢), fries (12¢) and Coke (10¢) or milk shake (20¢), and as soon as you told them what you wanted another student turned around and got it immediately. You could get thru a line of 10 people in about 3 minutes and lunch cost about 40¢. It was a simple lunch, but it beat school lunch, and it made an adventure out of lunch. But if you got caught leaving school property, you'd be kicked out of school for a day or more. Today's Micky D's is so loaded with different kinds of food, they can't possibly have all of it ready to hand out in 15 seconds. So much for "Fast Food." I still buy the cheapest burger they have and today it costs $1.78 U.S. That's 1,000% increase from 1970.
    BTW, who was the woman who came over and gave you the evil eye? She tried to look nonchalant, and sort of inconspicuous, but she came over behind you and really focused on you, she looked right at the phone camera intently, but tried to do it in a passing sort of way. I hope all is well. ben/ michigan

      "today it costs $1.78 U.S. That's 1,000% increase from 1970." Not really: you're overlooking a little thing called inflation.

    There should be no change to the food with McDonald's, because they make all their own food. McDonald's to my knowledge is the only burger franchise that grows their own beef, makes their own beef patties, bread buns, etc.. So, when they pulled out of Russia, they only took with them their name, logo, and recipes for certain items. Just like Coca-Cola, they took their name and logo and left their factories and workers who knew how to make the product. Now, either the president, one of his oligarchs or the state itself owns Tasty, taking advantage of all the years of research development McDonald's paid out to perfect their products.

    Hanging out with kids will keep you young for sure. McDonald's has gotten expensive in the US, $9 dollars for a chocolate shake and fries.
