I hope Mick Taylor get more recognition as the years go on, it’s quite puzzling how his name has been out of the mix in the mainstream. Personally it irks me who’s raved about while MT and others im fond of never seemed to catch the respect that any fan of this genre of music should really know and respect. Great video
Is it not simply the fact he hasn’t been active in the “mainstream” most of the mainstream would consider Ron Woods an integral part of the history of the stones, when I’m fact you had Jones and Taylor. I’m all reality Ron Wood has basically played the guitar parts of the former players. Amazing player Taylor and probably won’t get the true recognition till the Stones all die and future generations discover the Stones for themself. Much like players like Peter Green
I think it's just because he bounced around so much, people who don't know his name still know his work..... I think his soloing on Gimme Shelter is pretty epic for instance
Mick Taylor was one of the main reasons I picked up the guitar as a kid. It took many years later for me to purchase a Gibson Les Paul R8 with the 1958 Gibson Les Paul that Mick Taylor played for a fraction of the cost of the real thing LOL. With the Custom shop R8, R9, and R0 I chose the R8. Strange that I have medium hands but I love the baseball bat neck, more meat and potatoes if you will. The R8 is my number one, great story guys most of us can't afford the real thing but what they are doing in the Gibson Custom Shop is fantastic.
@@hewitc I personally don’t have that issue and on my Gibson Les Paul Special with a basic rap around the only bridge it’s supposed to be worse but for me it isn’t.
Great vidéo , Bob and Simon conversation tell us an amazing story and Ramon's playing is beautiful and pay's tribute to Mick' s style and musical legacy ;Cheers !
Keith played this Burst extenxively during the Stones 1972 tour of the United States. Thereafter Mick played it during the Stones 1973 European tour and can be seen playing it during a rendition of 'Apolltical Blues' with Little Feat circa 1977. I saw Mick play this guitar a few times during the Blues Breakers reunion tour in the early '80s. Curious what happend to it after that.
That’s another mystery cleared up then! I’ve often looked at images of the various Stones bursts and wondered what happened to them. There was so much drugs and money around I bet at the time they didn’t much care.
There are a bunch of great pics of Keith with it in the Jim Marshall The Rolling Stones 1972 book. You see that odd strap button that they are referencing. Fantastic!
Great show. I remember talking to some session guys a long while ago who met Mick Taylor on a session and said he didn’t read ? ( as if he had to, of course ) but it made me wonder if that could have affected his career, probably not.
What became of the Ya ya's burst? I remember being a 7 year old kid starting at that guitar on the cover wanting one! Mick Taylor is my earliest influence because of that "Gimme shelter" movie which i seen hundreds of times since first seeing it at 9 years old. Unfortunately Mick did not play a burst in the footage on that one but did on "ladies and gentlemen" a few years later which really made me want one!

Luv to see an exile tribute session because we ain't ever gonna see it from the Stoners. Exile part 2 the real exile but I guess it's down to Mick Taylor only he really knows the score. But it's some meta fabulation. The Stoners greatest track ever was Hillside Blues for my money. It all clicked on that track.
Wonder why Gibson put on the script "Les Paul model" silk screen logo after the headstock was already sprayed? Like Bob said these come off just from cleaning the headstock but if they has sprayed the headstock'after the script logo was applied it would have lasted indefinitely? I seen a few old Burst's that still have a really clean script? Makes me wonder?
Mick Taylor’s plain(er) top sunburst couldn’t have been bought during the LA sessions following France. It is on the cover of Ya-Ya’s and is seen during the UK tour in ‘71. Might even be seen during the European tour in ‘70. I imagine there are photos of it from Nellcote too. This guitar - Claw - could well have been purchased during those LA sessions though. I don’t believe there are photos of it with the Stones earlier than that. Mick played his plain top during the ‘72 and early ‘73 tours then favoured this during the ‘73 European tour. There is a well known photo of Mick with his plain top and this guitar, smiling, sitting down somewhere. Edit: the photo around 26:45 looks like Mick’s plain top at Nellcote, with his SG in the background. Lots of the photos in the montage are Mick’s plain top, not Claw.
So it is the Les Paul from that photo session of Keith sitting playing with the yellow Stones logo shirt? I remembered that that had Schallers when they were discussing it and you feature a single image from that photo session. Edit: Oh wow. So it is. Looked at one of those Jim Marshall pics and you can clearly see that stripe between the pickups. That's my favourite ever set of photos of Keith.
Hi all, Mick Taylor is a very underrated guitarist. Saw him do a great job with John Mayall for his 70 birthday concert. Wonder what he does right now... Cheers to you guys, as always nice show & playing ! René

Yeah i just seen about that. I was blown away at that other Darkburst Slash owns!😱 It looks new even has the gloss still! No fade or bad chips at all. it is a freak of nature to see a 59 in that condition and still be all original!
I guess I could consider the frets as consumables as well. But sadly seems that refrets really burst the value, idk how, especially when dealing with a 58 with the small frets. Adding some nice medium jumbos to a 58 will really transform it. I have a 2016 R8 with the small frets, and just in its short life with me, I’ve played it as my number one for the last 4 years since I’ve bought it, and the frets are really starting to wear down. She’s turning into a fretless wonder 😂. I’ll definitely be having to regret it, I could care less if it lowers the value, if the guitar isn’t playable, then what’s the point. Not like I’m going to ever sell it. I’ve got around 35 guitars, I’m not one to sell guitars very often. They just become such apart of me, almost like children. They all have their own sound, stories, and memories.
IMHO Keith did not look as good with a Burst as Mick Taylor did playing one. But Keith looked great playing a black beauty! The BB look fit Keith to a tee! Like a old outlaw gunslinger such as Billy the kid or Jesse James! 😁

Yeah the current owners life bio was not needed at all here. This video was about a 1959 burst guitar that was with the stones in the past so beyond how he attained it and the guitars full history the rest is pointless.
