So technically slavery hasn't stopped in Haiti, just the form has changed. Kidnapping vulnerable children.

Jacques romaine was a Haitian writer during the time, after the parsley massacre. "La Tragédie haitienne" it spoke of genocide Trujillo tried to have Jacques arrested for his article because it was "defamation" but an appeal court noticed that everything Jacques said about Trujillo was true. Trujillo didn't want the world to know about this sin.

After the Treaty of Ryswick, French colonialists in what is now Haiti, could grow with significantly less warfare and interruptions that had been common in the years prior. This set the stage for rapidly expanding slavery and for Saint-Domingue to become one of the richest and most productive european colonies.
The treaty was finally ratified by the Treaty of Aranjuez on June 3, 1777 and the Treaty of Basel on July 22, 1795, leaving the western one-third of Hispaniola, Saint-Domingue a French colony and the eastern two-thirds, the current Dominican Republic to Spain.

atleast, haitians are doing something about it now. the Dominican republic has brought Haitians to work for them in the bateyes which started in 1952. that is literal slavery which didn't end until 1986 not because the Dominican government thought it was wrong but because Haiti overthrew their dictator but even then there are cases of kidnapping of Haitians to work.

in 1937 the Dominican republic was experiencing a depression and Trujillo actual blamed the Haitians for it.
