This one was a looong time coming! Crazy mix, I got the levels good enough, but the mixing could use some work, and I will try to get that bass sound and make a template for the Patreon! Overall very glad with my progress towards Dilla month, and the documentary is almost done, 10000% posting it mid way through February! Check the free Patreon for weekly updates !
Will never be another one like him. As Madlib said hes an alien at that shit and its crazy how he just does it on the spot. Will forever be at the top of my producer list
There’s more to what we know them as Dilla beats! It’s a sound on its own, a unique atmosphere that cannot be recreated and then it’s the mind boggling idea that formed this together. This breakdown literally represents how deep Dilla’s sound really was. Last but not least, he made this in 94 (or close to that time!) 😮
wow, such small minimalistic parts manipulated to the extreme, creating one of my favorite most royally chilled dilla tracks. would we have ever known the source if he didnt tell us?
I feel like he got the Moog way later down the line probably close to 2000 or later. So what was he using for all his early beats on the MPC and the SP1200 ? @@Narokx
That is so fucked up. That last chop from the top waveform is in another beat of his, can’t remember the name but it has the vocals going “are you listening?”
Not sure not sure, typical beat... Yes i know - i must be a mad but nothing fancy is in this track , every one with some experiance can do this but the case is WHO will be first, sadly fact
You are entitled to your opinion, but I gotta say... this is not simple. The mix is insane, layering a lot of different elements. And the way he used the chops was super creative. I think this is one of those that looks simple when presented the way I did, but to break it down it was a nightmare, it took forever to understand what he did with this chop patter
experience alone doesn't make a good beat maker. there are plenty of producers who have been making beats for years according to the same pattern and don't evolve because they lack the ability to think outside the box. nevertheless, they are among the experienced ones. dilla was very creative in terms of his workflow, how he chooses samples, chops them, arranges them, layers them and records them. he saw and heard things that many experienced producers never get to do because they lack dilla’s extraordinary creative and musical thinking to do so. and that's exactly what sets dilla apart from most producers, even many very experienced ones, and makes him so brilliant.
I think that is a big thing that happens with these kind of breakdowns. When people display things in a way they can understand they think it's simple but if they didn't have a base to recreate this beat they would be lost asf for a long time

Can't wait! 🤎
Nah bro wtf. Like everytime I think it’s a simple beat dilla just proves me wrong LMAO
"Simple" and "Dilla" in the sentence
Never knew how his more psychodelic beats were made. Forever a genius
idk if you would count them but i think climax (girl shit) and fall in love give of pretty similar vibes
Will never be another one like him. As Madlib said hes an alien at that shit and its crazy how he just does it on the spot. Will forever be at the top of my producer list
Agreed 1000%
Dilla had that 3rd ear for real, GENIUS!
Wow I never noticed that Jamiroquai sample until now 😮😮😮 genius utter genius
The way he listen to the sample and got out of it what he did is truly special. The man's ear was different
Thank you!!!!! This is my favorite Dilla beat, that bass is godly
I'm learning the bassline and trying to do get that synth sound !
This is like the calculus of sampling/beat making. This is insane.
Wow never heard this one!!! The groove still kicking all these years later
craaazy, it is one of his most famous ones from his time with The Ummah
@@Narokx Exactly!! One of my inspirations for beat - making and production

Great one from The Ummah's days
I almost completed the melody parts but I'm stuck on arranging the drums man Dilla is legend even it's very hard to do it in modern day Daw
just loop the hihat and copy the kick and snare from there
my mind is blown
thank you 4 this
Cinda knuts duh content created buy Narok x keeps flowinout n i keep cumin back all cuza Dilla
This was a great breakdown thank you. Also what do you use to get the visuals for all the changes? It’s beautiful and looks so clean
Combination of FL and Premiere Pro
RIP DILLA ❤❤❤
Dilla was a mad scientist
Fire!!
WTF! How? His Genius is underestimated.
#RIPJayDilla
The drums were saturated that’s what gives it that dark thump
I tried a bunch of things with distortion and EQ, but the Kick was always too bright. Maybe I just didn't tweaked it the right way
@@Narokx distortion and saturation are two different things… try a plug-in like NA Lofi or softube saturation knob which is a free plug in 🔌
BRO WHAT 😭😭😭😭
this is one of my favorite beats thank you but the video should be longer
wow, such small minimalistic parts manipulated to the extreme, creating one of my favorite most royally chilled dilla tracks. would we have ever known the source if he didnt tell us?
Dilla Month baby
Lot of Dilla stuff coming this month!!
yessir@@Narokx
its like a proto-cloud rap instrumental
Is this on streaming
I wonder what he used for most of his basslines
His custom made Moog Synth, which is also in a museum next to his MPC
I feel like he got the Moog way later down the line probably close to 2000 or later. So what was he using for all his early beats on the MPC and the SP1200 ? @@Narokx
Yeah I just checked and the Minimoog he was using didn't release until 2002@@Narokx
Someday you'll do a breakdown of one of my beats
Glad to be somehow be a part of the journey! Keep pushing it
Nahh that man was an alien..
How tf do you edit these visuals ??
For breakdowns on the level of this one... Blood, sweat and a lot of tears
Please make sample: Miics - Aciid 🙏🏻
Is very hard
kanye used these drums on gone and chi city
