    WOW - I'm so happy to have come across you on Affinities' forum. You are so clear in your tutorials and go at a pace that is not overwhelming for newbies like me. Thank you for your generosity.

    This is great information, especially when one is new to using Affinity Photo after many years of other products. Very clear direction, great pace - everything perfect!

    What a good set of tutorials you made. I would say one of the top illustrators for users of Affinity Photo.

    Hey Olivio, I would like to try the water color technique, however, when I pull the water color down into the pixel layer it acts more like a mask and masks out the original image except where the watercolor is. Additionally, the colors go B&W despite being above the B&W layer. I have repeated your steps multiple times just as in the video with the same results everytime. Is there a fix?

    thank you for great lessons. I have question-want to digitize my watercolor paintings as a clip arts, usually people are using Photoshop for this, i think affinity photo will do the same, or affinity designer? thanks in advance.

    I am a complete beginner, I have followed the video step by step to remove the background but when I deselect nothing happens. After inverting the pixel selection I have done the refine again to check it, and it is showing the correct area so I have no idea why it doesn't remove the background. Any advice would be really appreciated.

    Help! Great tutorial. However, when I drag mu first colour in my lion smudge (but above the adjustments. Not only is a still B&W but the lion goes inside the watercolour mask rather than the watercolour going inside the lion mask!!

    This was helpful, but for some reason I had to do it different after you started adding the watercolor images. I had to keep them separate from the smudge layer and then it started working. I guess there are different ways to skin cats.

    You explain things and show the steps very well. Do you do tutorials in Affinity Designer? Everyone else speeds through their tutorials so viewers really have no idea how to implement their designs. Thank you!

    I don't find the option for "painting" brushes in my drop down menu. Are they brushes you imported? If so, where can I find them?

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the water color textures are linked in the video description, if that is what you are referring to.

  • @chilichickSantaFe

    So I made my own splashes and saved most as a jpeg and not a tiff! A tiff will retain the clear background. Maybe I can salvage the jpegs.

    hi i dont have paint brushes in brush option

  • @linda1541
    @linda1541 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Cool ! I’ve never been able to figure out the smudge brush before. I didn’t know to turn up the flow. I’m not sure I understand how the flow works. Now I can try it. Thank you

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flow is basically a simulation of how much "paint" would come out of your brush at a given time of using it. This is different from opacity, even if it might look the same at times, because opacity defines how transparent that "paint" is. So a low flow brush is like a dry brush, while a low opacity brush with high flow is like a wet brush with more water than color on the brush. That said, they are still digital brushes, so they don't interact with the surface like a liquid would. There are special settings for that (like "wet edges"), but those are mostly for when you paint with colors directly.

    Thank you very much 😊

    • @OlivioSarikas
      @OlivioSarikas  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use Adobe Photoshop brushes with Affinity Photo. Just search for free photoshop smudge and pattern brushes and test to see which you like. Make sure you have a look at the brush dynamics, because i don't think Affinity Photo is importing these settings.

    At 1:25 you "deselect" and I have no idea how to do that. I was able to follow along up until that point

  • @090403created
    @090403created ปีที่แล้ว

    I followed the steps but it didn't come out like yours. Like some other comments said, the layers don't behave like yours, they simply became a mask and so there's no way to do what you did here. And you never answer this question. Waste of time.

      @@OlivioSarikas BTW... Thanks so much for all your awesome training, I've learned a lot and the technique you're teaching for a watercolor effect is right on. Ya, art really is subjective, but your lion is a Da Vinci compared to some of the crap that is called "art" these days. I plan to purchase some of your brushes etc. in the near future... :)
