It was still the State Theater in the 70s. Dont know when it changed. I was raised there and unfortunately , today it is a commercial , overpopulated, yucky town. Absolutely nothing like before.
Fail! Petaluma had many old structures that were destroyed, E. Washington St. for instance, was lined with old Victorian Houses, torn down only to be replaced by fast food restaurants and crappy commercial buildings. Even now, Petaluma has the worst planning and development policies. City Hall is controlled and owned by rapacious developers. Just in the last few years it has approved over a million square feet of ugly auto-centric retail development. Developers, whom do not even live in Petaluma, have created a traffic nightmare and made millions - now our so-called "elected officials" want to tax us so they can pay for the infrastructure & mess they created. North Bay Construction (John Berella) and Basin Street Properties (the Whites) embezzled $10.5 million from the city coffers over the Theatre Sq. Project. The former City Manager Mike Beirman was in on the take. Now what? More give-aways to the developers? Someone should make a video about the real Petaluma!
Miss you Ron, morning voice from my childhood.
