    12:55 pre-turning your guns when turning around in a Battleship or a ship with a slow turret rotation speed is something I see far too rarely, so props to our protagonist Willy for doing something smart, which even a lot of high-tier players seem to forget!

      @Dr_V 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Not just in battleships, even some destroyers work better if you get used to do this on a regular basis. It's how I regularly get gun kills with the Shimakaze, even in tier X some people still ignore how powerful those 120mm can be at close range, chat raging gunboat captains are a real treat in top tier battles :D

    • @ainumahtar
      @ainumahtar 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It's worth doing in every ship that does not have super fast turret rotation, and even then it doesn't hurt, so 95% chance to be useful, no chance to not be beneficial = always do this.
      Shima guns are kinda trash still but the HE shells are pretty damn nice, it's got a pretty heavy broadside for a DD, since the buff they certainly deserve respect. Not that 99% of shima players realize they even have guns, but still ^^

    I'm pretty sure the "insert coin" achievement is in reference to many of the old school torpedo alley arcade cabinets like Midway games's 1969 Sea Raider, which had physical cutouts of ships on the "horizon" that you'd send a torpedo out to and blow up for points.
    Edit: I will also point out that Sea Raider had the cutouts u-turn when you successfully hit them.

      Yup, in low tiers ships are inaccurate enough to make yolo rushing BB r even some cruisers with a DD and shotgun torping them work more often than not, and especially in low tiers when people still have the "CoD atitude" most of the time, getting a kill and dying for it is seen as worth because their KD is neutral. Imo that is one of the worst things about the learning curve for DD, as around t6 that very definitively ends, and that's not even including the fact you'll mostly be seeing t8

    • @CompuTer5-15

  • @TrangleC
    @TrangleC 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I only played the game a little. I started relatively early, back when the game was still pretty new and there only were American and Japanese ships, but when you combine all the time I played, you probably get less than a week worth of actual playtime. I always tried it, played a few matches, then lost interest again and then repeated that process a few years later. My highest ranking ship was a fully upgraded Kongo battleship and it was my only tier 5, even though I technically have been playing the game since the early days.
    I am actually one of those players who watches a lot of TH-cam videos to prepare and learn as much as I can, before trying one of those games out.
    That served me well with World Of Tanks, which I played a lot more than World Of Warships. Being prepared that way enabled me to "turn green" (stats-wise) after about 6000 matches in WoT, which apparently tends to take a lot longer for most players who don't watch tutorials.
    I ultimately rage quit WoT too (more for meta game reasons, because what they were doing with the Premium tanks and with Super Heavies, which were disgustingly overpowered at the time, annoyed me too much), but I was pretty used to being the highest ranking player in most matched I played, to getting around 2000 to 3000 points of damage done and to occasionally hold my own against "Unicum" players, or ruin their match by being the one guy who doesn't walk into their traps.
    The point being that watching tutorials helped me a lot with WoT. I knew where to go with what kind of tank and what to do there, how to angle armor, how to shoot weak spots, how to utilize cover and so on, basically before I even started playing the game.
    However, I could never replicate that success with World Of Warships. I learned stuff from tutorials, like how to angle armor, what ammo to use when, how to avoid and when to expect torpedoes and stuff like that, but what I never really was able to figure out through tutorials was how to read a map and where to go.
    The maps largely just remained seemingly chaotic collections of islands and whenever I thought I knew where to go with a battleship, cruiser or destroyer, the next game on the same map always proved wrong what I thought I had just learned.
    It all just seemed so random and totally dependent on luck whether the path you chose at the beginning would turn out advantageous or not.
    Of course there is some randomness in WoT too, but nowhere near as bad, in my experience. When it turned out that the enemy heavies for example wouldn't meet my heavy at the usual chokepoint, I could use that fact to my advantage my making a push into their "hinterland". When I tried similar things in WoWS with a battleship, it only resulted in an uneven one on one fight with some invisible destroyer and me frantically dodging his torpedoes the whole match, not contributing anything to the team effort.
    Maybe that is an effect of the fact that there is a stronger "rock-paper-scissors" mechanic going on in WoWS. When you are in a one on one fight between a heavy tank and a light tank in WoT, there is still things both sides can do, usually and it comes down more on the individual skills of the players. One rarely is totally helpless in WoT, the same way you can be in WoWS.
    However, I wish there were more WoWS tutorials that tell noobs about the maps and what to do with what type of ship on what map and so on. That is a pretty common thing for WoT, but seemingly impossible to find in WoWS tutorials.

      @vtr0104 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Islands are pretty much useful whatever ship you're in, you just need to think where the other Team are coming from so you won't put yourself in a position where you're flanked.
      Destroyers can use islands to hide and torpedo ships through narrow channels.
      Cruisers with good ballistics (arc-firing guns) can use islands to pepper you with HE until you burn to death.
      Battleships can use them to enhance their own resilience and provide a kind of area denial, as long as they have some idea on where an enemy might be coming from and what type they are (if you know a destroyer is heading for you, it's likely they'll be able to torpedo you the second they come around an island and your guns will just over-pen them at close range).
      What should actually happen is that everyone should stick together and concentrate target fire, moving as a squadron. Too often people think they can lone-wolf the game and be a hero, but no actual military engagement ever works like that. Real navies use squadrons for surface ships, tanks operate in units and infantry tries to stick to some kind of cohesion even when they have to flank a position.
      There's also a lot of hunger for kills, with people dashing off at the start of a game even when most times all you need to do is defend the base and wait for the enemy team to mess up.... I've been going through the Tiers as best I can, I'm up to 6 on the Batleships for the US, 5 for the Cruisers and 4 for the Destroyers. The DDs seem the most difficult to play, because your main role is Spotting for the Team and capping Points, so you end up getting shot at by everyone. Cruisers are positional tools, you move from island to island and try to set as many fires as you can to anything in range. Battleships are good for long-range defending and occasional pushes, if you have good backup.
      What most folks do in BBs though is suicide themselves by pushing into areas thinking their health-pool will keep them safe, but unless you're in some German BB with all points put into Secondary Battery skills, you'll be taken out fast by concentrated fire and just end up giving the other Team an advantage.
      For CVs, I have no idea, unfortunately. I don't intend to play them because the play style is too different. It's almost like playing an RTS, with the Carrier being your base and the planes being finite squads of units that you send out. I guess some folks like that, but I prefer moving around and having to think where my turrets should be pointing next. The sound design is also pretty good in the game and it feels satisfying to fire at something and hear the guns booming.
      One thing to not get upset over is the firing RNG. A lot of times it'll seem like you're hitting a target and instead you get splashes around it or ricochets or whatever. It's not like WoT where you have your gun, line up your shot and make it count. On a BB, you'll fire 10 guns and get 2-3 Hits at long range, and it doesn't get better until Tier 8, from what I've seen. It's not even unrealistic. Records of battles even as close as WWII note hundreds of shells fired with only a couple of dozen hits, so in a way we're even getting too much accuracy.... If you can, try to set up shots to fire at the center of ships, as it increases your odds at scoring Citadel hits, or maybe at the bottom of turrets to try and detonate a magazine. Plunging fire will always have better chances at this than level fire, so whenever possible use aircraft spotting to land good shots.
      Since you played WoT, you probably already know about leading your shots, just remember that the targeting is very different between regular binocular sighting and aircraft spotting (the regular view will let you align the guns far better by setting them up to hit the waterline and in a particular ship area, whereas Spotting view is more of just trying to guess where a ship is heading to and firing far enough ahead of it to land shells on top of the superstructure or turrets).

    I always hoped to get onto Jingles' show. I didn't play much of WoWs before giving up entirely, but I did have one battle at tier 3 against AI's where I got high caliber, kraken unleashed and all the usual Jingles medals. It wasn't a replay worth watching because of the impressive gameplay (they were bots) but I thought it would be a perfect case in point about how someone who watched all of Jingles' instructional videos could replicate success if they used them as a template for how to play. And this replay featured EVERYTHING: proper ammo selection, angling against higher caliber guns, torpedo dodging and target selection. It's not long enough for a full video, but it would (I think) make a perfect introductory segment to someone else's amazing game.

    Paul this is the main problem with WoT and WoWS at the moment. Wargaming aren't really encouraging much sense of community - aside from poor tutorials which don't teach you tactics, there's no proper resource for T3-4-5 players to gain valuable insight into how to play effectively apart from just watching more experienced players, either in-battle or on YT. You've got the forums where you get absolutely flamed for even bothering to ask noobie questions, and if you ask for tips in the in-game chat, invariably you end up getting slated in there. I try to give people help when I play T4 games because that's far more rewarding than straight seal-clubbing.

    Jingles, I think your videos are great, and you (along with some others like Notser and Zoup) have helped me be slightly less potato in my playing of this game. One comment, though - you do repeat yourself an awful lot in certain videos. The line about "I wouldn't expect a low tier player to know..." must have been repeated 7-8 times in this video - whilst it's clearly the point you're trying to make, there's no need to reiterate it *every time* an error is made. Just a thought :)

      He wasn't the only one. I saw flags and camos on some of the enemy ships... so they aren't new. They might not be long term veterans, but their accounts have at least some experience on them. The CV rework pushed a lot of players, especially DD players, down into the lower tiers. It's interesting down there now. You can have the usual noob window licking in one match, and then a brutal cutthroat high skill intense game the next.

And my first games in pretty much every team game I don't look at chat. Just because I am more focused on the controls, what to do, where to go. I ain't got time to read the chat. I suspect neither did the first casualties in this game.

      It's smart if the DD doesn't fire and stays undetected and the Myogi knows how to use smoke (ie. understands detectability bloom). But it's rare for even 'experienced' players to get all that right.

    There are a lot of experienced players down in the lower tiers these days. A lot of matches come down to the distribution of veterans, and that makes them very lopsided roll overs. In this match it's clear that the red team had experienced players and green had a bunch of new players. Willy played really, really well, though and was able to carry with some luck thrown in.

    Some of the smoking might have been for their team mates to give them cover, sadly smoke doesn't work like that at such short ranges. In the case of ram at end, it's completely understandable if someone doesn't catch that in the heat of battle even at higher tier. Unless you got team mates who point it out.

I'm always learning though seen some crazy maneuvers and tactics from Flambass / in the middle of a video he puts up / same as you do / he shows and says how x y z might go wrong and where to aim / tactics and strategy.... a set of a mini series on how to DD / CC and BB plus CV.... would be fun to watch, turning a negative experience to a better one... plus if the same newbie players to the pro's can share then show from a "bad match" to a "ace match" this would surely improve things, defo including teamwork :) I like to share smoke with a cruiser / if he or she can back up my DD while I go to cap, thanks again

    04:50 - You might be forgiven for thinking that the WoT or WoW NA servers are entirely 'English-speaking' servers... and you'd be wrong.
    In the Americas, with the exception of Murica and Canada, from the US/Mexico border south, virtually everyone speaks Spanish (with a little Brazilian Portuguese thrown into the mix). Then there are the SE Asians (not just the ANZACs) who often regularly log onto the NA server as well. So issuing such a suggestion at mid tiers (as Willy55 did), is as likely to be understood as it might be on the EU server (though many Europeans are likely to be more bilingual than North Americans, notwithstanding Canada's official bilingual standing (En/Fr) and Murica's very large Spanish speaking minority.
    Just sayin'
