I've been playing American fiddle for 34 years and I've always wanted to learn this style. Its lively, happy and melodic. Everything you want in music.
Every once in a while I revisit these videos. Man, what a talent she is and her band fantastic. I get inspired every time I watch. I try to learn what she's playing by playing along with Natalie. I love this music and wat to learn this style.
Jig rhythm= say "bangers and sausages" over and over! Reel= say "blackendecker blackendecker" over and over! Now you know this , Dervish taught me! And yes, most Canadian roots music is Scottish influenced. Just saw NM last nite in Virginia. Fantastic show, great band, full house of thousands there to see her.
We first saw her, uhh, maybe 10 years ago at the Winnipeg Folk Festival. My wife and I had decide to go to different stages (there were six or so during the day). I was at her stage and after the show, I told my wife this was someone she had to see! At a later workshop, we both saw her and agreed - there was something very special!
What an amazing talent....I've been playing Americian fiddle for almost 30 years and I can't even come close to this style, especially the celtic jig style.
The boxes on her belt are transmiters for the amplification of her violin. other wise she would have cords plugged into the it or be playing into a mic.

Doesn't get any better than this.

A reel is 4/4 time and this is in 6/8 time if you understand music theory.
ANYBODY KNOW WHAT THE BOXES ON THE BACK OF HER BELT ARE?
Does anybody know the names of the tunes in this set?
isnt this more of a reel since it's in a duple meter?
0:13 The guitarist is checking out Natalie.

Bobbie McKenna No. Husband is also a fiddle played. Don't know the name though.
