I'm a 75-year-old widow, hardly handy, and with limited strength in my fingers, but after repeatedly watching this video (well, watch, pause, watch, pause about 5 times!), I was able to change my 2019 Forester's fob battery all by myself! The key was finding an appropriately skinny screwdriver, which turned out to be on my husband's Swiss Army pocket knife. I'm ever so grateful to have been able to do this myself, so THANKS A MILLION, Key Fob Rob!

I found that if you leave like 25% of the emergency key in its slot and pull up while holding the bottom, the case will pop off as well! In case you don't have a screw driver laying around :)
It took longer to get the bitter-coated child-proof battery out of the package than it took to do this! Thanks for your detailed and clear expertise.

oh dear, I was expecting $100+ to get someone to replace the battery. your instructions are so perfect. now I can announce to the whole world that I woman replaced a car key battery by herself😅 it only costed $6 a pack.( keep one for spare). much appreciated. 🙏

Couldnt figure out how to get to the battery. Very helpful video. Luckily the mall was just close by. Imagine your far away from any mall and this happens.

Thx for the video. Easily replaced the battery however, when I press any of the buttons on the fob, it light is RED, not yellow. It's working because I tested the 'alarm' button. Any thoughts why light is red instead of yellow like your video states?

I have no idea how it happened but I lost a little spring that's inside. That spring thing, I learned that is what holds the key inside it. 😭

What flat trip screwdriver tool are you using? I am having a hard time prying out the battery..
I recommend doing the battery change far away from the car. Our alarm went off and I had to find my wife's fob to silence it as things were apart and the alarm was beeping.
Appreciate your efficiency. When I got the low battery message I immediately thought...is this something Subaru is going to screw me on? Like some kind of factory sealed $300 repair. Or maybe a monthly subscription to make it work?

Once i changed my subaru liberty/legacy key battery by myself but it didn’t work. I had to to take it to car key specialist and they changed it for me and the remote worked
It was likely just a bad battery that you put in.
Worked but there is a spring inside attached to something which jumped out. Horn then started beeping as soon as I put new battery in and didn’t stop until I got everything back together ! Couldn’t Subaru make this thing a little more user friendly.
