  • Please enjoy our circular step-by-step virtual walk featuring Porthkidney Sands - and our dog! We start on the Ferry Path that cuts through West Cornwall Golf Course to the Hayle River, following it to the estuary, where the river meets the North Atlantic Ocean.
Porthkidney Sands is a vast beach characterised by ripple fields in the sand that are created by the strong currents. It is almost a mile long and at very low tide it is possible to walk around Carrack Gladden head to Carbis Bay. Anglers love Porthkidney and catch a variety of fish including Sea Bass. With plenty of space and being dog friendly 365 days a year it is the perfect place to bring your four legged friends for a good walk.
A trek up the dunes brings you to the South West Coast path and eventually the path runs along the boundary of the golf course with views of St Uny Church, Lelant. There are records of a religious site here from 1170.
These walks are designed for exercising from home or relaxing. We intentionally stay quiet so that you can enjoy the sounds of nature as if you were doing this yourself. A fully immersive experience!
    The standard description bit…
We are Sarah and Andrew and we film our walks around Cornwall and publish on TH-cam, usually weekly. Sometimes we stay in accommodation in Cornwall and upload our vlog. Sarah is fascinated by sea glass and likes to collect it so there may be the occasional sea glass video too. The channel is a hobby and we both have normal day jobs!
    Frequently asked questions:
    What camera do we use?
Since December 2018 we have used: Canon Powershot G7x MkII
How do I find the books you use?
Most are still in print although some we pick up in charity shops and may be available on Amazon secondhand. Please refer to the video for the book titles. Every video shows the book three times. Sorry but we can’t put a link in every description.
Best time of year to visit Cornwall?
We love May, June for flora and fauna, July and September for spectacular scenery.
    What is your dog’s name?
Sorry but we do not release the name of our dog, perhaps you can make up your own name for him.

Awesome walk! Not sure I’d have the nerve to walk across that beach without triple checking the tide times!

What a fabulous walking video - not being a true fan of “Virtual Walks” I absolutely loved this one, the sub titles were a really bonus and gave me information that I have always wondered about. To see your little brown doggie that certainly kept to your fast walking pace really enjoying the walk with you was a real joy. Wonderful scenery & I do hope that you took your wellingtons ha ha!!. 10/10 one that should be posted in a link to Boris. at No 10.

Lovely. Even during the parts when my mind wandered off-track & I'd start fearing we were all gonna get sucked up by the North Atlantic & spat out on the other side of the estuary to be ferried back to the car-park by some unpublished Lewis Carroll character! Then, I"d catch back up w/u all & resume our stroll.

It was really nice to get this tonight, just what was needed. What a walk. Good job you know the tide times. You could tell it was St Ives in the distance. Thats a good beach. Lovely to see doggie all the way and so happy and digging as usual. Good to see the number of steps as well you certainly walk at speed. Walking has been essential for me everyday unless its pouring down with rain through lockdown for exercise just over 2 miles a day circular walk from home and back. Usually mornings. Makes you feel better. How Andrew holds that camera though in that position all the way i have no idea. Thank you for all your hard work in doing these videos. Nice to get glimpses of Sarah smiling throughout. Stay safe and sanitize !! xx

Watched this one now! Good long jump at 14.04!!! Lovely walk with you both and the ever fab doggy. Vast beach. I wonder if Joe Biden will get to walk on it when he visits Carbis Bay this year?!! You never know, he may go round the headland at low tide and bump into you two out on your walks! Lovely to finish up at St. Uny Church. I think I've visited almost every Parish Church in Cornwall over the years! Love an old church...my special favourite is Gunwalloe. Thanks for the heads up about the vid tomorrow! Will tune into You Tube again then! J x

Hi Judy, I love this walk, and like you say such a huge beach so really easy to keep our distance is necessary, although our dog always has to say hello! Sarah :)

Beautiful, stunning beach, one of my favourites. I love walking round to Carbis Bay on a really low tide. Have you ever got the bus to Gwithian and walked back to Hayle along the beach? It's a walk I like to do.

hello Sarah and Andrew, it's great that you show the names of the bays and hills because I have clues to save the tour in my hiking navigation program. I have another question do you have waterproof shoes or wet feet when you walk through the water on the beach. many greetings and stay healthy. Günter

Hi there, My old walking boots are pretty good, they only let water in where the laces start, so I can confidently walk through water up to about 3cm deep! Sarah :)

Blimey. It makes me tired just watching this video, LOL!. You’re not by any chance wearing titanium spikes on the bottom of your shoes are you? Great viewing. Thanks.

    • @CornishWalkingTrails

LOL! Sand is hard work but no spikes!! We try and walk regularly, every day for a shorter 30 minutes but at least an hour 2-3 times a week, Sarah :)

How much is your channel responsible for the G7 summit coming to Cornwall (Carbis Bay ).? Quite a bit i would say.
