Black Girls are Kicking Ass and Taking Names in The Tech Industry. Congratulations and continued success Arielle. Thank you again Symone for another great video.
This is my 11th video, I’m watching on your channel Beez and this was the most liberating to see black women empowering someone like me in the audience! Thank you for capturing so many different experiences to really to make GovTech really such a clear path for our people!
What an amazing interview!❤ Beez I share your interviews with my 17 yr old high school cyber security student and my computer engineer student at North Carolina A&T! They love your content’ Laurel,MD please stand up!🙌
“The field is so new, it’s no structure to it!” 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙌🏾 this interview and information excites me! Thank you for this encouragement for people like me, on the journey of transitioning from a different line of work to CS!
Yea Government contracts seem like the way to go! Although the pay scale in government is trash, the benefits are insane! So yes I guess it depends on the person you are and what you want.
Shoutout to the AUC Dual Degree Engineering Program. I did my program in EE through Morehouse and Georgia Tech. I wasn’t really hearing the word “cybersecurity” back in the early 2000s, and IT wasn’t on my radar at that time. 20 years later, I’ve finally transitioned into the industry!
Im new to your channel. This is by far my favorite so...substantive, and relatable without the shiny objects. Arielle's impact and vision for WOC in this space will have profound impact years to come. Kudos to you both.
I started out as a 3 in less than 4 months a 5 then less than 2 months a 7 and ⬆️ 🆙 from there 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽. Guys don’t sleep on those pathways program recent graduate and all 🎉🎉 Golden Beez🎉
@@omo2023 yes that’s correct. However, there is a thing called “hiring authorities” in federal Jobs. That ranges from someone who has a disability, a veteran, and a lot more. Each of these hiring authorities, some comes with a points structure and also it comes with different hiring clauses for example: a job that is posted with a veterans preference, that veteran is not subjected to the normal “52 week” wait which is time in grade to get the position. Hence why a lot of people are able to climb the ladder fast. Please note not all jobs have veteran preferences. USA job is a please read job board! Good luck
I think what threw me off is the way you presented your message originally. Yes, using DHA can get a person into a higher grade quickly and since they really wouldn't have much time in federal service based on your timeline, starting a new probationary period wouldn't hurt them at all. However, if the person was in a career-conditional position and got a promotion in less than 2 months, that's new to me because generally, you must wait 3 months before transferring/promoting, but again, if they're applying to a DHA position or other positions where people could qualify under certain circumstances, it's doable. This is not happening in an intern program though.
@@omo2023 also a few others as well. There’s so much to OPM that a lot of people don’t take the time out to read. Tbh it’s a lot of jargons in CFR but it’s just what interest you and what might be applied to your sustaining. The handbook is life
Also remember guys you have GG, GS, CG etc. those are all federal pay grades but remember GS is the most popular base but there are alot of different pay grades.
It can be done I was hired as GS 05 GS 06 GS 07 after my first three years in active Army was over. I later came back into the Army then i retired from the Army and then hired into a GS 12.My point is this if you want into civil service positions apply apply apply all they can do is say yea or nea. Its more focused on experience. the degrees dont matter anymore how i know because i got hired as a GS12 last June and i brought it up and my director even told me straight up. Its the experience factors now over the degrees. Its about the years of experience you bring. Id say go for the highest gs grade you can and dont take no low gs position
Awesome interview, Symone B,, you never disappoint!! Arielle - you're a true inspiration to women of all ages, I recently began my pivot to Cyber & you've assured me it was the right move! Thank you
Dang! I went to Christiana High in Delaware and then I went to Clark Atlanta University! And now I’m transitioning in tech! I needed to hear this one ❤ much love to your channel 😊
Important: To get a security clearance, you must be employed by a government agency or a company that has a government contract and your job requires access to classified information. Your employer will guide you through the process after deciding to hire you.
I was referred for a position with this agency. So dope that this video pops up on my subscriptions page. I know its "apply and forget" with the government but I have my fingers crossed.
I’m grateful that I found your content. This interview is really helpful. I’m currently completing my MS in Cybersecurity. I’m transitioning from nursing into cyber. I hope to get some certifications and work in GovTech after graduation. Thanks for all that you share.
Great Interviewing! As a Black man w/ dreads this really resonated well with me and it gave me the confidence to be true to myself and focus on the things that actually matter such as skills and knowledge.
A very good amount of useful job hunt information, no holding back! I applaud 👏🏽 both host and guest! Continued success in your chosen careers 🎉 Thank You for Sharing
Ouuu good call with Teal and ISC2, i didn't know about either! I jumped on that CC course. I love to hear about Arielle Baine's non-profit. I am inspired by the idea of tech being the base for human-centric missions. Hmmm.. any canadians know a gov link in canada that lists GocTech contractors? Our gov website is hard to navigate and I wanted to start looking job postings on actual company websites to get familiar with common terms, as suggested by the two ladies above. Actually I'm sure it's not hard to navigate, but I am coming in from a touring life and I've been on the computer more in the past month (soooo interested in this possible career path im like.. gunna go for it I'm pretty sure) than my in the whole rest of my life lmao. Thank you as always for a brilliant video :)
These videos are 🔥🔥 but I like the ones showing the lifestyle instead of just sitting there. Tech life is cool, interviews should be showing the cool side at the same time you’re interviewing them. Keep it up. I love the information
i just started my tech career but I want to do an interview. people are NOT taking advantage of apprenticeships. prob the easiest way to get into cyber.
@symonebeez what happen to the 5 day $100 course?! Please don’t say you deleted it. You have to keep something for the little fish that can’t afford the big stuff yet
Loved the video! Very inspiring and full of insight. I know you’re going to attend Techsgiving Beez, would you say this event is for people already in the tech field ? Im a super fresh newbie and debating if i should hold off on attending these events until I’m a little further down my tech journey.
I struggled to pass the A+ security test this past March. I’m 56 years old and have the found that people would rather to me all types of reasons to just stay at my job as apposed to helping me get into the IT field…can I receive some help @BEEZ⁉️
Woah! I believe went to my high schools rival 🫨 wasn’t expecting to hear that. Seeing someone from where you’re from become successful in an area you aspire access in is so inspiring!!!

Yeah gotta make a move
Smart beautiful ladies I like to see this & they taking care of they families 📈📈💯
You both provided so much value. Talking about steps, skills and mistakes. Obviously the money is important but I appreciate the path there.
I enjoyed this episode. I get motivated seeing black people in the tech industry especially cybersecurity
Thanks for this🎉

Good info, Thanks
Glad it was helpful!

SMART. It's a federal government scholarship program
