WEEKEND WOGAN 10th ANNIVERSARY SERIES - Show 19/35
11.04am, live on BBC Radio 2 on Sunday, 25 July 2010… Georgie Fame And The Blue Flames’ 1965 No.1 hit... 'Yeh Yeh'.
I think it’s fair to say that the majority of people know this song by Georgie Fame. However, personally, I was introduced to it by the 80s band Matt Bianco who had a big UK hit with it in 1985. Originally written as a Latin-soul instrumental by Rodgers Grant and Pat Patrick, and first recorded by Mongo Santamaria in 1963, it was Jon Hendricks (of the vocal group Lambert, Hendricks & Ross) who wrote the lyrics.
I first recorded my version of 'Yeh Yeh' in 2001 for my album 'Come And Get It’ (available from my website www.eliopace.com) and it was a staple of my live set for years. Enjoy the brilliant performance by the boys and girls in my ‘Weekend Wogan’ band and for those of you wondering where the mystery Hammond organ-player is, that’ll be our multi-talented trombonist, Adrian Fry, swapping his usual ‘axe' for the Hammond which was set up on the other side of the stage ready for Gretchen Peters’ band later in the show!
This should get your groove on… turn it up and shimmy away!!! 😁❤️
