    My mum uses’t to live in crossbank house, tenants got about £6.000 compensate, plus some cost towards removal, plus compensation for carpets and curtains. My mum got Notification the blocks was being demolished in October 2019, and she moved out early January 2020 after 21 years living in crossbank house…
    They was once very good flats, but after FCHO over took them from Oldham council in early 2003-04, th decline of the flats declined and FCHO allowed anyone to live in them, anti-social behaviour, misuse of drugs, vandalism, and FCHO decided it would cost to much to carry out upgrades internally, construction of the blocks was solid, but internally, because of the damage some tenants caused, and feed back from the tenant that they wasn’t happy, FCHO decided to tear down the blocks.

      @@SarahsUKGraveyard yes, my mum lives in Littlemoor house now, residents from crossbank and summervale was given priority of their own choices where they like to move to, so tenants wasn’t really forced to be put anywhere, FCHO had to tread carefully, I actually think, tenants was given about £300 removal cost,, but I know for every room there was a carpet, they got a extra £100 plus and £50 for curtains, plus a decorating grant, so some tenants was moving with over £7.000 richer… but constructionally the flats was solid, it was internal that was the demise of the flats and FCHO having contractors doing the refurbishment done cheap as possible, which added to even more problems, flats was infested with mice because when they installed the new radiators, no pipe works was covered and mice could enter the properties,
      Like in my mum place, I set mice traps, and in 1 night 5 mice was caught in traps, so this was unacceptable, we complained to FCHO and they put poison down, but I went step further and made my mum property mice free, (I was able to do it since I work repair and maintenance)…. But when the blocks got modernised I think in 2007-onwards, they did re-wiring, and they did it on the cheap and wires was put behind skirting boards corners of the ceiling, I remember I left the country for 10-11 months and came back to uk to visit, and when I went in to my mum place, and seen the improvement, I said, looks a complete eyesore.
      but many tenants was glad to see back of them, neighbour next to my mum place, was junkies and anti-social, and police would often raid the place.
      or another example, during summer, you get the unemployed or unable to work on sick, they sit outside drinking all day and they get abusive, and on one occasion, my mum was coming in to the block and some of the guys sitting out side, would give her abuse, and my mum would come in feeling distressed and on this occasion I and my brother was at my mum place and she came in and my brother risked her what was the matter, she told us and I and my brother went out to confront them, they was clueless who we was, so we remained them, little elderly lady was coming in and you shouted abuse at her, and the guys said, so what to us, and started mouthing off at us, so my brother ended up flooring one of them, police was called and ambulance, because the guy my brother hit, ended up breaking is nose, I and my brother r got police cation..
      But FCHO allowed ant-social behaviour to continue in the blocks, and even had a fire in summervale flat on 8th or 9th floor, about 5-7 years ago,, but it is a shame they have to be demolished, because they could of evicted all the tenants and re-modernised the flats. because constructionally the blocks are solid, nothing wrong with them Constructionally, I think they are building 26 houses and 62 apartments in the place, I think they will start the demolish the blocks after Christmas, I did some drone footage of the site 2-3 days ago, and when I was flying my drone, there was no work activity at all, diggers parked up and site tidy and no workers in, and only one grab digger, which will be used to dismantle booth blocks, they won’t blow the flats up, because of the close distance to resident homes and major roads, only way them 2 blocks are coming down, is to dismantle them,

      @@SarahsUKGraveyard Struggling to find it, but a report was done basically saying that it would be cheaper to build a new civic centre rather than throwing money trying to keep the existing one going, just like Ashton did with theirs.
      All these masterplans that they trot out basically say the council need a new home.
      Civic Centre is made from concrete, nothing wrong with that as long as it`s done correctly as many Roman buildings will testify.
      Do it on the cheap and you will be lucky to get 30 years out of them.
      Up and down the country, councils were building concrete housing estates on the cheap, and they didn`t last long, sheds from B&Q last longer.

    • @SarahsUKGraveyard
      @SarahsUKGraveyard  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My thoughts are this. Yes I know the civic is a relatively young building compared to some that survive in Oldham but it's the image of oldham in my view, I've always known it to be there so I'm probably bias but I for one am sick of our town being stripped of its history. Recently a church burnt down just near the bus station at Mumps. You wouldn't even notice it but it housed several graves of the men that fell at peterloo. I want to know where those headstones are now but no one seems to know

    I just discovered your channel. Im from NY. They're similair to our projects but most of our are still standing. We have more projefs than any other city. I think there would be a crisis level housing shortage if they demolished the projects in NYC. Also depsite our projects also being run down, dirty and having all the same ctime and anti soclal issues, they at least seem structurally sturdy. The UK estates look like weak death traps that may collapse. When i lived in London one of my other freinds who was also from NY lived on Aylsbury estate, ( I stayed there at one point) his flat on the top floor. Well the whole place felt like a death trap and i still have nightmares from that elevator lol. There have been collapses of council flats in UK history so it was pretty unnerving to be in those places for a whole variety of reasons. I dont think a lot of Americans have experienced anything like living on an estate in the UK. But being from NY it was kinda similair because we have massive tower blocks everywhere too. But the ones in the UK were way more intense because they were like the Carter from New Jack city but if there were 30 tall long ass buildings connected by bridges and ramps that made every single building and floor accessible by bikes. In London im always able to escape the police. I was riding my bike on the top floor and riding across those bridges. Honestly London was a depressing place to grow up but riding my bike up there was so much fun. Theres no other experience that i could compare it too. Thats one thing ill miss about those buildings. But they basically made it a criminals paradise because you could be anywhere in those flats in seconds on a bike.

    • @SarahsUKGraveyard
      @SarahsUKGraveyard  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, agreed on the quality of the builds. Fact is that they do not build to the level of quality that they used to. I would say I've seen some shocking builds in Detroit. I stayed there with family at the time in a flat that was council or town owned. The walls were paper thin and I was told the build was a flat pack with Brick around. That's what's going on here also now. Those estates though built around the 70s were cool and sadly most are now gone. I want to come to New York in 2024 to do a video on central park as well as walk round and film all the neighbourhoods not shown in the glossy ads xx
