I want to bring back the people who have been before us who shaped our towns that we enjoy to this day. I want to bring to life those that society has forgot and ensure they are remembered and not forgotten. This channel is small and will always remain true to the main objective of sharing the stories of the people who came before us.

Foggy Oldham walk and talk Town Centre to watersheddings Via Derker Sarah's UK Graveyard
Welcome to Sarah’s UK Graveyard, I am an Oldhamer now living in Barnsley South Yorkshire England.
On this channel we explore several graveyards around the UK we also visit historical sites visit local towns and look at the interesting architecture that we find in everyday buildings whenever possible would look to link those buildings to the people that have passed the graveyards. Also I like to create things in the house I do in individual decorative ideas, I'm not scared to ever go at doing something and soon I'm going to be taking on the biggest project they have shown on the channel.
Today I dropped the car off at Nissan Oldham for a check so decided that I would walk to waterhead Oldham. There was no plan just idle chat and some sites.
If you want to contact me directly you can do so on the following e-mail
uk.graveyard@gmail.com
I am also on Facebook under Sarah Jones. Soon I think I'm going to start a channel on TikTok, but we'll have to wait and see about that one for now.
Until then please leave me a comment like and subscribe to the channel which just helps it grow we are now at 3000 subscribers which I can't actually quite believe look forward to seeing you in the next video thanks for watching everybody and see you soon Sarah

i could listen to you for hours and hours, you're from where i'm from, you think like i think, and you talk like i talk, i moved away 25yrs ago and i miss the people not so much the place, i was brought up in Lees. you are a proper Oldhamer and your mind is like a sparkler, going off in all directions at the same time, lol, just keep doing what you're doing, it's great to see all the places i used to hang around in. and you are a born communicator,
Aawww thank you so much.im glad you liked it. Yes I always go off in different directions lol xxx
Fun and quality video, as always... another cat disapeared, we don't know what is going on, my kitty never came back... it happened to 3 neighbours in 5 months ...we dropped warnings in letterboxes not to let their cats outside....
Something weird is happening there xx not right that xx
Also- I love those "Witches"-you bought Ha !-Ha!-HA!--I love them,-they'll look great at your place !!
They do ha ha I'll show it soon. Only bought the larger one in the end xxx
Thanks for the Tour Sarah-that scenery was so magical & serene--and those fantastic statues-!!--WoW !!-wish that place was near me !!-& those wonderful trees--& atmosphere--I could feel those witches,presence,-through time,--they are not going away,-any time soon !!-they are real.--
Fabulous went they xxx
I'm Having a "Fry--Up"-exactly like yours in the morning-but with "H.P"sauce because I cant get "Daddies"-All on toast !!--can you still get "Hollands-meat-puddings"--I'm an Aussie that used to live in Royton in the 70's I was "engaged "to a girl from Milnrow-her Dad owned the Pub there,-(didn't work out)--I miss Northern "Tucker"-I live in Tassie now,-& you can't even get decent "fish & chips"here-out of a bloody packet !!---at our Chippy in Royton used to get="Fish & Chips/hollands-puidding/with Curry Sauce-!!-loved it-across road from the "Junction"-Pub"-Sarah the Northern Folk were so good to me-& we never stopped laughing-I drove a van for the Old.-Hosp-& it was like being in a "Carry on movie"-I had a sore guts from laughing so much !!-I have a Sister in Newhey-& we keep in touch-Love your show because you are so Dedicated to the Towns & Cemo's,-& the history,-you do your best,-but you can't do it all--you are so "Fair-Dinkum"-in your cause-&- some times you must think "am I on my own out there"??
Aawww thanks John. There are always people like you and others that follow the channel that appreciate the history and just seeing fabulous things that people hardly notice but who ever made what ever it is thought hard about the features like a building or window. Know what I mean ? Xx
@@SarahsUKGraveyard Yes I do !!-& your eye,for spotting even the smallest-detail-Architrave--corner-stone is "Right-on the money"-you might not get it in "Tech-Terms"-but we know Exactly what you bloodywell mean !!--Also where are all these other "Organisations"that are supposed to be "Sticking-up"-for Oldham??--they seem to be "Asleep-at-the-Wheel"-??--You are like ''Athena"-fighting for the ancient Greeks--her quote was "Come on boys,-I need a hand here-!!"
Just found this when mooching, I used to work as a funeral director in Oldham for 17 years. This brings back so many memories. Used to know Oldham like the back of my hand. Subscribed 👍🏻
Aawww thanks. I bet you've loads of stories about cemeteries etc xxxx
Classic chips, egg and beans. 👍😊 I still cook proper chips in lard, none of that nonsense of frozen or air frying lark for me 😂
Aawww I do love a proper chip in lard xx
So many beautiful buildings and homes have been destroyed since the 60's in Oldham by successive governments and councils and what they have replaced it with is appalling. I remember as a kid visiting Oldham many times as my parents both were born there and it seemed to be constant demolition for over 20 years. The fact you had to point out a cobbled alley shows how unusual they have become and they used to be literally everywhere. I remember the milkman used to deliver with a horse and cart and now we dont even get milk delivered any more! Another splendid video Sarah, thank you so much for sharing x
Aawww your right. It's so rare now. Such a shame xxx xxx I remember the milkmen not on carts though they had floats xxx
I don’t remember much about Derker, but my step dad grew up around that area, we lived the other side of Oldham, down Limeside way…. :)
Ahhhhh near where I ended up before I left for Barnsley xxxx
Not being picky, you finished up in Watersheddings and not Waterhead, although, on a 19th-century map, it was called Lower Barrowshaw. Bryan Street used to be a dirt path from the bottom of Longfield Street to Lowermoor Lane, on the right-hand side as you were walking up Bryan my Uncle who was a Carter used to have a pen where he kept his horse and cart. If you had continued up Longfield you would have come to what was the Oldham Rugby League ground and Dog Racing Track. Also, you would have walked past where I was born in 1946.
Aawww brilliant history thank you. Watersheddings that's right xxx il update now xxxx
Great video. Love your videos. You have a great personality. You're like a female version of me ... I mean by the way you talk about old buildings etc. 😂 All the best from Tony (80s child 😂) from Oldham 😊👍
Aawww thanks Tony. I do love those old buildings xxxx
Jesus that place has change a lot I remember playing on Oldham edge when the army used it for tank training so much has gone .
Yes tank garage. I don't remember that but my mum does xxx
@@SarahsUKGraveyardDo you remember the little moor bath's?
Hi Sarah, I'm with you regarding the houses btw was the pub called the Wellington?
The last mark you pointed to is a benchmark, which indicates the height above sea level on an ordinance survey map.
Ahhhh thank you xxxxx
Hey Sarah great from Bradford nice
Glad you like xxxx
Wow !!-great tour Sarah !--I was last a Bradford,-50 yrs ago,--& they had some beautiful buildings then,I thought they would gone now,-But they still have some absolutely, stunning old "classic"-buildings there & good on them !!-I hope the save what they have left.--eventually,-you will go to Oldham,-in your lifetime,--& there will be absolutely, nothing left-just the sound of a bull-dozer,-crunching over rubble,--& broken sewer pipes,-ocassional old pub sign, will float to the surface,-war memorial-crunched-pop music-drift from demolished candlelight-&everythig great=crunched,-under that Council-owned.-Bull-dozer-& a huge sign saying-"Worlds-Biggest-Carpark--coming-soon"--
Absolutely spot on, I agree with everything you said here xxxx
Aww I watched billy the lyre like that film . Think one thing I know about Bradford is that famous playwright Andrea Dunbar
Oh never heard of her will look her up xx
@@SarahsUKGraveyard oh please do I watched a very interesting documentary about her once on bbc I player but sadly I think it’s taken down now
Omg she wrote rota sue and Bob too. I keep meaning to do a filming location video on that. I love that film. I'll Tek um off on one leg 😆😆😆😆😆😆
Bradford looks good need to put it on my to visit list for next year
You sure?
Definitely. Shopping there is fantastic, lots of choice I saw yesterday xxx
Sarah have you thought of doing a team up with Riaz from Bradford through the lens? apologies if you alreday have done.
Hi no, I don't know of Riaz, through the lens I'll look him up now xxxx
Fabulous buildings! Imagine, we will never build the like again!
No those days of amazing beautiful architecture are well and truly gone. That's one of the reasons I get angry when they knock another down because they will never be the like again xx
@@SarahsUKGraveyard couldnt agree with you more!!! Heart warming to share the same sentiments towards our architectural heritage, that distinguishes each town and contributes to our national character!
@STANLIZ4 😁👍👍xx
Nice walk seen more life in a cemetery .🐁🐺🐰
😆😆😆😆😆😆 it was early xx
Sunday I’n England is a bit quite to be fair
Hi Sarah x I love a good old gothic building , have you ever been to Prague, there’s a few very gothic castles to snoop round ,plus the oldest clock in the world . And a better class of pigeons that don’t shit on your head , lol 🤣
😆😆😆😆😆 no I haven't been yet but I'll defo add it to my list xxx
Just watched it again Sarah. If I have a favourite vid of yours this is it. You might say you look like an "house end" but you were a beautiful woman then, before then and always will be. Pure Sarah's UK Graveyard magic. xxx👍
Aawww thank you so much Stephen. I hope your doing ok, try and stay warm at work in these cold months x
It's a shame them years have gone 😢
Agree xxxc
Not a massive price. £150 should be the cheapest.
Then it's not going up lol xx
I want to go in the tunnel.
Make-sure the blokes "licenced"-& get a couple of quotes--That chandalier,-will have to have good-fixing to the Ceiling-Joists-&-a-Safety-chain-if its got weight--its ok to pay a lot of doe,if its done right !!-you don't want it to fall on your Mother-while sheswatching "coronation-street !!--(& no "peel-&-stick-hooks !!)
Ask delboy and rodney
😆😆😆😆😆xx
It really can depend on circumstances with chandeliers. But "how much do you want to pay?" is a big alarm bell. My sister-in-law got a quote of A$1900 to install a big chandelier in a flashy house in a suburb I could never afford to live in. Her son-in-law and I did it for A$240 but it was hard work. She owes me big time now.😁
Oh it's 16 lights and Italian glass one vintage. I'm going to weigh it today and out and advert out xx
sell the chandelier! buy some mini led lights.
Hmmm may have to xxx
Lose the chandelier 😅😉
😆😆😆😆😆 I'm pig headed I want it xx
its a 2 man job sarah and the floorboards need to come up and hes got to make a new bracket to support the weight then rewire it and supply and fix a dimmer and wire it , nowadays they want £125 to service your boiler so you see what i mean prices go up and i dont even know the guy but as they say you can always ask someone else , ask checkatrade for a price ! good luck anyway ! if you pay cheap make sure you have house insurance !
Ye thank you I will. It's not that heavy a chandelier I can pick it up one arm lol but it's not one of the plastic ones it's glass. I am going to list it for quotes take it from there 😁
@@SarahsUKGraveyard if its not that heavy then maybe the floorboards is a bit OTT and 2 men so good luck hope you get sorted !
Cheeky bleeder eh Sarah
Should try somebody else if I was you Sarah
Oh definitely Sandra 😁
I think he wanted something else if you get my drift.🐺🐁If I had been in the UK £50 job done a few beer's.👍
Bloody Nora that's a good deal lol xx
@SarahsUKGraveyard I wired a whole house 6 bedrooms Living room dining room a roof terrace and 2 bathrooms plus a garage £1500.
As an electrican that's a bloody rip off.
Thank you for clarity XXX I. Going to put it out for quotes xxx
@@SarahsUKGraveyard Rough price Sarah, Ceiling bracket for chandelier depending on weight of said object should be about 30 quid, brass dimmer switch 15 quid, installation 40 quid, the hardest part will be hanging the bracket into the joist you don't want that coming down on your head :o
@ecc84 brilliant thank you for the guidance so I'm looking 90 max give or take a fiver. Thank you xxx
@@SarahsUKGraveyard around about that 🙂
Get another quote, or 2. “How much do you want to pay” is hardly a professional approach!!
Lived down here since the age of 4 Im now 71, so many changes, so much rubbish dumped, so many people who care only for themselves, its not the council who fly tip, so dont say the council are to blame, the people are to blame.
you look lovely xx
Ta Dave xxx
4 evils....bread, rice, pasta and all grains! Stop them or drastically cut them down you'll have it all come off in u der a year easily. Eat ya fats n meats!!
Yes I believe you xxx
Hi-Sarah--a long time ago,-you Bottled--up,-some of that "Korean-kum-chi"-pickled-"cabbage-for storage,-How did that stuff turn-out-??--I get it at the Super-market--& I quiet like it-!!--you had some nice storage bottles,-you said your Mum likes it-too !
HI John, yes it was lovely but I did end up giving quite a bit to my mum's husband Simon who is so sometimes in my videos as it was a bit much for me xx are you going to make some ?
@@SarahsUKGraveyard Yes Sarah,-I bought a "Bottle-ing"-kit,-& Ive got a couple of recipes-!!-so I'll Give it a go !!
wow such progress looks fabulous
Aawww thanks. It will come together soon. Xx
Like the wall colour. Just make sure the paint covers the pattern on the wallpaper. I had a paint in a flat of mine that I covered the wallpaper with. It showed through when it dried. Took about 4 coats. I could still see it in certain bright lights. I knew it was there even if others didn’t notice 😂
I know exactly what your talking about, I could see that but two coats seems to be the key xx
Hi sarah Really like the new wall colour . Your living room will look crackin when its all finished. . Love the way you cook like me just tear the mushrooms up and chuck em in 🤣
😆😆😆😆 exactly Sandra, just asking them in xxx thanks I love the colour, I'm excited to finish it. Think I may buy that flooring this week, just get it in xxx
Isn't that marble the heatth?
Hi, no it's granite. I'm going to reuse the pieces in another DIY 😁
It would look really nice with a Victorian cast iron fireplace put in, you can get them cheap enough from salvage yards. love the change of paint colour though 😁
@@ecc84 hi, it did, I had a reproduction one the previous owner had installed. I had to remove it as I couldn't get a liner fitted for a fire, only a burner so I've had to go for the burner. I'm going to make a beautiful feature of the fireplace next year xxx
😂😂😂Kango hammer darling.💩🐣
😆😁😁xx
@@SarahsUKGraveyard Yes-a "Kango"-would be good !!-just don't end up "Half-way-to-China'--With it !!
Everyone, I cut the video without finishing. I'll pick the rest up in the next video. Sorry about that xxx
Great video. I have been to Pendle, but not on the sculpture trail. There is a legend that Matthew Hopkins was in a village, and they eventually got fed up with him, so they put him to the witch's test by throwing him in the river. He floated, so they hanged him. Whitby on Goth weekend, where we went, is also a good place to go. Where else can you see batman and Catwoman, Wednesday from the Addams Family, Dracula, and a werewolf, all walking down the same street. xx
Aawww that's amazing, I love a good gothic day out. I will be doing Whitby soon. Think I'll do a stop over xxx
@@SarahsUKGraveyard The remarkable thing is that despite the town heaving with goths and people dressed up in all sorts of gear, you never see any police. They don't seem to be needed.
@paulfryer1099 teams when I used to go around in punk and goth circles in the 90s there wasn't any trouble, everyone was just happy to get on, glad it's still the same xx
Hi Paul,--are you any relation to Ronnie-Fryer,-that used to live in Lime-Grove Royton,-in the 70's--he was a real good mate of mine !!
Only you would go on camera with no makeup and their hair piled on top of their head. I think you must feel quite liberated. I need to do my hair and makeup before I go to the corner shop. I remember the RAF wives going to the shop in their PJs and dressing gowns. I couldn't believe my eyes. I thought to myself I would never sink that low and it has stuck with me. I am blonde with green eyes so I need some makeup to look alive. Even have blonde eyelashes. My walls are very boring, yasmine white, but the artwork is very rich with a lot of gold. Take care. Wendy
HI Wendy, your house sounds amazing. You know, I just thought, this is me and how I look, I can scrub up too and thought sod it, no one wakes up looking fabulous and I try to just be me. I'm not into manufactured images of perfect lives and looks. Know what I mean ? Xx
Can't beat a ginger pig
