The video for ‘My Sacrifice’ (in my opinion) is about how time washes away our memories as we age. We struggle as we get older to remember finer details and things just become “murky”. Was it perfect? No. Did it have some meaning? I think so. A literal flood of memories that Scott saw himself having as he became older. He wants to greet those memories again and is happy that they’re still with them, as clouded as they may be. I could be way off on this one, but that’s what I took away from that video 😅
The only music videos I would tolerate would be the Breaking the Chains music video by Dokken, it's a good song and George Lynch is an underrated guitarist.
The 80s was Heavy Metals golden age. Great creative music that gave you an energy and a feeling of power. You had to react . It picked up the spirit. Drove out mental darkness. Can't say enough about how the Metal Music carried me through tough times.
What? Peaches is amazing! And how is Rock Me Tonite by Billy Squire not on this list? It literally ended the career of one of the biggest rock stars of the 80s.
The 'Country House' video was directed by Damien Hirst, who was the 'enfante terrible' of the art scene in the 90's. He was the guy who cut a cow in half and put it in formaldehyde. He was a big part of the whole 'Cool Brittania' movement of that era.
Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost.
The Blur vieo was just them having fun an taking the lyrics literally, plus some of Britain's most popular topless models at the time appearing because....reasons?
They didn't even know there was going to be page 3 models in the video...it was just supposed to be a very artsy thing portraying the themes of the song. It's pretty much disowned by the band
@@noursarhan8695 with one of my favourite page 3 girls ever. jo guest. shame she's had so many health issues over the last numbers of years. left her skint and claiming benefits.
Blur's video was actually directed by Damien Hirst himself, if you don't know him, he's the biggest name in modern art, you know, the kind of art you are left wondering if that's a piece of work or a piece of crap. Anyway, the video itself isn't that confusing, the band members are playing the board game and somehow gets trapped inside. Board games can be THAT hectic.
There’s a story about Dokken’s video for “Dream Warriors” that while they were in between shooting the man who played Freddy Krueger took his blade fingers and stuck it into a bag of blow and the band did lines off the blades. George Lynch was so messed up he could break through the breakaway wall during the shot in which he performs his solo. Sounds like the most 80’s metal story imaginable. Also that video is close to quality of “Breaking The Chains.”
That Falling In Reverse cover is an insult to the original. Why the hell did you even have to place the basic guitar riffs in the chorus in the first place?
If you didn't like that disappointing cover check out Like A Storm's cover of Gangsta's Paradise, they do justice to the original better Falling In Reverse ever could while still keeping it a Rock song.
Hmmm... Surprised that there isn't more 80's rock and metal videos in this top ten list. I mean, how is it even possible for so many great songs to have such terrible video clips at the same time???
The Creed video was probably a left-handed tie-in to the movie Hard Rain. The Blur video is all about fin and probably a social commentary on rich people and their eccentric ways of doing things when money is in excess. "Hip to be Square" video was probably done quickly and separate from using the Back To The Future footage. Remember, copyright issues were "back in the day" as well. What's wrong with the BVB video? It's just the whole Kiss thing again with a green screen and a bunch of the "Dark" stuff you'd find on the black cards in a Magic The Gathering card game. The Megadeath video uses a German Expressionist art form to tell the story of Schizophrenia. "Peaches" was a great video and parodies Martial Arts movies of the 1970's, which was popular back in the 1990's when I was 18. Again, from a decade that was fun and didn't take itself so serious all the time. The Dokken video : It was the 1980's and Heavy Metal had a certain look. Every group was doing something similar to this video, so to stand out on MTV was hard to do. coming up with new gimmicks was hard to do and a lot of video directors just didn't know how to make a good video. This Dokken video, and the rest, may have been a victim of this...and finally, a lot of video directors didn't talk to the band about what they wanted in a video before they made the band act out the video.
And the subject of the song is played by Keith Allen, actor and also father of singer Lily Allen. Oh and the video was directed by none other than Damien Hirst...
Dude, I'm a proud Gen-X'er/Child of the 80s, and I can assure you that at least where I'm from, "Bring me the news" was NEVER a pick-up line! LMFAO! Even if it were, I seriously doubt it would have been a successful one! I'm not sure how 'dirty' the Peach song is supposed to be, but here is what the lead singer said: "Lead singer Chris Ballew has stated that he wrote "Peaches" about a girl he once had a crush on. He allegedly wrote this song after sitting under a peach tree she had in her yard while waiting for her to arrive, to finally let her know that he liked her." So, there you go. Nothing perverted was said, and people can interpret it dirty if they want to. And as for Dokken, I think they all cringe about having worn makeup and fluffing out their hair, much less the cringe-worthy videos. Yeah, they are embarrassed about that.
The music video for "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" is extremely underwhelming considering just how awesome the song in question is. I did get to see a Literal Music Video that managed to make this dumb video intentionally funny, though.
"What kid of drugs were they (Blur) on..." Ecstasy. Lots of Ecstasy. Remember that they got their start as Madchester/Stone Roses style rave-rock band with the requisite Acid House influences. So of course it's Ecstasy. Assume everything Damon Albarn has EVER DONE is because of Ecstasy!
In defense of Megadeath, having an inside view of Danny Bonaduce's mind was pretty groundbreaking. Edit: Peaches would be stupid no matter what they did.
When MTV first appeared, I used to ask my friends why they watched videos of musicians lip syncing to their songs. I never saw the purpose for a video, unless it was to make money. So much for the term "Artist".
Back when "My Sacrifice" was new, I saw a VH1 host say that the band claimed that everything in the video had religious symbolism of some kind. The host couldn't quite believe it, even back then.
As much as I love staring into Huey Lewis' gorgeous blue eyes...that was a little TOO close. This video was hilarious, and your editing keeps getting better! Looking forward to more! 😁👍
If you pause at 1:56, Stapp looks like Tom Araya does now. 2:20 - Matt Lucas? (And yes, I already know the main character in the video is Keith Allen) And just off topic, have you seen Denzel Curry's cover of Bulls on Parade? And if so, what are your thoughts?
That creed video was shot at Universal Studios in Orlando and I had friends working there at the time. All the reports I got from them were about the band being total a-holes and how they were constantly being inconvenienced by sections of the park (including backstage areas) being blocked off to keep people as far away from the band as possible.
I'll go over this piece by piece. 10) At the 1:15 mark, I think that's a representation of Scott Stapp's smugness. He's in love with himself. 9) To be honest, I do find this video pretty humorous and entertaining, so I can give it a pass. Not to mention I freaking love Mouse Trap - good childhood memories. 8) TRY GETTING YOUR RESERVATION AT DORSIA NOW!!!!!!!! Unless Huey Lewis eats you alive like the peanut butter soup and seasoned fries they're serving... "Don't just stare at the camera, eat it!!" 7) Could have been better but I'd consider this one a B-grade guilty pleasure. Next! 6) Meh, I don't think there can be too many Dave Mustaines. I can kinda relate too since I have Asperger's and talk to myself a lot, lol. Don't worry, I ain't crazy. ;) 5) Funny, I used to live in Georgia, and I love ninjas, but still kinda awkward. 4) ROFLOLMAO!!!!… 'nuff said. 3) "Come any closer and we'll cut you, homie.... right after we're done with these piano lessons...." *sips tea and bites crumpet* 2) I can smell his beer-sodden nether-regions from here. I wouldn't swim there but I'd go if he's got a spliff and some free beer. 1) Air guitars are completely un-rock - or any air instruments for that matter. This video was clearly rushed. They wanted in the can before sundown before they went back on the tour bus. (No disrespect to Steve Perry since he seems like a nice guy)
To all people who suggests stuff like Rock Me Tonite, Hit That, Time Stand Still and some other, please watch first video in this series, you might be suprised)
They slowed down the song (Sweating Bullets) for the music video so it looked faster, i mean they really didn't know it was gonna turn out like that ☠️ anyways my favorite moment in it is Marty and Nick, love em
It's a metal band, but A Plea for Purging's, "Malevolence", was something to watch. I wouldn't say I winced through it (sometimes I did), but it was so bad that it was good. It's apparent to many that the background is a green screen and the acting seemed irredeemable. For some, it was made for the laughs and I can see it that in a way.
If you ever need one for the next volume, I suggest Grim Reaper's "See You in Hell". Glorious metal cheese at its finest, also because Weezer used it as an alternative video for their single "We Are All on Drugs".
You definately saved the most awful for last !!! Me and my friends growing up back then ALWAYS thought this was THE worst ! They all looked so foolish and awkward !!!
11:35 Well, to answer your question, considering guitarist George Lynch recalls a story of the band snorting cocaine off of a Freddy Krueger glove around the time of their fourth album, I'd like to think if the answer isn't "a lot" by then, it's at least well on its way to that stage.
Has anyone seen that Mastodon "The Motherload" music video? It had voluptuous women twerking all throughout. I didn't know if it was meant to be satire or not.
The term "Alternative" or even "Alt" started out kind of serious in the early 90's but it just turned into a lazy homogenization of similar, fairly crappy genres that MTV was to tired and bourgeois to classify.
If you think the Dokken and Journey videos were bad, then you obviously haven't seen the Kiss "Lick It Up" video. Every time I see it, I feel as if I've been touched inappropriately...
A whole video could be done on Cory Feldmans "Ascension Millennium". There is so much awkward and random about it. I have probabaly watched it 20 times, and never fail to see something new and odd.
The tiny clips of BVB you played gave me ptsd flashbacks to having milk poured on me in middle school lmao. And sweating bullets is still one of the most hilarious songs I’ve ever heard.

That Falling in Reverse cover is absolutely unbearable. Could easily be used as a torture method. Kudos for sitting through it.
Fun fact: Journey's "Separate Ways" video is all Jonathan Cain needed to secure a job doing T-Rex mo-cap for Jurassic Park.
The 'Country House' video was directed by Damien Hirst, who was the 'enfante terrible' of the art scene in the 90's. He was the guy who cut a cow in half and put it in formaldehyde.
He was a big part of the whole 'Cool Brittania' movement of that era.
Yeah lol this explains everything
And the pervy scientist was one half of Little Britain.
“Middle Aged White guys trying to be cool brittania”
fun fact: Fallen Angels was the only BVB clip which wasn't directed by Patrick Fogarty
"Hey, do you love Huey Lewis?!"
He's...okay.
*Newspaper laying on ground intensifies*
Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost.
@@kubz1570 He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humour!
Spot on
Any Loverboy video. Oh! And that terrible Billy Squire - Rock Me Tonight video...
My housemate walked in halfway through and asked "What is this? 10 awful music videos?"
@@thedxbrotherXIII I liked the cover of Like A Storm
Gangstas paradise is just a rip off of Stevie Wonders pastime paradise anyway.
This Dokken video, and the rest, may have been a victim of this...and finally, a lot of video directors didn't talk to the band about what they wanted in a video before they made the band act out the video.
a note on the Blur video - the pervy scientist appears to be comedian Matt Lucas of Little Britain fame..
Funny thing about the Dokken video, the bass player stated that was the first video he did with the band and almost quit when he saw the video.
Don't get it twisted. Kid Rock has been stealing riffs since his first album. All he does is steal from other people and claim it as his.
Blur - coffee and tv music video is a masterpiece
Two girls at my school dressed as the milk cartons from that video at the Halloween party the year it was released. Still the best costume I've seen.
@@Hair8Metal8Karen true fans are true fans
Amen to that
The music video for "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" is extremely underwhelming considering just how awesome the song in question is. I did get to see a Literal Music Video that managed to make this dumb video intentionally funny, though.
"What kid of drugs were they (Blur) on..."
Ecstasy. Lots of Ecstasy. Remember that they got their start as Madchester/Stone Roses style rave-rock band with the requisite Acid House influences. So of course it's Ecstasy. Assume everything Damon Albarn has EVER DONE is because of Ecstasy!
Wrong. It was heroin and he’s off it now.
Wrong. It was heroin and he’s off it now.
Wrong. It was Heroin and he's off it now
Nah it's just that it was directed by Damien Hirst, that explains it all really
Probably all the prozac they were knocking back
Motley Crue- Too Young To Fall In Love
Poison- Talk Dirty To Me
Genesis- Jesus He Knows Me
Ratt- I Want A Woman
Anything by Winger
That's is a whole lot of weird in a short amount of time.
"That guitarist" is George Lynch. Give him a little more respect, he is a hell of a player.
In defense of Megadeath, having an inside view of Danny Bonaduce's mind was pretty groundbreaking. Edit: Peaches would be stupid no matter what they did.
Sweating Bullets is not helped by the fact that 99% of the color in the video is Dave's hair
I love how unpretentious this dude is!! makes it so much more enjoyable to watch these than most top 10 lists
When MTV first appeared, I used to ask my friends why they watched videos of musicians lip syncing to their songs. I never saw the purpose for a video, unless it was to make money. So much for the term "Artist".
I read somewhere that the type of camera used for the Hip To Be Square video was mainly used for medical purposes (i.e. seeing inside of people).
Back when "My Sacrifice" was new, I saw a VH1 host say that the band claimed that everything in the video had religious symbolism of some kind. The host couldn't quite believe it, even back then.
Falling in Reverse's "Gangsta's Paradise"? Easily 5.3 Gigahonkies.
The way he says Ganger is really a huge tell. He looks like a twit!
Hmmmmmmm, watching the guitarist in the Dokken video I can see where Limahl from Kajagoogoo got inspiration for his hairstyle LOL
It's like a metaphor for a person letting opportunitys in life pass by and the next thing you know your old and alone the creed video
(And yes, I already know the main character in the video is Keith Allen)
And just off topic, have you seen Denzel Curry's cover of Bulls on Parade?
"Don't just stare at the camera, eat it!!"
7) Could have been better but I'd consider this one a B-grade guilty pleasure. Next!
6) Meh, I don't think there can be too many Dave Mustaines. I can kinda relate too since I have Asperger's and talk to myself a lot, lol. Don't worry, I ain't crazy. ;)
5) Funny, I used to live in Georgia, and I love ninjas, but still kinda awkward.
4) ROFLOLMAO!!!!… 'nuff said.
3) "Come any closer and we'll cut you, homie.... right after we're done with these piano lessons...." *sips tea and bites crumpet*
2) I can smell his beer-sodden nether-regions from here.
12:24 Your description of this video of a twelve year old singing into a toothbrush is brilliant! Made me laugh out loud! 😂😂😂
You know what would've made that Huey Lewis video better?
Bees.
That's exactly what I was thinking.
Not gonna lie... Separate Ways is one of my favorite songs from the 80s. The video, on the other hand... not so much.
David Bowie & Mick Jagger: Dancing in the Streets. (Epic Cringe)
Wait the singer for Kajagoogoo was also the guitarist for Dokken? or did they just have the same blind stylist? neverending storrry hm mm mm
Hip to be square makes me laugh thinking about Christian Bale in American Psycho everytime.
10:52
Hey that's George Lynch!! He's awesome!
Refering to the Dokken Video…. So that’s what happened to Limahl from Kajagoogo
At a distance I thought Dokken was Spinäl Tap.
I'll see myself out now.
LOL
11:35
Well, to answer your question, considering guitarist George Lynch recalls a story of the band snorting cocaine off of a Freddy Krueger glove around the time of their fourth album, I'd like to think if the answer isn't "a lot" by then, it's at least well on its way to that stage.
Has anyone seen that Mastodon "The Motherload" music video? It had voluptuous women twerking all throughout. I didn't know if it was meant to be satire or not.
To me, it was as satirical as Monster Magnet's "Space Lord".
Quentin Childs Honestly theres worse ones theyve made. Check out their music video for Deathbound
Mastodon's hilariously bad videos are pretty much a trademark at this point. Bad in all the right and best ways.
@@alantaylorfc Deathbound is still, by far, their best~
The term "Alternative" or even "Alt" started out kind of serious in the early 90's but it just turned into a lazy homogenization of similar, fairly crappy genres that MTV was to tired and bourgeois to classify.
I really like the song Country House and all, but yeah, the music video is very weird.
Sams
If you think the Dokken and Journey videos were bad, then you obviously haven't seen the Kiss "Lick It Up" video. Every time I see it, I feel as if I've been touched inappropriately...
Starship- we built this city
Kiss- Lets put the X in sex
Imagine Dragons- Radioactive
We need another episode of this series, there's a lot of other bad music videos
Hey now don't be knocking George Lynch, his scorching guitar work once caused a volcano eruption! ...... Well sorta.
Even the band thought their videos sucked. lol
@@joshburns4611 That's what I was about to say!
Amazing list but I always wondering why George Lynch of Dokken look like Limahl from Kajagoogoo?
Blur - it was England in 1995. It would be easier to list the drugs they weren't on 🤣
"Pervy scientist and the pig" sounds like it would be one hell of a show.
Well at least the Huey Lewis video
Isn't on a high definition 3D TV.
You'll probably feel Huey Lewis sweat..
Ewwww.
IDEA: 10 good music videos for bad/mediocre songs?
A whole video could be done on Cory Feldmans "Ascension Millennium". There is so much awkward and random about it. I have probabaly watched it 20 times, and never fail to see something new and odd.
If there's one thing I can give to cory on that song is that he made the song replayable...
For all the wrong reasons but hey, good for him.
The tiny clips of BVB you played gave me ptsd flashbacks to having milk poured on me in middle school lmao. And sweating bullets is still one of the most hilarious songs I’ve ever heard.
Coolio to Weird Al= You mocking me? Not cool bro.
Coolio to Ronnie Radke= ...i love it!!!!!! where do I sign?
😶😐😑
😕😐😦😒
Ooh that first music video, I remember suggesting that cuz of the weird humanoid fishes. I'm loving this already
And Country House's video... oh my Lord, both the video's weird AND the song's unbearable 😂
