20 years ago, I would’ve HATED this house, but the older I get, the more I appreciate the Windows and the simplicity of the floor plan! Today, I would live in it - and LOVE it!!!
Interesting. 30 years ago in my twenties I would have loved that house but now I would pay serious money not to have to live in an uninviting, cold place like that.
@@gustavmeyrink_2.0 you'd want to be payed not to live there? Also I get cold and uninviting feel with quite a number of modern buildings, this one however just isn't cold and lifeless and definitely not uninviting, what you said is just a lie.
Made a point of watching Grand Designs each week back in the day. This is a great house.... I remember this episode, the access, the trucks, the build... Note to self.... Watch this episode in it's entirety again....
(2:48) What a fantastic sculpture!!!! Wow. It's stunning ... and so beautifully framed! The 'frame' is what makes it pop. That is really impressive. Bravo.
Yes. They were on time to start, had to wait for the English to deliver something but still finished early ( I think they wanted to get back to Germany for a soccer match?) every tool was cleaned and put away in its place in the immaculate truck. I remember the episode because of that.
The thing that always got me when I watched "Grand Designs", was how (in my opinion at least) few if any of the finished places looked like "homes". They were undoubtedly residential buildings, or houses, but few of them looked like "homes", where people actually lived. No books or magazines lying on the tables, seating almost untouched by human arses, no coats hanging up, or boots left by the door. I realise that a lot of people are inherently tidier than me (which is a fairly low bar!) but there never seemed to be any evidence of anyone actually living in these places.
I think that too, but then I realised that people must tidy their homes before receiving visitors. That's what I certainly do, it would stand to reason people being visited by camera crews etc would do the same.
I mean no offence but do you seriously think that the producers of the program would leave the houses as they are lived in? It's an architecture program. In the same way that no house up for sale, where they are trying to present the building in the best possible way, would left 'as is'. The owners aren't selling the house but the producers of the program are 'selling' the house, to the viewer.
@@DCMutE27 Of course they would tidy up before the camera crew arrived, but there is a difference between "tidying up" and "removing all evidence that anyone actually lives here".

Makes me very proud to see it appreciated and in this fab house.👍👍🇬🇧 Edit...... anyone know where the coffee table is now??
The amount of light that gets in that house is bound to do you good. At least with so much glass around you won’t feel so enclosed, there’s a sense of space around you too. There’s one of these houses in my town and I must admit I love it
I've been lucky enough to visit someone who lived in a Huf house...I was the most awesome house I've ever been in...if I could I'd love to live in one someday.
For some reason, the position of the TV makes me so uncomfortable. It blocks the view to the garden which in turn takes so much of the wow-effect away when you enter the main living space.
I'd say one of the best. But I believe the artists has put the magic into it plus bringing the outside nature with those big windows. Office/home. Amazing
The host doesn't seem to get the house. I think it's gorgeous in its functionality and use of light and the homeowners have added to that with their gorgeous artwork - artwork that is enhanced by the design of the house itself. I don't see "rigidity" here at all.
@@ciarandevine8622 Of course. Always the safest bet is to blame the straight white male bears. Easy target and they're too busy making money and building a future to notice the accusations.
Have to agree this and the one where the male partner passed away just before the construction was about to start and she managed it on her own in budget.
I have watched many of these programmes and i cannot remember one that i thought was any good, they all look like an office block in the middle of a field.

This is a classic. The German builders navigated their way to the house site and arrived on time, but not the two British crane drivers who both got lost and were late.
I think in its general shape and use of space the architecture is redolent of a kind of Balinese style with a smattering of traditional Japanese features in it: The airy and open spaces, generous proportions and the use of wood in construction ... this explains the unyielding glamor.
German design at it's best. I've always loved this house and the combination of furniture, artwork and sculptures makes it truly unique. The garden is an absolute delight. Lovely, lovely home.
A massive improvement on this design would be to make the middle section a single story flat roof garden with wooden beams and ivy for dappled shade. It would be incredibly simple cheap and easy for anyone to build with a flat central roof garden since the shape of the whole building would simply be two tall garden sheds connected by a single story oblong in the middle. The two roofs could also be living flower and grass roofs.
Rest in peace David! ❤❤❤ The original episode is what got me hooked on Grand Design and I'm hoping to contact Huf Haus and try expanding them to Kenya as that's where I've relocated to and this country has some of the most amazing views and ecosystems that would be fitting of such a house.
