Just say you don't understand and ask for an explanation instead of trying to belittle someone else's opinions. He had nightmares of this song and mentions that in one of their first meetings, we know this. The fact that he went home and learned the song shows that he was already beginning to face his fears and come out of his shell even after the little time they had known eachother and spent together. He learned it for multiple reasons to me. One, to face his fears and the fact that he used to actually have nightmares of the song. Two, because it's a song that first played in the bar on their first date, so it's romantic for the both of them that he would even go through the trouble of learning a whole song just because they both knew it played on their first date. Totally unexpected and was essentially the underlying message of this entire movie. OBSESSED with this cut. I adore him so much and this song is so incredibly appropriate for the film on multiple levels. I've been listening to this on repeat for weeks.
Never thought I'd ever be the type to replay a movie scene an unhealthy number of times, but I guess this scene alone is the exception for me.. Its without a doubt this is one of the best comedy movies I've seen this year, and the casting was perfect.. The emotional performances in this scene were pure perfection from both Jennifer and Andrew, definitely now on my list of fav movies.. I love it!!!
There are so many popular songs out there that if you just slow them down, they become so much more meaningful and emotional. It's like the scene later in the movie when he gulps down his wine and his father says "savor it son, savor it" Slow down the music and savor it. Slow down your life and savor it.
This scene makes the movie for me. Andrew’s character is phenomenal singing this song. He reminds me of pets sounds Brian Wilson he absolutely crushes this song with the grace of a legend and Jennifer’s acting in this scene shows why she’s so talented. She conveys so much emotion with her eyes. Love astonishment guilt because she knows that in this moment she loves andrew’s character she’s astonished by his talent but she also knows she lied to him and she feels bad about it. It’s absolutely a masterclass of acting and singing in one scene. This scene is THE BEST scene in the entire movie.
I remember watching this movie during a long flight....this scene literally gave me goosebumps ❤ the expressions both of them have...the sudden realisation of the depth he has in her face ....his transition from a shy introverted boy to an expressive talented pianist and how well the lyrics synced with the entire movie ....this scene is actually a masterpiece 😍
I was bored last night and looking for something to watch on Netflix and I came across this movie and I started not to watch it figuring it's for the young folks but I went ahead and watched it anyway. It turned out to be a great movie and this scene was so chill and awesome at the same time. I'm sure Hall & Oates would be proud of his rendition...very well performed. 🎹🙂👍
I love the dynamic this song brings into the air. The lyrics suit them so well. With that beautiful voice and JLaw’s amazing acting, this scene is breathtakingly romantic.
Some renditions of songs make you realize just how amazing they are. I probably heard this song thousands of times growing up but this version is my favorite.
I felt the same, the original is ok but this version has become one of my favourites, wonder if hall and oates have ever played this song as a ballad 🤔 Can’t imagine they’d do any better than this though, Andrew nailed it! Was curious if it was actually him playing the piano, guess it is bc I watched him do a cover of an Elton John tune, talented dude to be sure!
Daryl Hall had a web series called Live from Daryl’s House where he jammed with all types of musicians. He sang his hits in various genres and tempos, and the show made me have even more respect for him as a musician. One favorite episode was Rob Thomas from Matchbox Twenty singing “Kiss on My List” as a slowed-down love song. Wonderful. Testament to what great songwriters Hall and Oates were.
Ok so I will be honest, I thought because it being a comedy, it would start and he would suck. What instead happened is I watched one of the most surprisingly powerful and emotional scenes I've ever seen. When he hammers in the notes, it is so intense. Well done with this scene.
Two incredible actors. Jlaw's nervous gulp and especially her little look off to the side, like eyes are on her, like she's been revealed and for the very first time in a very long time, she feels just a smidge abashed.
What a genius song choice and emotionally palpable and gorgeous arrangement...this scene was perfection. I've watched this over and over. I really liked the movie too, but this song...
And at the same time she was becoming less confident, second guessing her own actions and the effect they were having on him. Idk I haven’t seen the movie, but that’s what I got from it. Great acting and writing!
I just watched this last night. Shocking thoughtful and funny. The first half has some great comedy. Then pulls a switcharoo and tugs on your feel strings. It was way better than I expected.
This scene is so vital to the movie and is enacted in sm depth because not only does he remember the song they talked about on their first date, but it is also the song that he mentions gave him nightmares when he was a kid. This scene metaphorically and realistically represents him overcoming that nightmare and also his fear of playing in public. Essentially getting a little more out there, which is so sweet and admirable. Such a great movie. 🥲
This scene completely surprised me, he's so good! I was thinking he should pick up music instead of going to princeton. That's not to mention the emotion conveyed between them. Excellent.
this movie was everything I was never expecting it to be and to make me feel, jlaw again bringing power, I just feel like the movie revolves around this song. What is completely mind blowing
Love the nervous looks over the shoulder, if that doesn’t scream anyone who has wanted to perform without the confidence… I don’t know what would. I feel that one

I was stunned to find myself teary eyed after this scene. It’s been a while since a scene in a teen movie made me feel this way.
It didn’t only elevated the song, it sent it through the roof.
I totally was blow away by how vulnerable this song was, this version really hits differently.
She'll only come out at night
The lean and hungry type
Nothing is new
I've seen her here before
Watching and waiting
Ooh, she's sitting with you
But her eyes are on the door
So many have paid to see
What you think you're getting for free
The woman is wild
A she-cat tamed by the purr of a jaguar
Money's the matter
If you're in it for love
You ain't gonna get too far
(Oh, here she comes)
Watch out, boy, she'll chew you up
(Oh, here she comes)
She's a maneater
(Oh, here she comes)
Watch out, boy, she'll chew you up
(Oh, here she comes)
She's a maneater
I wouldn't if I were you
I know what she can do
She's deadly, man
She could really rip your world apart
Mind over matter
Ooh, the beauty is there
But a beast is in the heart
(Oh, here she comes)
Watch out, boy, she'll chew you up
(Oh, here she comes)
She's a maneater
(Oh, here she comes)
Watch out, boy, she'll chew you up
(Oh, here she comes)
She's a maneater
Ooh
(Oh, here she comes) here she comes
Watch out, boy, she'll chew you up
(Whoa, here she comes) (watch out)
She's a maneater
(Oh, here she comes) (she's a maneater)
Ooh, she'll chew you up
(Oh, here she comes) here she comes
She's a maneater
(Oh, here she comes) (watch out)
She'll only come out at night, ooh
(Oh, here she comes) here she comes
She's a maneater
(Oh, here she comes) (she's a maneater)
The woman is wild, woo
(Oh, here she comes) here she comes
Watch out, boy, watch out, boy
(Oh, here she comes)
Oh, watch out, watch out, watch out, watch out
(Oh, here she comes) (watch out) yeah, yeah
She's a maneater
(Oh, here she comes) (she's a maneater)
She's watching and waiting, ooh
(Oh, here she comes)
Oh, she's a maneater
Dare I say... This version is better than the original
IT IS
They are SO different. Love them both. Can’t say I like this one more though. Original is so good
OK that's pushing it lol. Hall & Oates ate that
It has its moments
Agree 100000%
OBSESSED with this cut. I adore him so much and this song is so incredibly appropriate for the film on multiple levels. I've been listening to this on repeat for weeks.
He does such a great job too. His voice pairs so well with a piano
He did really well playing and singing. He should do more.
He does do more. He played Evan Hansen on Broadway.
Yea I enjoyed it. I always thought it was... kind of gift and curse they don't end up together in the end ah well
Yeah they kinda left us wanting more, but it sure was worth the watch
This movie was SO MUCH MORE than I thought going in. It's rare for me to be so pleasantly surprised.
There are so many popular songs out there that if you just slow them down, they become so much more meaningful and emotional. It's like the scene later in the movie when he gulps down his wine and his father says "savor it son, savor it" Slow down the music and savor it. Slow down your life and savor it.
this scene will never get old
This scene makes the movie for me. This scene is THE BEST scene in the entire movie.
i haven’t seen a scene this good in a while, absolutely incredible!
This movie was really great but this is my favorite scene.
Bringing the song back from earlier in the movie, the gesture, and he's got a nice voice.
He is a broadway star! He played Evan in Dear Evan Hansen if I remember
This scene was really wonderful one of the best movie of the year.
Bro this man killed the cover. Came back for its pure excellence.
I cried laughing like 3 times before this part. And then almost legit cried watching this scene. What a great movie.
it's that kind of scene that is already classic without even having ended
A scene like this only comes around once in decade. Just jaw-dropping. 👌
i can’t stop watching it, it’s a piece of art
I love the dynamic this song brings into the air. The lyrics suit them so well. With that beautiful voice and JLaw’s amazing acting, this scene is breathtakingly romantic.
Some renditions of songs make you realize just how amazing they are. I probably heard this song thousands of times growing up but this version is my favorite.
I felt the same, the original is ok but this version has become one of my favourites, wonder if hall and oates have ever played this song as a ballad 🤔
Can’t imagine they’d do any better than this though, Andrew nailed it!
The innocent nerd in me loves this.
A great film. A great moment.
This was such a sweet moment. I loved it
As a father of naive teenage boys this hits hard
I think this scene is kind of magic. The kind of scene we really don’t get in films anymore
this is one of the best scenes in cinema I've seen and the rendition and singing is beautiful and unexpected
Just watched this last night and its amazing. Couldn't get this song out of my head. Love the casts.
Gives me chills every time
I loved this scene.
Beautiful scene which made this movie.
One of the better covers I’ve heard in a long time
scene gave me chills thru my whole body first time seeing this. mans got them vocals
I’m in love with this rendition. I can listen to it over and over and over again.
I teared up watching this scene 😢
Fantastic comedy-drama, and that scene very moving. So great seeing Jennifer Lawrence in a decent movie, it's been 11 years. She's amazing in this.
I love how as the song went on he became more confident and started really singing and you could tell how much better he got as the song progressed.
And at the same time she was becoming less confident, second guessing her own actions and the effect they were having on him. Idk I haven’t seen the movie, but that’s what I got from it. Great acting and writing!
@mockingbird993 that's exactly what happens in the movie.
Great observation 👍
This was the moment that put the movie over the top for me, and made me go, “yeah, I need to buy the Blu-Ray of this one…”
This is excellent!
I just watched this last night. Shocking thoughtful and funny. The first half has some great comedy. Then pulls a switcharoo and tugs on your feel strings. It was way better than I expected.
Everyone talks about the bash at the beach. But this is the scene we keep replaying.
I’ve probably watched this video about ten times. Great version . Great performance 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was my favorite part of the movie!! Can’t stop playing
This is now probably my favorite scene in a movie ever. They both were amazing. ❤
He gives this song a whole different meaning and vibe by the way he sings it
This scene is so vital to the movie and is enacted in sm depth because not only does he remember the song they talked about on their first date, but it is also the song that he mentions gave him nightmares when he was a kid. This scene metaphorically and realistically represents him overcoming that nightmare and also his fear of playing in public. Essentially getting a little more out there, which is so sweet and admirable. Such a great movie. 🥲
Can’t believe i actually started rooting for them after this scene. 😃
This scene completely surprised me, he's so good! I was thinking he should pick up music instead of going to princeton. That's not to mention the emotion conveyed between them. Excellent.
He's a pretty big Broadway star already. Was the lead in Dear Evan Hanson.
this movie was everything I was never expecting it to be and to make me feel, jlaw again bringing power, I just feel like the movie revolves around this song. What is completely mind blowing
A scene that is really worth the while.
I really like the dramatic note after "you aint gonna get too far" to drive it home
I love this version 😍
Love the nervous looks over the shoulder, if that doesn’t scream anyone who has wanted to perform without the confidence… I don’t know what would. I feel that one
This movie is perfect
I love how her facial expression isn't overly done, but just so authentic, as is his along with this performance.
i did not expect that he can sing, at first i thought he’s bad at it and makes an awkward situation out of it
She was ready to cry got called out 😮
Guy's voice and performance, with how the confidence and cadence builds, had me swooning by the end.
