I am 78 and been playing for real since i was 16. I find it very interesting to hear your stories and takes on the way things are now and also your own background stories. Also the talk about having interests outside of the bubble. That resonated with me for sure. I did not go to music school. I came up playing 5 sets a night 6 nights a week and a matinee on Saturdays. The older guys would show me and tell me what to to listen to. So the school environment that you describe did not exist. I never felt compelled to compete with the hottest player in a school. I felt compelled to get better because it put food on the table. I practiced because of earning a living and to play on the stand with the best in the world at that time. You guys are fantastic, I love ya and keep on keepin´on Music is a gift one recieves and gives. Sorry-that is some old guy stuff, but hey!
I liked the Doug Stone story! During the Covid shutdown I took some lessons from him and it was recurring reminder of how much work and learning I have overlooked and need to do! He is an awesome teacher as well as a player!
Fun to hear folks taking things in the music/sax industry into an interesting new direction! I have to admit that I thought Mr Tyler had taken over Emilio Lyon’s store, but now remembering that was called Rayburns. Also had it mixed up with The Saxophone Shop that used to be in Evanston, Ind. Looks like he’s forging a new tradition to carry on where the old legendary shops left off. Hopefully you’ll carry on some important Boston saxophone traditions like hand-formed wood-putty palm key extensions painted with metallic hot pink (or purple) fingernail polish!! ;^) And say hi to my old teacher Jerry Bergonzi.
Enjoyed immensely! To me the saxophone is the song your soul produces when feeling any emotion - I play for self enjoyment. Great to see you guys- hope to stop in BSS this weekend- visiting daughter @BU ✌️
Great ref to Tom magliozzi car talk! I sold my selmers to Emilio around 89 or 90 and started mba school at Suffolk, and tom taught a marketing class---- you guys would have LOVED his class--- best ever!! Great discussion on life balance with this podcast. Great advice and soooo true! Great to be playing again and thanks to bss for adjusting the action on my voo doo rex!!
keep up with the content. You all 3 are KEWL LOL!! Jack has amazingly dehydrated dry humor. Orthopedic Surgeon here, I get the Identity thing. Enjoying Sax after all that.
Okay this is legendary. I cannot wait to see more episodes in my notifications. I'm a saxophone player who is in college for it AND I love podcasts. This was exactly what ive always wanted. Keep it up buttercup💪😎🤘
As a current music major trying to pursue a career in jazz it’s so cool to see the inside of what goes on in music. Love Jacks takes on endorsements and vandoren slander (i’ve been hating on vandoren reeds since middle school). Love the Hang can’t wait to see what yall have planned in the future

So good. I miss car talk. So funny Jack talking about not having much life outside work, but Dave is in my feed so much I wonder if he sleeps.
