  • Great little mini-monitor with many applications. Just add a subwoofer and they make an excellent 2.1 setup.

    I'm not sure why the audio crackles a bit and stutters. Doesn't do it in the original file, must be a TH-cam issue...

    I've used these for computer speakers for over a decade along with a SVS 500W sealed subwoofer and listening to music is addicting. I have my sub set to crossover at 90Hz, as this is where the SuperZero speakers totally drop off in bass. Really nice full range of sound. What's tricky about subs is your room and equalizer plays a huge role in getting good sound. Or else you have parts of the room that get no bass at all or too much bass.

    NHT is better than Sony
    I can't listen to music for more than 5 minutes through that 'Sony SSC5' speaker
    Sound is Very Very Very tired
    But with nht speakers I can listen to music for more than 5 hours
    That's what a good speaker is
    Most people evaluate the sound of a speaker only with the strong impression of the moment
    But they can't distinguish between sound balance and harmony
    This is why we use classical music when testing sound

      You're exactly right. Most people like sound that 'impresses' upon first listen. It's only after extended listening that you can tell what sounds more natural (and it's NOT a matter of more bass and treble, that's for sure). These SuperZeros are really excellent for the money, but they ABSOLUTELY require a sub. I actually just made a video about them, myself, if you want to check it out on my channel.

      You can’t expect viewers to appreciate the sound quality and impressive soundstage of an NHT speaker from a TH-cam video! I used 5 SuperZeros with an NHT Sub back in 1995 and they still amaze me. A few years later I updated the fronts to the NHT 1.1 series and they do a great job with both music and home theater. The original SuperZeros are still used as surrounds.

      i have a pair of Superzeros in the living room and another pair in my bedroom. the pair in the living room is matched to two modest subs, not looking for more bass but balanced bass throughout the listening space. the pair in my bedroom doesn't need a sub if all i'll listen to is acoustic music.

    Thanks for this review man. I'm very glad to see you looked inside the speaker, which is rare. That's a pretty big magnet on that tweeter.

    The Sony's sound bigger and fuller and are clearly more efficient, but the NHT's sound cleaner.

    Thank you for this, it seems like a more real world listening demo than other "audiophile" TH-camrs. The NHT in comparison sounds anemic and only seems like it would be good with surround. The Sony's sound far better with fuller sound, now I understand why everyone mentions them.

    I have the entire NHT line. The SuperTwo towers, SuperOne2.1,SB1 and SB3 plus those SuperZero's. SuperZero's are great but it's the SuperOne 2.1 that you want to compare to those Sony's instead. It's the bigger version of the SuperZero.with a 6.5 inch woofer. That would be interesting!! What crossover did you use with the SuperZero from the sub?

      Think I liked the xover set at about 100 to 110hz on my Martin Logan Dynamo 500 sub.

    I have a chance to buy a used original version of the superone recently but found your vlog now and coincidentally, I am also very interested with the Sony SC5. Upon watching and hearing your comparison , it seems the Sony is more open sounding and has fuller range , which I like because I don't usually use sub for straight music listening. I believe the Sony is overall better but the problem is it's not available in our country. But I think I will hold in buying the Superone and wait for a chance to get the SC5.

    Thanks for doing this review. I have the Sony's and they are a good value at $73 pair when I got them at Best Buy last year. I have been thinking about the NHT''s with the sealed design and lower sensitivity. Which do you like better: Sony or NHT with a sub?

    • @iowaudioreviews
      @iowaudioreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      If your going to run a sub the NHT do have slightly cleaner more accurate midbass and midrange cause of the sealed design. The Sonys are very good for the price and their larger enclosure and port design give them a lower response with more bass which allows them to get by without a sub. BUT this also makes their bass a bit punchy or muddy in some songs taking away from the lower ends accuracy. For overall fidelity, NHT plus a good sub.

    What Would Be a Good Recommendation For Wall Mounting Brackets For These?

  • @tombarnes3961
    @tombarnes3961 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Im just now first hearing of these, just replacing a set around our home bar mounted. So we can shutoff big system and just isolate to bar area.
    The smaller I can find the better so if not these NHT's what would you recommend.....small is key. Don't want to over do the area with big mounts

    The thing that really cripples this comparison of how they sound is the difference in efficiency of the two speakers. I think that it would have bee a better test if you had used a meter to determine separate volume settings and done sequential takes and edited out the volume changes. It is my experience that speakers often need to be driven to a minimum volume level if one wants a true picture of the quality of the sound that they produce. In this comparison I do not believe that the NHTs were driven to that level.

    The demos sound weird on my system. It sound's like the music is stuttering. I thought the Sony sounded better.

    • @iowaudioreviews
      @iowaudioreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I played the original back on VLC and media player sounds fine. But when played back through TH-cam it like glitches...idk. I agree, alone no sub for the price the Sony are still king.

      The Sony’s will definitely sound better for rock music and he played a fair bit of rock. The NHT’s will do better with Jazz music, Classical or acoustic.

    Needs a crossover cap upgrade. The electrolytic beer cans are not high quality. They are mediocre at best. I'm considering buying and upgrading some NHT.

    this is NHTs most basic entry level you should do a review of their C3s or C4 towers or at least the 2.1 Superones

  • @robertorodriguez2609
    @robertorodriguez2609 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    the superzeros need more power because of their lower sensitivity, that's why they have lower sound level than the sony's. in that sense the comparison failed to provide a level playing field though the sony's do have more low end.

    • @iowaudioreviews
      @iowaudioreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I state in the video the Sonys aren't a direct comparison as they are almost twice the size. They're just all I had on hand at the moment. Loudness doesn't equal fidelty but higher sensitivity is usually a benefit. But smaller speakers typically have lower sensitivity. These NHT are great for their compact size.

    Its night and day between the Sony and NHT's. You can here the fat bottom end in the Sony's meshing with the sub. The NHT's not really being dialed in as it sounds scooped on my headphones. If iui were to buy anything based off this review, it would be the Sony's!
