Replace Suzuki Key Battery

If the battery of your Suzuki Swift gets week then you can replace it easily. You will require CR 1620 3 Volt battery to replace old battery. You can even change the battery even if the screw on key gets stuck or free. This video is equally good for Dzire, SX4, A-Star, Zen Estilo, Ritz, Ertiga and Grand Vitara.

Heads up!!!! Anybody watching this in 2023, the battery type that fits Sizuki Vitara key fob is CR1616 and NOT CR1620, I just had to return the CR1620 that I bought as it didnt fit in the key fob properly! Anyways not a problem, just grateful to know how to do it! Thank you so much for making this video!

@ketakikamath9339 honestly not too sure about that one! It's easy once you get the right type of battery, I'd say open up the remote first, check the battery and then buy a new one that's what I'd do!

Helpful. The Swift key actually had CR1616. However the CR1620 worked well.

A key mechanic couldn't unscrew it, previous owners of my suzuki broke one of the keys apart to replace the battery. Me? Well, i just watched that video, haha!
Worked with my key without unscrewing even 1 degree (totally dead screw).
Tip: In a case such as mine, the cover won't rotate so easy as in the vid, but it will. don't forget to raise it up also, the plastic will survive it, good luck! :)

The manual for my Suzuki Alto says it should be a Lithium CR 1616 battery. I bought one and indeed the old bettery says CR 1616. You should look it up in your manual.

Open your key before purchasing the battery to check which one. My key looks identical but uses a CR1616

Yes, 2018 Vitara also had CR1616 from the factory. I had already bought CR1620 and it did fit, being 0,4 mm thicker (last two digits tells that).
2011 Swift had the same key and didn't need battery replacement in seven years or more.

Good video. Only why in the world have they put such a small battery in this key? There is space enough to hold a CR2032 Li-Ion battery which doesn't need to replace so often. It makes no sense.. I'm driving an Opel Agila which is basically a Suzuki Splash and uses the same key. I opened it and cut carefully the plastic out of the way which holds the original small battery on his place. Also I have molted the small plastic pin that holds the metal contact strip a little bit down to create more space to fit a CR2032 battery. Best way to molt this small pin down is to heat up a flat screwdriver with a lighter and press carefully on the plastic pin.
After this there is exacly enough space to fit a CR2032 and it works great :)

You got it wrong. Original battery is CR2016. CR2020 can barely fit, being 0,4 mm thicker (last two digits).
First two digits tells the _diameter_ of the battery.

It’s 1616 so 16mm diameter and 1.6mm thick or if using 1620 2.0mm thick. My Suzuki Swift key says 1616 printed in the plastic molding.

I used the Energyzer CR1620 to replace the battery and the new battery lasted only 2 years. The original battery lasted 4 or 5 years. It is good not to destroy the screw. It is advisable to use an adequate and high quality screwdrive (not very narrow).
Or replace also the screw after replacing the battery.
