  • Today we will learn 100 basic Russian verbs that every beginner must know. I also explain you some basic Russian pronunciation rules (for example how to pronounce vowels O and E and some helpful facts about voiced and not voiced consonants).
    Of course I give you some tips how to understand these difficult verb aspects (imperfective vs perfective) in Russian language.
    You can just check out what verbs you know and write down some if they are new for you.
    Your Russian teacher,
    Veronika

    I like your style very much.
    In answer to your question about supper, since you ask. It is true that the word has become rare but it is not so much that the word itself is old fashioned as that the custom and way of life associated with it that has become old fashioned: people do not eat supper very much any more and that makes it old fashioned. Supper was the evening meal for the working class family and not very many people today regard themselves as working class any more and even if they do, they have to be living ina working class family to be enjoying supper. Supper takes places much earlier than dinner and never with alcohol, instead with tea milk or water. Supper around 5 or 6 pm Dinner is usually eaten after 7 pm and very often with alcohol. A class difference. Upper classes organized supper only for the childrens evening meal with nanny. The parents had dinner in the dining room, nanny and the children had supper in the nursery.

    Спасибо! I really like this format of teaching. you should have a series of videos with 25 verbs each and also nouns, adjectives etc! Ihave been learning Russian for four months now, am still getting used to typing it. I am nearing the end of grammar lessons and boosting my vocabulary more. This is really helpful.

    (Generally) Main meal of day between 12:00 - 15:00 = dinner. Main meal between 18:00 - 21:00 Dinner or Supper (but more usually dinner). Small meal after 21:00 = supper.

    • @clivewakley3901
      @clivewakley3901 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also the word "supper" is not used so much these days. Most people I know frequently use "dinner" but seldom use "supper". I would use "dinner" to describe my main meal of the day (regardless of the time), and "supper" to describe a small snack (cheese and biscuits perhaps) eaten late at night (whilst watching your excellent videos)!

    Dinner is a large meal. Usually in the evening but for example we might eat Thanksgiving dinner as early as 2 pm. It's a feast so it's still dinner.
    Supper can imply a smaller evening meal. It's more common in rural southern areas. A farmer might have a big lunch and just a little soup for supper. Whereas an office worker will probably have a quick lunch out and a nice family dinner at home.
    All of this is way too much nuance for an English class. That's why we say to use Dinner in most cases.

      Where do you learn Russian?) I think your teachers use the immersion method when they speak only Russian. Many teachers think it's the best way but I think that a little bit of English could help and brings more clarity in student's understanding 😃
