    "Doing the little things".
1990, I started listening to their games on 670 WMAQ from my place in north central Michigan and got hooked. John Rooney and Wayne Hagen on the call. Most nights I could get a pretty good signal. They had an insane amount of come from behind and last at bat wins that season. You'd listen and when they were losing, you took a drink and knew they'd figure it out. Seemed like every night they did.
Just grinded teams to submission. Threw strikes, caught the ball, great baserunning, moved runners along, put lots of balls in play with the old Hriniak line drive approach. Fun fun team. Very young Frank Thomas up for a stint at the end of the season as well.
Oakland was just so good at that point. The talent difference was too steep to overcome. No wild card at that point.

Underdiscussed about the last year for Comiskey Park is that the ChiSox had a helluva team that year, winning 94 games after four straight losing seasons. It was just their misfortune of being in the West (where they finished way behind Oakland) rather than the East (where neither Boston nor Toronto did as well as they did).

And it wasn't until 2.005 did the White Sox get their shining moment: a World Series title. Houston got swept.
Thank the late Luther Vandross by that time.

1990, the Chicago White Sox had a great team. What could have been? If Major League Baseball had the Wild Card Playoffs back then, the 1990 Chicago White Sox may have made some noise. Oh well! 2005 made up for this. GO WHITE SOX!

Great year . Remembered this and the July ** game , 80 anniversary . They were no hit but still won .more sweeter because over the hated new york Yankees. They played the Louis Armstrong song , "what a beautiful world " . Was great to be young .

One shining hairdo, so far as the guy setting up the video goes. I got to see a couple of Tiger games at Comiskey in '88 and '89, visits complete with pregame at McCuddy's. Have not been to Guaranteed Rate or its other named renditions.

@@bigtimeaze-azeramos9645 Actually, that was the original first line. The song initially was going to be played after the Super Bowl, hence the line. They ran out of time, though, so it never aired. Later that year, it became the March Madness tradition we know today. Not sure how SportsChannel got its hands on this recording, though.

They NEED to bring back those 87-90 jerseys (with the #'s on the pants only worn in 1987) As much as I dig the 83-86 jerseys, they've had them on Sunday's for long enough. They dont have to change the Sunday batting jerseys either, due to the fact the team kept the "batter logo" until the last day in the old park, when they changed to the current logo and jerseys. They did add the players names a few years in on the home white's which I always thought was a mistake even though the White Sox were the 1st MLB team to put names on a jersey. If I'm not mistaken, they started another HUGE trend, the black alternative jersey?
Anyway, Yea... Bring back the '87-90 uni's! 1990 was the year I really figured out baseball, and we had a good team and a crop of homegrown talent about to make their mark. It makes that particular uniform relevant. Lets switch it up!

If they just would have pumped money into rehabbing this stadium (i.e. Wrigley Field) it would have been a cool historic icon today.

adaonetube they couldn't, they tried everything they could and it was literally crumbling from the foundation there's nothing they could do. Believe me I totally agree with you but the park was completely falling apart

Dev Rose it actually wasn't falling apart. the Jews wanted a new ballpark and got a sweet deal from the state of Illinois when they threatened to move the team to Florida.

The White Sox lost their drawing card when they tore down Old Comiskey Park. Even if the Cubs go 62-100 they have the allure of Wrigley, the Sox has an even older historic stadium that they demolished. That's why the White Sox draw lousy for a team in a big city. Even with the terrible teams of the past 5 years if they were still at Comiskey they'd have a 100+ year old ballpark to be their focal point just like the Cubs did in their down years.
