- Gary Matsuoka is the owner of Laguna Hills Nursery, and he's been gardening in Southern California for decades now. In this video, he gives us a brief tour of his nursery, and shows us his excellent fruit trees and other plants. Gary's ideas apply to all plant growing in all areas of the world, because he encourages people to use soil that all plants have been growing in for millions of years. In this tour, he continues to share vital knowledge on growing plants and trees the right way.

I Googled the California rains of 1865…….“The event dumped an equivalent of 10 feet (3.0 m) of water in California, in the form of rain and snow, over a period of 43 days”

Thank you for doing these videos . I watch Gary all the time and lately yours . I had a theory relating to the California flood of 1862 .. Have you seen the old maps showing California being an island ? It could be possible that there were those type of rain events over 400 years ago that made the cartographers or map makers believe that California was an island . When in actuality it was flooded from the N central valley to San Diego ? As the Ventura river bed sediments show as Gary mentioned !
I’ve seen those maps yes. Must’ve been an incredible sight to see the San Joaquin valley flooded. Mind blowing!
That is an interesting theory about California, at one time, being an island. I heard that during the 1860's flood, it was possible to travel by rowboat from where Santa Ana now stands, all the way to the coast.
@@brianmitson8032 i looked at the images on the 1862 California flood and it gave estimate flooded feet totals . They were almost connected for hundreds of miles . That gave me the idea if it rained and flooded like that 400 to 500 years ago when the first European settlers mapped California , they could have thought it was an island ? Just a thought . I was a geography major at CSULB in 1980 and still find it interesting . Now i garden now im retired and 65

@@rockers7889 There were rumors ( probably without merit) about the remains of a half-buried Spanish galleon being spotted in the desert back in the mid-nineteeth century in the area south of what is today the Salton Sea. The finder couldn't return to the exact spot in the vast desert. You can still see the old water line, high up on the hillsides in Anza Borrego State Park.
