JonJorgenson I was raised catholic and practiced Lent each year but now am born again Christian and don’t need to practice this as its part of my old life. I do fast but when I do it’s between me and God.
Hey Jon Can you please pray for my teacher mother , she has cancer that has become so server she can't take anti cancer injection please raise your prayers for us Everything to you Jesus!
Sadly, Lent is often described in a very ho hum kind of manner. Your presentation was excellent. You were enthused and the manner in which you spoke conveyed both an urgency and a joy. I especially like your reason for entering into the season: "Pursue God like never before so we can celebrate Him like never before." Well done, Jon!
This year is my first lent and I am going to be fasting unhealthy foods and praying and studying God's word and be kind and charitable. I pray for everyone else In this season of lent and hope you all find more peace with the Lord. God bless you all brothers and sisters in Jesus's name. Amen 🙏🕊️✝️💗.
This was very well spoken. Recently I've been juggling whether or not I will participate in Lent this year. At my church, it is almost something you are expected to do. Everyone talks about what they're giving up and at times it does seem like people use it to brag. "You're giving up pop? Easy! I'm giving up sugar all together." It's very off-putting, and while praying about it I was reminded of Matthew 6:16-18 where Jesus condemns the hypocrites for making it obvious they were fasting. Jesus says we shouldn't make it obvious to anyone when we are fasting and our Father who sees what is done in secret will reward us. For me personally, Lent was just crossing off a box instead of preparing my heart for Easter. But this video reminded me that the true meaning behind it is very special! So who knows what I'll end up doing this year.
sashii Protestants do lent too, especially Lutherans, Anglicans and others. Also Orthodox Christians of western tradition practice lents as well. May God draw all Christians together in this season as we pursue God and prepare for Easter.
@@Solideogloria00 Well said. Christians seem to have drifted apart. Some feel that we have been purposely driven apart for a hidden agenda by some of the unholy. Is it true? It's beginning to seem like it sometimes. Imagine if the Christians around the world truly united. It would change everything and create a wonderful, caring world. History has shown us that we have fought wars and destroyed each other for almost nothing in the end. Christians have fought Christians for our own reasons but it seems more so for others. I pray that we do all truly stand together for the season and forever. God bless us all.
So fascinating. My early childhood (before kindergarten) was spent in the Lutheran Church. Easter and the season of Lent was a HUGE deal - even bigger than a Christmas. As I’ve grown up, and my family started going to a non denominational church, I’ve craved that feeling of Lent and Easter. It was much more peaceful than Christmas to me. Christmas was spent preparing things, while lent was spent (that rhymes lol) preparing hearts. So last year I decided to take up doing lent on my own. Easter itself was a bust since my entire household got the flu, but even not going to an Easter church service, that was one of the most peaceful Easters I’ve had since childhood. This year, I’ve decided to take part in Lent again, and also something called “reverse” lent. I found this idea on a blog (I can’t remember which) where instead, or in addition to giving something up, you take something on. Such as a prayer challenge, bible journaling plan, a commitment of some kind - something to help keep your focus on God. I’ve personally been studying a lot about head covering and why even in today’s culture, it is relevant and biblical. So I’m “testing the waters” per say by head covering for lent. By headcovering I mean partial covering in church at least. But I may decide to go full time before this journey is over. (I may even decide to keep going after Easter) I have also decided to give up Netflix because let’s be honest - that is my BIGGEST distraction. While it’s a somber time of year, this has always been one of my favorite times of the year.
I am observing lent for the first time and have given up almost all bad habits mentioned in your video and started pursuing God like never before. Today is just the second day and your video has motivated and brought me closer to God even more. Thank you very much.
Like most people here I thought Lent was something Catholics and some protestants observed. I kinda already knew what it was but I've literally never heard it mentioned in my 29 years of church attendance. Not even joking.
Wow didn't see any comments but totally forgot about this comment from last year. I can't speak for Baptists, but I think observance of Lent is a great idea. Anything that puts the focus back on Jesus rather than us can only be helpful. And I suppose if a church requires attendees to forcefully observe any tradition, that is quite controlling. Thankfully we are saved by Grace through faith (Eph 2:8-9) and we are not saved by church. And i have 4 pastors in my family so I know the church I grew up in does not do that. Anyway that's what I meant when I said I hadn't heard it mentioned in church. Obviously there were people who told me they were participating in Lent. They just didn't announce it over the microphone. God bless you all.
@@peterthompson5132 true, the spiritualistic aspect of lent leads to inner healing. It improves the balance between behavior and spiritualism. Usually many donot teach that and simply force to follow.
I grew up in the Catholic church so Lent is a huge deal for us. I'm also from south Lousiana, so we don't eat meat on Fridays during lent, which gives us the excuse to have huge fish fries together on those days! It's some of the best times of my childhood :). Even now, as I don't have any denomination (I just say I'm a Christian) I still observe Lent because it's a very valuable time of fasting and prayer as one big body of Christ.
Daphne Campo, i also am from Louisiana n do the same n oh, oyster loaves n po boys and seafood gumbo !!! I am a Catholic and look forward to Lent every year to examine my conscience and try to live a better Christian life

It was called lent by the Roman Catholics. The tradition itself is not commanded in the Scriptures. But still useful for building up your relationship with God.

Hi Jon, thanks so much for this video. I have to create a short video though about lent for my church and I have found this so helpful!! Love your challenge at the end. Thanks
Thanks! That is the best description of Lent I've ever heard. As a born again QuasiCatholic I'm happy to see and hear modernized catholicism. I was surprised. A lot different from Mass in Latin and nuns in habits. At the same time, I love the traditions (does that even make sense?) The call and response, or Priest/people echo, communion every Sunday and now what ever day/morning/evening it is that you go. Most important is that a Christian religion honor God. There is a majesty in the rituals that are meant to honor God in a way i havent come across in any of the religions I've explored. Lent? It has beautiful intentions. My heart isnt in it tho. I hope every one has a loving and meaningful Lentin season.
