They treated her like a guinea pig and tried to prove she could be taught and become normal by forcing her to study for hours at a time. They just wanted money "for research" but when the funds stopped she was given back to her parents for the rest of her life. Very sad and disturbing story, but it's also a good one!
I remember hearing she was adopted by a lady that was a mental health therapist. She would work with her to do simple tasks. Genie was progressing. Everything was great. And then the government (I guess) stepped in, took Genie and told the lady she could no longer contact her. I don't remember if she was to her mom or a mental home.
One of the most tragic parts about the little girl named Jeanie is that once she had been discovered there was some wonderful people from social services, doctors, & therapists who truly loved her, and were willing to take on whatever challenges that would come with a little girl who had been severely neglected, and abused but because of all the stupid bureaucracy the powers that be wouldn't let the people who loved her and wanted what was best for her adopt her. It was so horrible!
Mayhem also took a picture of the dead body the band member, and used it as an album cover. The guy on the cover killed himself with a shotgun after slicing his wrist with a knife. His suicide note said "Excuse all the blood, cheers"

I’d have left the band as well. There is a line between fascination and morbidity and doing something inhumane and immoral like capitalizing off of your presumed friends suicide. I mean a murderer would be more trust worthy and have more honor to their name than that idiot.

It's about the black metal scene and there is the whole story of Mayhem and alot of others, also the court case against Judas Priest, when that guy killed himself, bc there was a hidden message in their album -backwards.. Great book, a lot of pics, it's grim, brutal.. Just how I like it :)

Current hard drugs were once over the counter medicine. The simple fact is as long as humans have existed so have searches for cures. Beliefs held in history albeit awful were normal. However humans eventually realized it was not the case. In order to understand one aspect of one anchient civilization you must understand most if not all of their culture.

i was on my dad’s computer once, looking through wikipedia. keep in mind, i was young, around 7-8. for some reason, i had taken an interest in biology. mainly learning about leprosy. i found the disease grotesque and just sad, but i still was curious. after reading about leprosy on wikipedia, and not even comprehending what it said, i clicked on another page. there was a black & white image, with a heavily distorted but all around terrifying face. the person was starting at me, smiling. i quickly clicked off and had a hard time sleeping. i don’t know if a troll got a hold of editing access to the page or something, but i do know it was terrifying & definitely not fit to be on an informational site.
the one with the Twins was honestly just depressing. They weren’t so much creepy as it was just a case of failure and neglect from the justice system /mental health system and the school systems to adequately prevent bullying and mistreatment.

The Genie case is actually not that unknown, we studied it in the first year phonetics class at college regarding the brains ability to learn language in later years of life. Maybe it's not as creepy for me because I got exposed to it in a different way but it's still so so sad...
I love that the Band Mayhem is on here! I have been a fan of the band for many years. I will say that their earlier years were very crazy. These days, they are a little more tame and one of the greatest Black Metal bands of all time.

When my mother and I moved states, we lived with a man who had FOP or Stone Man Syndrome and it isn't creepy or horrific - it's just sad. That poor little girl-Genie-after being freed from her room-prison (and the lights were never on, either), ended up being a research subject for years, and the social workers who first “saved” her eventually abandoned her. This little girl was treated terribly, even by those who were supposed to help her. Last I read about her, she was in a facility for disabled adults. So sad.
No, no, no. The social workers & several others on this case attempted to adopt her! They all tried several times & were stopped each time. Eventually they were taken off her case completely & were threatened with loss of employment by higher ups if they continued to involve themselves. They did not abandoned her. Their hearts were in the right places. However, they all likely had spouses, kids even, homes to pay for. They had to put their families first.
Mayhem thing was alot darker than Matt told us. He (the band member) also take a picture of the body and use it in their next record. And what I heard he also take pieces of vocalist skull and made a necklace out of them.
There's more to the mellified man. In ancient China, there's a section within a medicinal book that talks about using human as medicine. Every part of the human has certain properties. The book teaches how to select and harvest body parts, from different human, to attain certain medicinal property. The book also teaches how to prepare these parts to consume it. The practice was a tradition from thousands of years ago, where human sacrifices were a norm in daily activities. That includes building of new roads and bridges.

Just as a bit of extra info about mayhem, after dead committed suicide, drummer hellhammer made a necklace out of pieces of his skull and guitarist euronymous partially cooked and ate his brain and also mailed out pieces of his skull to others, plus, in 1993, euronymous was murdered by the band's bassist count grishnackh

I love that the Band Mayhem is on here! I have been a fan of the band for many years. I will say that their earlier years were very crazy. These days, they are a little more tame and one of the greatest Black Metal bands of all time.

It was more than a suicide note with Mayhem. Dead shot himself in the head with a shotgun and the bandmate took a photo of his mutilated body and used it as their next album cover. There's a documentary all about these guys but I can't remember the name of it lol it was on Netflix, not sure if it's still there.
Mustard Tiger um he actually slit his wrists, slit his throat, then shot himself in the head. In the note he also said which is kinda funny but also sad asf, “I’m sorry about the blood”😢
The documentary was called "Until The Light Takes Us", and the bandmate, Euronymous, took the photo of Dead's corpse that is on "Dawn of the Black Hearts."
When my mother and I moved states, we lived with a man who had FOP or Stone Man Syndrome and it isn't creepy or horrific - it's just sad.
However, he's well into his forties and some are unfortunate to pass away in their thirties or late twenties depending on how they move around and where the biggest risks are in their home..

That poor little girl-Genie-after being freed from her room-prison (and the lights were never on, either), ended up being a research subject for years, and the social workers who first “saved” her eventually abandoned her. This little girl was treated terribly, even by those who were supposed to help her. Last I read about her, she was in a facility for disabled adults. So sad.

No, no, no. The social workers & several others on this case attempted to adopt her! They all tried several times & were stopped each time. Eventually they were taken off her case completely & were threatened with loss of employment by higher ups if they continued to involve themselves. They did not abandoned her. Their hearts were in the right places. However, they all likely had spouses, kids even, homes to pay for. They had to put their families first.
