They don't care about the people; don't even care about the animals, there's no restrictions or hunting Seasons/licences at the bushmeat market. but to be making the right sounds ; use the words Elephant and Protected Forest it's all that's needed. I respectfully suggest you broaden your perception and understanding.
There is no such thing as 'indigenous'. Indigenous only exists in present tense. However, the people who live in a region today, 100 years back, 500 years back, will be totally different.
Humans mutate and migrate. The only true definition of 'indigenous' relates to all humans being indigenous to earth.
The entire human species is at crisis point. The solutions we need are global. We better start thinking global if we want the species to survive. One race, one planet.
I am not saying we shouldn't acknowledge and honor the culture of a people. On the contrary, we need to honor each other in a much more profound manner.

I feel sad for these people, but Elephants are a keystone species. I wish all animals were left alone unless you can rebreed them and keep their population under control as well. The government should provide fisheries, rabbits, and chickens to all of the villages, along with proper training on how to raise them, in order to keep fed and support the people in the villages. Read this article and try to understand the value we have of keystone species. www.nationalgeographic.org/encyclopedia/keystone-species/

      @IagainstI. 5 ปีที่แล้ว +37

@@ottermooseprime1060 while your point is valid, it doesn't address the problem of outside influence which I believe is the ultimate problem. External entities come in and destroy habitats and animals for their own financial gain, they give little to nothing back to the people who live there. They reap the benefits of the environment but do nothing to preserve or restore it. Native people are not responsible for the damage we see now, and in part neither is the government. It is very hard to repair something that you did not do major damage to, so we shouldn't be telling them that they need to fix a problem they didn't create.

The tribe should have the first say, as the forest is their home and have proved them selves after generations that living with the ecology of the forest so as not to endanger their own food source just by them doing what they have naturally done for generations and wish to exist in their own natural way, who is really at fault? It would seem to me that unless you are of the native tribe just trying to survive as you have always done and are not providing for outside use, you should be left alone. Anyone else, should be given to the tribe as tribal laws far exceed the greed the modern unnatural way of things. The natural people of the forest should by right, have protection without any interference from any other person upon their way of living and be afforded the status of endangered species, as THEY are the forest.

This tribe has lived in the forests for centuries and centuries and they have managed to preserve the forests and all its inhabitants all this long. But their existence is all of a sudden threatened. It's the same scenario in Uganda where the same tribe is under threat and they are always under looked by the other neighbouring tribes. This is their life and that what they all know-hunting for survival. So if their source of survival is threatened, it's as if you want to wipe this tribe out the face of the earth. Don't just forbid something well knowing that it's their life without offering alternatives!

      Resorts for tourists?
What they really need is for other countries to leave them the hell alone!
I'm guessing that you don't know the history of these poor people, and where they really come from.
These people are not indigenous to that place, they were brought there in the 15th century as slaves by the order of king John lll to be exact.
They are the result of the the Spanish inquisition.
These people once lived in Spain and Portugal arriving from Yahuda, i.e. (from judah) and as a result of not converting over to roman Catholicism, the were put into slavery.
(An accurate description of Africa) by
      John ogilby circa 15th century!
      We must truly educate ourselves.

Why aren't these folks involved in the protection and running of their native lands that are to become a nature park? They're just as much a part of that nature and have been for a very long time. Plus involving locals is one of the best ways to protect wildlife.
If they had jobs protecting the area and learned how to tell which animals are plentiful to hunt, which they probably already know, they could continue to thrive for a long time.
